80% of "straight" men in the gym do it for the ladies. the other 20% are gay or closet gays who like to act like their working out, but are secretly checking you out, and saving the image of you sweating in their minds so they can go home and fap at your expense.

I workout because I enjoy it and it keeps me strong and in shape. The girls are a bonus and most of them do treat you well. Guys can be d bags though, they instantly dislike you because you could whip their ass I guess.

This. It's sad how many guys think you need big muscles to attract women. I guess it's partially the media's fault for planting that bullshit into people's minds.

I stay in shape for myself. I don't work out with weights anyway, so i'm not trying to get huge muscles to impress women, I just don't want to be fat. If women are impressed by any of that, then just consider it an added bonus.

Going to the gym will help a little bit because it will improve your confidence and your health, which will help you present yourself to a woman more comfortably and confidently. But guys who think that getting ripped will instantly make women attracted to them are in for a rude awakening.

Can't say I work out just for the ladies, but to borrow a line from one of my favorite movies... at the least, working out... "it can't hurt your chances".
I mainly worked out in the beginning for sport specific reasons only. Playing soccer and basketball, I basically had to in order to keep my legs strong and to not end up looking like a twig. It's either that, or be like everyone else around me and pick up a ton of injuries at some point.
But it's hard not to notice the attention before and after I got since weightlifting.
Try this: try one of the good free online dating sites if you havent already. After getting mediocre and slightly above avg results for a long time, I finally gave in and posted a shirtless pic taken from the bathroom with my phone, the thing they tell you to NEVER do, and the difference has been night and day. My profile views skyrocketed like 200-300%. Even some of those really hot bi chicks who would never respond to my messages in the past started replying to me. It's ****ing hilarious. I'm not even that buff either, still pretty skinny. I'm more slim and cut than huge. I have a very faint 6 pack that's more like a 4 pack :oldlol: . although I do have that very defined pelvic "v" line or whatever you call it from being cut. Anyway, the point is, you're never going to convince me that it doesn't matter after my experiences. It does... and at the worst, it can't hurt you unless you are a complete social retard or overdo it way too much

lol, it's not what you think. I only go for 7-10 on those sites. what i meant by mediocre and slightly above avg results was that so many of them ignored me and never replied, which is pretty much the norm if you aren't cream of the crop although i did get lucky every once in a while. i'm really picky when it comes to who i msg and since i'm slim, fat girls are that much more repulsive to me.
but anyway. you know what made me go the shirtless route? actual legit statistics from the site itself: link (http://blog.okcupid.com/index.php/the-4-big-myths-of-profile-pictures/)
myth #3... that was enough to convince me and i definitely agree with what they say after seeing it for myself

You don't need big muscles you just need muscles. Only wierd ass girls can say they wouldn't prefer a man with some muscle on them. Like what girl in their right mind would choose this:

Agreed. Although part of my "greater good" also wants me to score some, so... :oldlol:
For the most part though, I just really wanna look my best for me. I've unconsciously built up the goal of proving that meatheads and mathematicians can coexist in one body. I also still want to play college ball and get stronger and more athletic aside from the skill portion of the game is of utmost importance too.

Is that last picture shopped? If not, far out Ronaldo is looking shredded. That's pretty much a perfect build, although the chest could be a bit bigger.
Anyway, to the question.
I initially started working out for sports. Solely for that reason, no other intentions, it didn't even cross my mind that it would somehow impact getting girls, etc. But then as you get older, you realize you have to be looking good to find a nice looking girl. When you go out to the clubs, you can be someone with no intelligence or anything to talk about, but if you look decent then you will pick up at times.
So I'd say my reasons have changed over time, since I'm no longer playing sport. At first I wanted to get huge, and just be ridiculously strong for sports, even getting up to 240+lbs for rugby, but now, I'm more about bodybuilding than putting on mass and strictly moving as much weight as possible. Saying that though, I do try and be as strong as I can at my weight which is why I perform all my compound movements explosively.
Though now, I do want to be trimmer, leaner, etc, because most girls like it. And so do I. Carry less weight, don't look ridiculously big, and it's easier on the budget and joints.

Yea Ronaldo is shredded now. Definitely one of the most jacked Soccer players. He sort of started to get ripped before he left Man U.
Yea that's true about the club thing... not that I go to clubs really but it's only natural for people to want the best looking people. It's not only ingrained in our society, it's ingrained in our DNA to find the most attractive mate therefore passing on the best genes. Unfortunately you can't just take your shirt off everywhere cus if you aren't the best looking guy above the shoulders, sometimes it's not so obvious that you are ripped unless your shirt is off.
I was the same as you, at first, I just wanted to get huge. I got up to like 200 pounds and was benching over 300, Military pressing over 150, squatting close to 400... kind of an animal for a guy who wasn't doing it for sports. But at 200, I was like borderline fat and I was kidding myself that I wasn't. Like my arms were shredded but if my pecs weren't so big i probably would have had an obvious gut. I'm about 5'10/5'11 and I just wanted to be like an NFL running back lol so my goal was like 210... but tho I was training hard I wasn't training like an NFL player or eating like one so I was never going to be a lean 210 pounds.
I have since changed my goals like you tho. Now, I'm like 165 and not worried about putting on muscle, just having some to make myself look good and it does help for sports. Core/leg strength and balance are where it's at for sports anyway... upper body is mostly for show but dang it looks good when you are shredded up top but actually have some size rather than just being a shredded skinnier guy. But yes, 165 feels much better on the joints too and when I start playing basketball again, I had a 34 inch vert at like 195 pounds... at 165 I could have like a 36 or 37" vert (that's running btw) and that might just be enough for my short armed ass to dunk lol

Swaggin.
I'm aiming for your former.
ON a subconscious level I think all of us try to impress ladies.. even the pursuit of practically any hobby except for things like WoW lol..
But my sole motivation for working out has always come from being a huge NBA fan and DBZ fan and seeing the limits of the human body (plus my major in college is physiology and neurobiology) and to attain that p.o.w.e.r.

Yeah I knew the guy was ripped, but he's seriously stepped it up. Looks good there. That must be really recent since his chest looks quite a bit bigger. Still not big enough in my opinion, though obviously he doesn't want to get any bigger for soccer and has different goals.
Yeah, I've completely changed the way I dress now when I go out to clubs. :oldlol:
Before it was somewhat fitting but comfortable clothes, that did look good, but didn't really show too much off. Now, completely different. If I wear a dress shirt, it's tight so the girls can see the chest, it hugs around the biceps, and that when you pull back slightly on the shoulders it gets tight. Same with pants. I've never been a fan of slim fit, but now that I bought a pair... It's been great. Girls really dig it.
There's also the ego thing with me though, which I'm sure you went through when you dropped all that weight. Your numbers start to go down, and you're torn whether to go back up to that weight.
I've slowly worked my way up to the same bench numbers that I had at 240lbs as I do now at 215lbs. My squat and deadlift have actually gone up as well. I actually don't mind being 215lbs now since I naturally have a pretty wide back and people usually guess I'm at 235lbs. So it's nice to know I look 20lbs heavier than I am.

I work out for life.
Same way you don't go a day without eating or sleeping, i try to do the same with working out.
Pros: you look good, you feel good, your confidence goes up,you gain strength, its healthy, ladies are attracted, you feel accomplished after a work out, play sports more efficient and aerodynamic, better endurance, better stamina, people respect you automatically unless your a d-bag,people may get intimidated,etc...
Cons; Hard work (but everything in life that involves hard work is worth it),dedication, consumes a bit of your time, if you work out your chest for a while and stop for a while you'll develop man tits, you could possibly damage your joints, you have to stick to a strict diet ,etc...
Pros definitely outweigh the cons though.
I hope i motivated someone with this post.

Yeah, I've changed my routine outside of my compound lifts (bench, squat, deadlift, etc).
On stuff like bicep curls, cable cross, tricep pulldowns, etc (anything outside of strength movements), I've dropped the weight a fair bit, and I simply contract at the peak of the movement and stretch at the end of it, and go extremely slow.
Like I'm back to currently doing 35lbs in each arm for bicep curls, and people look at me weird because I'm a big dude and you have 170lbs guys in there doing more than me. I used to try and go as heavy as I can on all my movements, though now that I've dropped weight, everything outside my strength movements I do slow and contract, to help the muscle look bigger and stronger than it actually is.
All this because of my ego, and I actually liked how big I looked at 240lbs. Now at 215lbs, I'm looking similar since changing my method.

Funny how many people on here say it's vain and superficial to work out just to look good/impress women...
Then when there's a thread on here with a guy talking about a girl he's into, all of a sudden it's looks, looks, looks, looks. First post is always "what's she look like?". Someone posts a picture of a girl and she doesn't have a perfect body: "eh 4 outta 10 at best"..."maybe YOU like cellulite asses, but no thanks"
Can't say I've ever seen someone post a picture of an girl with a less-than-perfect body and someone says "wow she's not very sexy, but she looks like she's mentally at peace and will live longer than most hot girls".
Girls like a hot body just as much as guys like a hot body...and if they've ever told you differently, they just wanted to be nice because they didn't like YOUR body. I bet they also told you your d*ck size didn't matter either
I play alot of basketball / team basketball (weight/strength/cardio/plyometrics etc. training is obligatory).... JUST playing basketball (running/jumping all over the place) is actually not good for your looks , with all that fat burned you will also burn ALOT of muscles, so weight/strength training is extremly important unless you want to look like one of those Kenyan Marathon runners.... now i dont mind that either but having no power/strength bottlenecks your athleticism/strength capability and therefore negatively impacts your game or how good your game can become...... i do it for the love of basketball and to improve my game, having good health/body is just a bonus... and the women finding it attractive is another big bonus i guess... but there would still be all this hard work without them...

:lol @ people saying they work out for their own health. I apologize to those who eat right and work out, but I think that majority on here who ''work out for their health'' is actually swallowing ultimate shit every single day.
And if you really want to do something positive for your health eating right foods is by far the most important thing you can do. Health-wise, far more important than any work out you can think of.
It's like when I listen to my friends trying to be so smart and explaining to me how they decided to live a healthy lifestyle because they are in the gym everyday and they also run every morning. But they forget to mention that they are active smokers, they drink tons of alcohol every weekend, pointless to even start talking about their food choice.
Don't get me wrong, working out is great but if you really want to do something for your health start eating right. Read about it, experiment, devote more time into food preparation and only then you can start bragging how you are doing something positive for your health. Eating habits are the number 1. thing, which every person can infuence on when it comes to doing something for you health.
Look at it this way, every work out is a stress for your body. When you eat wrong and your body has to fight against all those toxins and sh!t your body is also in a stress so each additional stress(work out) strains your body even more. So in terms of physical condition you might be doing more harm than good.

This is all true. Every since I lost 50 pounds and don't have a gut anymore, my wife wants the sex waaay more. It's just natural and not your or anyone's fault. When she was all preggo and bloated, I didn't want the sex as much either even though she was horny as f*ck.

See, this is why I've lost weight because I eat better. I knew working out alone wasn't going to do shit. I used to eat a whole pack of Oreos in one sitting, or a whole pizza. I was a horrible binge eater.
Now though...I don't drink alcohol (never really have) I drink pop or soda maybe once or twice a month. 90% of my liquid intake during the day is water. I drink some milk here and there and I take a vitamin sup eat day. I have small snacks throughout the day (apple, orange, banana, grapes, 86% dark chocolate) and a small dinner. All of that accounts up to about 1600 calories a day.
There would be no way of me losing almost 60 pounds in 6 months if I didn't do the above.

I would actually disagree with you there. I think it's mostly about your body fat levels, assuming you aren't 10% BF and anorexic.

Yea tight fitting is probably the way I should go too. I have always been a comfort guy rather wear a Tall T and some bball shorts but nobody can see that you are in shape when you do that... They might think I'm a skinny guy because I'm not big enough around the shoulders anymore to suggest I'm not.
Well I dropped all that weight because I had to. Years of constant lifting screwed up my joints and my knee was totally fcked from doing jump training on blacktop... I felt like I had the body of an old man I couldn't do hardly any lifting without pain as I had tendonitis in my right pec (or joint pain whatever the hell is thare), right bicep, both triceps, and knee, and my left shoulder was weak. So... I had to stop working out pretty much but was able to keep some size because I was quite big before and did it all naturally. I mean sure it was cool being able to throw 225 on the bench and rep it like 16 or 17 times but it's whatever... I look in shape now and my joints are liking me alot more and when I can get my body recovered I will be much better equipped for sports in particular basketball and soccer (which are the 2 sports I play).
But yea we all have different goals and they tend to change as we age. But no matter what, getting in the gym and doing something is good. Girls like a sexy body... when are you screwing them and they look back or down and up and see a ripped body and can feel that muscle... it gets em going... just like a nice slim body (with maybe a little to grab onto) that you can throw around and dominate gets you going lol.

Working out for women should only be an added bonus, not the main reason why you do it.
I workout because I enjoy it and it keeps me strong and in shape. The girls are a bonus and most of them do treat you well. Guys can be d bags though, they instantly dislike you because you could whip their ass I guess.
This guy put it best.

My reasons for working out:
75% for self-worth
15% stress reducer
10% just in case my wife and I divorce, I don't want to be an out-of-shape dude hitting the dating scene

So you'll practically suck d*ck for message board rep, but you're somehow above working out to impress women?

This is pretty close to my reasons as well. Mainly lifted for athletic ability in HS sports (football, bball, track) and got pretty jacked. After HS I continued lifting and focused on my diet and aesthetics more. Still play in basketball leagues so it's half performance and half appearance. You don't need to be jacked to get girls obviously but it definitely helps when you're out.. especially at pool parties :oldlol:

Careful B-Low, you're going to shatter the self esteem of 95% of this board in a minute of you keep this up
P.S I'm back at the gym 4 times a week. I'd be a liar if I said a big part of it wasn't to do with getting more girls.

I think that's most guys motivation at the start. Once you've been at it for several months and you realize that girls aren't falling at your feet like you expected, the only thing that keeps you going is the desire to better yourself for yourself.

Easy to tell who the real athletes are in here vs. the bodybuilding showoffs.
I'm a single, 26 year old financial consultant. I stopped considering myself an "athlete" about 8 years ago. So yeah, I'd say bodybuilding showoff sums it up pretty nicely, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that at all.
It's like when you buy a nice, expensive car. You don't drop all that money because it's dependable and will hold up for years and years. If that's all you really wanted you'd just buy a Camry. You're buying it so people will say "damn look at his car", and anyone who says differently is just flat out lying.
I tell people all the time...There's gonna come a point in my life where I won't be able to look like this. As you age it's just not realistic after a while. So as long as I can turn some heads, I'm gonna turn some f*ckin heads and be damn proud of it. When I get to be 40 years old and people stop looking, then fine, the feeling of accomplishment you speak of can be my reward. But as somebody who was always a scrawny kid/teenager, then yeah the compliments and congratulations I get from girls is all the reward I need.
Like I said, people work hard for the money to buy a nice (but unnecessary) car and therefor feel like they've earned the right to show it off, I work damn hard to make my body look the way it does and I don't see why showing it off shouldn't be my main motivation.

Of course I work out for the ladies. Although I should add that most chicks don't give a shit what your body looks like, assuming you aren't a fatty or skinnier than them. They care about your face, confidence, and wallet.
Maybe it's just me but lifting actually gives me confidence. :confusedshrug:
Lifting makes me feel better which gives me more confidence which translate over to girls. It's a domino effect for me.
I originally started lifting for HS sports and I didn't really like it then but when my high school athletic days were over I eventually started lifting for myself and I personally enjoyed it and felt great about myself which is why I continue to do it.

I used to personal train for L.A fitness for 2 years. I do enjoy working out and the added benefits that goes with it. But this time round I'm not training for any particular sport like I have done in the past. This time it is a vanity reason I'm afraid. :(

Yea but you know people are thinking it. I see dudes at the gym that are in really good shape and I'm like damn good for him. I see a girl who looks good at the gym I just want to keep starin lol. Or even better, a few weeks ago I was at a pool party and me and this one girl were in way better shape than anyone else there and I know there was some attraction there because of that. Nothing ended up happening between us we just talked a bit, but later that night (after some drinking yes) she was in the bathroom with the door open and I was just looking for my phone in a room right by it and she steps out of the bathroom with her pants only like halfway up and looks at me while she pulls em up the rest of the way and I see clear as day her snatch. I was like "nice" and she just nodded her head and looked at me like she wanted to screw. This other guy had been getting at her all night tho and I was not really that drunk anymore (and she was obv. very drunk) and there were other factors that were playing a part in me not doing anything (like the fact that we at somebody's parents house ... so I just didn't go for it but would have for sure if it was a good situation.
But yea if you are in good shape, people notice, and they like it, and they want to be with other people that are in good shape.
