What is the latest word on O.J Mayo? Why are teams not jumping on him?

He's resisting. Knows he has a payday waiting in Phoenix three days from now.

Screwed as in tying up that capspace for a few days just because NOLA is being shitty about it.

They said they would match, why you gonna wait? Its literally just to mess with PHX cap situation. they are not deliberating anything

Say a team jumped in the mix and offered OJ something today, and PHX can't do squat because NOLA is jerking them around and trolling the shit outta them out of sheer disdain.

At least its not 7 day wait period like the last CBA

They're waiting to sign him because that's more money the hornets have to spend. Hornets have about $10m or so to work with now but will have closer to $4-5m to work with once we sign Gordon's offer sheet, so since they can go over the cap to sign there own players, it's wise to wait to match the offer for Gordon to go after a free agent or an amnestied player like maybe Elton Brand. They aren't trolling. It's just smart business.

With the perimeter shooting of our backcourt i don't think frye is necessary to start. plus, morris' shot has developed so much i think he fits better as a starter overall. frye was very inconsistent last season. i really hope he has developed some post moves and will try to go there more next season. i think he takes too many long jumpers and threes.

If New Orleans retains Gordon, how about we amnesty Josh Childress(gonna happen anyways) and a good chunk of that money towards signing OJ Mayo for SG and Kris Humphries for PF to give us a lineup of:

PG: Goran Dragic / Kendall Marshall / Sebastian Telfair
SG: O.J. Mayo / Michael Redd
SF: Michael Beasley / Jared Dudley / Hakim Warrick
PF: Kris Humphries / Markieff Morris
C: Marcin Gortat / Channing Frye

That wouldn't look all too bad for a team that just started rebuilding like a week and a half ago.

I'm not terribly interested in Mayo on the Suns. Not to say he wouldn't be a good fit, but I'd rather them sign someone to a one year deal and keep themselves in play for FA's next offseason. They're not going to be good, so let's get a higher draft pick, and spend money somewhere else later. Just my opinion. No more bandaids.

Lineup:
1- Dragic
2- Mayo
3- Dudley
4- Beasley
5- Gortat

Bench:
marshall, Frye, Warrick, Childress, Morris

If they can sign a young player with solid potential like Mayo at a good price right now, why gamble on next year? If we can amnesty Childress and sign Mayo for around the same amount of money per year as we'd be paying Childress during that period of time, no harm done.

If any of these players pan out, we could always try and make some trades for some good players in the future. But right now we have to remember that this is a rebuilding process and we can't simply gamble on what MIGHT happen years from now, we need to take advantage of the opportunities we have right now.

Definitely a fun team but the best part is they got some young solid pieces for the future. Dragic is probably the closest thing we have to Nash in this league(besides Nash obv) and Mayo still has some great potential.

If I was the Suns they will need to make Beasley their 6th man and get Dudley starting at SF. No way a defensive and smart player like Dudley is on the bench. They could start Beasley at the 4 as Gortat is a solid defensive player but I think the best role would be a 6th man role(30+min)

Dragic
Mayo
Dudley
Morris
Gortat
6th- Beasley
Lopez, Marshall, Frye, etc bench

THIS!

I love how this offseason is going mostly because we have lost nothing but old guys like Grant "Over The" Hill and Steve Nash, and we're not trying to sign old players to replace them with, like we have so often in the past.

This is by far the youngest the Suns have been in a LONG time. They went from being one of the oldest teams in the league for many years with Nash, Hill, Shaq, Carter, Bell, J-Rich, Marion, etc, to now going to be one of the youngest teams in the league. As a Suns fan, this really excites me.

Because you aren't going to get Mayo on a Childress contract. Mayo knows the Suns are his best chance for a payday. I just don't want them to overpay for him. I think he'd be fine here, but I'm not really sold on a long term plan of Mayo, Beasley, and Dragic. I'm tired of fringe playoff teams that get low lottery picks.

I don't think a unit with Dragic/Mayo/Beasley all starting would be too effective. Dudley has to start over Beasley or even Mayo and have one of them become the 6th man. You need balance on a squad and the 6th man should be a scorer(Beasley)

IGotACoolStory

Mayo is the better 6th man, imo. But the Suns don't have a SG to start above him.

Dudley's always been better coming off the bench. :biggums:

Dudley's 6th man status and that's always been his role on the team because he brings energy, can knock down shots and play defense.

Just because dude was forced into a starter role last leason because we had no scorers and Hill was injured doesn't mean he's a starter caliber 3.

And in the Suns style of play how's a 3 like Beasley that has size, can handle the ball, and score from anywhere on the court a bad thing :wtf:

OJ can give u offense, but he is not a very efficient player. His defense has improved greatly, but he has very poor handles. He can get his own shot, but he is much better when he doesnt try to take his man off the dribble too much. He is money when he catches and shoots or steps back after a one or two dribbles. If he can learn what shots NOT to take instead of throwing anything up, he will be a great player. Im gonna miss him, but i think the grizz are going to be a better team without him.

No they're not, New Orleans is definitely trolling, they aren't signing anybody, they're just trying to screw with Phoenix, which is pretty much par for the course when it comes to RFA situations although while New Orleans thinks they are being clever, Mayo is just chilling back and waiting for the situation to resolve itself so he can sign with the Suns.

I would take the gamble. Mayo has a lot of talent he just needs more opportunities, similar to Beasley. They could potentially realise how good they could be together on this team and live up to there potential or they could keep playing the way they are and be above average scorers. Either way it's looking good as long as you don't overpay.

I think OJ has more talent that Courtney. Courtney is definitely a very good role player, but OJ might still have something to show if he is given a starter role on another team. I would definitely go for OJ if I wanted to take a look if he has any all-star potential.

lilojmayo
07-15-2012, 11:09 AM
His market has already been set in his/agents eyes in regards to phx.

He is going to want more Beasley at 6 million. Most likely going to want more than Goran received at a little more than 8 million. Especially since they have already shown they are willing to pay Gordon 15 million.

OJ and his agent are prolly asking for either

3 year deal at 8.5 milllion

or

4 year deal at 9-10 million

If the Suns refuse to overpay hiim. Then there is no doubt he is going to go to the Chicago Bulls from what I have read and most likely sign a short term 2 year deal with them.

So he can compete for a championship while increasing his market value as a starter again. If he even comes close to reproducing his 1st/2nd year numberss as a Bull.

You can book it he gets a max deal come 2 years from now.

That is what GarPax and Rose are probably trying to sell to hiim in their "meetings" they have been having in vegas.
