who do you guys think are the top 5 most consistent players of all-time?

Based off of players I've seen play I would have to say that Jordan, Lebron, Duncan, and Karl Malone are 4 of the most consistent players I have ever seen.

I'm really not sure who the 5th one would be I suppose it could go to Kobe but I would like to hear what others think especially to those fans who watched the game in the 60s, 70s, 80s, early 90s, and any NBA historians.

That is like 4-7 games for all of them, but what about the other 80+ games he plays in? He plays tremendous in the other 80+ games so yes I do believe he is one of the most consistent players ever especially from 2009-2012 (peak).

Lebron? The guy that chokes every year deep in the playoffs? :oldlol:
Without Wade or Bosh, he was almost certain to pull an encore this year.

He's probably the most consistent regular season player ever. He has gotten better virtually every season, sans 2007. But postseason? He's pretty much a wild card and has been his entire career

Smh. What percentage of his total do those games represent? Why not look at the complete data set and look at the standard deviation. I think someone posted that data for MJ, Lebron and i think Kobe on either here or realgm.

But he'd consistently get you a double-double. 811 career double-doubles. Stockton had 709. You knew what you were getting night in and night out.

Dude, StateofMind12, how many threads on LeBron have you made today? Are you bored at work or something?

The thread isn't necessarily about Lebron. I was more so curious to find out who the 5th most consistent player to ever play the game was besides the 4 players I had listed.

Jordan
Kareem
Magic
Parish
Kobe

Was Kobe more consistent than Bird and Magic to you? If so, would you mind explaining? I'm not really disagreeing, I just want to hear the case.

Dirk?
I love Dirk for what he did last year, but I am sure for some time before that, he had a reputation for choking in the playoffs as well.

I listed him because his longevity gets overlooked for the fact that he wasn't a superstar. Dude was averaging a double double at age 37.

I don't believe that was deserved, however, I wouldn't call him a consistent player. Sometimes his layups--and by layups I mean 15-foot one-legged jumpers--don't fall. Sometimes they do and he shoots like 90%.

In terms of longevity, Kobe is one of the greatest ever. 16-17 years in the league and he is still a superstar. But as far as consistency goes, he might be below Magic & Bird mainly because of his questionable shot selection. He has ALOT of bad shooting nights, Bird & Magic were more "consistent" from game to game while Kobe has played at a high level for more years.

I understand he wants to bring up LeBron, but not necessarily leave out Kobe. It just so happens Kobe's a streaky player. He has the right to make his own threads, and what he's saying is his opinion--hell, it's even a good one. I have yet to see him shitpost, but, with the exception of today, that's all you ever do. That's "contribution."

Dirk?
I wouldn't say so because it wasn't too big of a surprise when he had off-nights whereas the players being listed is or was a big deal when they had off-nights.

Dirk's performance tends to fluctuate from game to game due to being a jumpshooter. He very rarely has a bad playoff series, though, so he doesn't go through long "slumps" like some players.

Raw stats wise, Durant, Lebron and Love were pretty consistent this year.

Durant has been more consistent than Lebron and Love tho.

No one mentioned Russell yet? That guy was THE most consistent winner.

Playoffs premier scorers you can always rely on:

1. Jordan.
2. Kareem.
3-4. Hakeem and Shaq.

Duncan and Malone are worth to mention - they maybe werent THE best performers, but remarkably consistent.

The funny thing is that haters talk about Lebron's bad games but those games came all the way in the finals. So he had already got to the finals before he had bad games.

yeap, and he goes and chokes in the biggest stages.
Remember, this guy is still 1/3 in the finals. Consistent? :oldlol:

Let's remember that it was still like this last year..

Don't know how we're defining consistent but I would go with KG. Statistically from '99-'07 he was going to consistently give you ~21/11/4 without deviating too much from those numbers.

I would say...

Jordan
KAJ
Duncan
Shaq
KG

Magic would consistently get you a ton of assists every game, but his scoring would fluctuate a lot.

I chose KG becuase I remember when KG was destroying fantasy leagues. He was consistently getting monster fantasy points each and every night.

Not top-tier players, but Marcus Camby and Andre Miller have been pretty consistent. If you'd have told me 10 years ago that they'd still be useful in 2012, I would have laughed.

Mutombo and Kevin Willis played until they were in their mid-70s and were still productive.

I brought up Kobe in the first post. I just wasn't sure if he was consistent enough to be considered a top 5 most consistent player of all-time. I guess you are just upset that this is just another area that LeBron beats Kobe in.
