The 92 Dream Team wasn't really an old squad at all.

Jordan, Barkley, Ewing, DRob, Malone, Stockton were all in their 20s. Pippen was young. Drexler just barely turned 30 (same age as DWade).

Bird was really the only one who was physically broken down.

Even Magic really, still had good knees, he just had the AIDS virus which didn't seem to interfere much with his basketball abilities.

Yeah that's the determining factor. 2012 definitely needs Howard. But the 1992 team was far from perfect. Laettner isn't even allstar worthy, bird was so injured and old that he shouldn't have played. Magic could still play but getting up there in age. But when you have a front court like that with a pippen, Jordan and drexler in their prime. It's too much. The 2012 would keep up. But the og dream team could run and play half court defense. Talent wise it's a close matchup if you replace harden and griffen with rose and Howard. I definitely would like to see a 7 game series.

Karl, Ewing, Drob and Barkley would feast on the 2012. That is their advantage. Bird was at the end, but his jumper was money. Magic was still an excelent facilitator and was near his prime. MJ for some reason wasnt shooting jumpers very good with the dreamteam, but he would be very effective on the post because he was in his prime and he would definitely bring hell to Cp3 and Dwill as a defender. Lebron and Pippen is the matchup I would like to see. Pippen was going to his 5th year and entering his prime. If he could prevent LJ from going to the basket, that would be an advantage for the 92 team. Lbj is a great passer, but Pip and Mj were the greatest help defenders ever. If the 92 play a slow games feeding the post, they win.

Where does Kobe get that they were "older" from? Jordan, Pippen, and Drexler are certainly all more athletic than he is right now and can keep up with anyone on the 12' team.
