View Full Version : Kobe's response to MJ!!

Just read this on twitter.

Jordan said he laughed when he heard Bryant said the 2012 USA Basketball team could beat the 1992 Dream Team. Bryant's post-game response after USA defeated Dominican Republic in Las Vegas on Thursday night: "So what, he knows I'm a bad motherf*cker. I'm not really tripping. The fact is, they have Ewing and Robinson and those big guys, it's tough. If you're asking me, 'Can you beat them one game?' Hell yeah, we can beat them in one game. You didn't ask me if we could beat them in a 7-game series. In one game, we can beat them. No question about it."

And they still have the best player on either team.

I think the matchups and the well-roundedness of the Dream Team is what will make them win, but it's not out of the question that the 2012 Team would win.

And best player on the court. And its not just size, they were dominate bigs. Ewing, Robinson and Barkley are better than the current versions of everyone on team USA except bron.

Would be tough....such great tempo guards on the dream team. Plus if they wanted to go athletic can put out more athleticl lineups than this team.

The 08 team was better than this team. This is gonna look sum win they lose a game or two. Blake getting hurt was the best thing that happened for this squad. They needed another big man.

So basically he's admitting they couldn't beat the 92 Dream Team, maybe they could win one game.

Honestly I think the '96 Dream Team and even the 2000 squad would beat this year's team.

That front court is waaaaay too soft (good thing for Team USA they still have more than enough firepower to win gold).

The real question is who would Chris Mullin guard. You know that the 92 team has to play him significant minutes because he's their only knockdown shooter from deep (not counting hunchback Larry). But Mullin wouldn't be able to keep up with even the likes of Iguodala or Westbrook.

He also subtly took a dig at MJ by making it clear that its the BIG MEN on that team that would cause problems...haha.

If any other player on the current Team USA made this comment, MJ wouldn't care enough to respond. He did so only because it came from Kobe. MJ respects Kobe's old-school attitude...in today's NBA, all the players are too afraid to speak the truth in fear of getting criticized, but Kobe doesn't give a rats ass.

What are you talking about? He did back down. He offered nothing more to why they would win, didn't refute the Dream Team being smarter, brought up the Dream Team's better big men which neither Barkley or Jordan even brought up before, and wouldn't say they would win a 7 game series after everyone implied that he was saying they were better team after his initial comments. He backpedaled. He backed down. Just cause he called himself a "bad motherf*cker" doesn't mean he didn't. And usually when anyone says "I'm not trippin about it", the opposite is usually the case.

This. I think Kobe's hurt the team's not getting more respect just by his sheer presence on it. I think he was expecting, "I don't know...I think we have the advantage inside, but you can never count out Kobe. He once dropped 81 points in a game."

The big man comment was a dig on Jordan. Which is kinda funny, because half of Kobe's reputation and reason that he's compared to Jordan is a result from playing with arguably the greatest big man ever for half of his career :oldlol:

You guys act like he has some kind of personal vendetta against him. He doesn't. Stop looking for something that just isn't there.

Well Kobe is correct in that regard, concerning the big-man comment. Each side has advantages to varying degrees on the perimeter. The most glaringly obvious and lopsided advantage for either side is interior players, in favor of the 1992 team.

Of corse they could win. Just like the Thunder can beat the Heat and the Heat can beat the Thunder. Kobe didn't say they definitely would win, but or course they could.

You did see the Dream Team documentary and realize that that game was basically thrown intentionally by Chuck Daly, right? Right?

That wasn't his question.

And I'm going on the hunch that he didn't watch the documentary.

2008 Redemption team > 1992 dream team

Nah and I don't think 08 beats the 96 team either.

They are better than 2012, though.

He respects MJ but it was a dig. And that bad mofo attitude is why MJ thinks highly of him. Imagine Kobe on those dream team scrimmages, he sure wouldn't want to play on MJ's team. He's the only bad mofo on this 2012 squad.

That's only cuz they know nothing about anything, which includes basketball. They're nothing but Kobe haters just for the sake of hating the man. They claim to be REAL basketball fans, but their irrational Kobe hate says otherwise. They've deluded themselves into believing that they can topple Kobe's legacy as long as they keep harping on ANYTHING the guy says and does. Like I said before they know nothing about anything, therefore they can't understand that their pathetic attempts to discredit Kobe's legacy, will always remain nothing more than that. The people who know better don't take anything these idiots say seriously, and with good reason.

He has talked like that to the media plenty of times before. Especially this stretch during last season. It was getting a little annoying though the Kobe fans were eating it up. I guess he was feeling defiant with people thinking that he lost a step and should step back more. Like **** you I don't care if you think I'm shooting too much.

Olympic Hype. They know what they're doing.

Jordan rarely ever takes shots at anybody since his retirement. He's actually kept somewhat of a low-profile. HE criticize LeBron for the Decision but everybody was doing it. Kobe never takes shot at Jordan or any past legends, he only rivals against the players of his generation.

They recently had the Dream Team documentary feature on NBA.com, and now the Olympics in England are right around the corner. Fans rarely watch or even care about the Olympic games because US Team is so dominant.

They're doing this to get more viewers interested in the Olympic games.

It's really annoying that people are acting like this team has no shot. The only thing that the '92 team has on the current one is size, and that's it.

LOL. They completely dominate at the PF and C spots. That's 2/5ths of the team.

And anyway, this current USA Team isn't even better than the Redeem Team. It's ridiculous to compare this team to the 1992 team.

Michael Jordan said there's no way Kobe Bryant and this year's USA Olympic basketball team could've beaten the 1992 Dream Team.

Jordan told The Associated Press Thursday that he laughed – "I absolutely laughed" – when hearing Bryant's comments that the squad training in Las Vegas could take Jordan and company.

Jordan said there's "no comparison" which team is better.

"For him to compare those two teams is not one of the smarter things he ever could have done," Jordan said prior playing in a celebrity golf tournament in Charlotte.

Jordan said the 1992 team, which included 11 future Hall of Famers and won its six Olympic games by an average of more than 43 points en route to capturing the gold medal, was a better overall team largely because of the experience it put on the floor.

"I heard Kobe say we were not athletic," said a smiling Jordan as he sat in a golf cart puffing on his cigar while waiting to tee off. "But we were smart. He said we were too old, but I was 29 and in the prime of my career. Pip (Scottie Pippen) was 26 or 27, (Charles) Barkley was 29, Patrick (Ewing) was 29 and Chris Mullin was 29. Almost everybody was still in their twenties."

Jordan's response came after Bryant told reporters in Las Vegas that this year's team could pull out a win against the Dream Team if they faced each other in their primes. Bryant said this year's team has a bunch of racehorses, players who are incredibly athletic while the Dream Team consisted mainly of players at the tail end of their careers.

Bryant's comments received immediate and sharp rebuttal from some members of the Dream Team, including Barkley.

Jordan joined in on Thursday.

"Most of us were in the prime of our careers, at a point where athleticism doesn't really matter," said Jordan, the owner of the Charlotte Bobcats. "You have to know how to play the game."

Jordan shook his head when asked why he thinks Bryant made the comments.

"I imagine he's trying to say it to legitimize his own Dream Team," Jordan said. "But to me it's not even a question what team is better."

Jordan said Bryant is certainly entitled to his opinion – even though he said it's just plain wrong.

"For him to make that comparison, it's one of those things where it creates conversation," Jordan said. "I guess we'll never know. I'd like to think that we had 11 Hall of Famers on that team and whenever they get 11 Hall of Famers you call and ask me who had the better Dream Team. Remember now, they learned from us. We didn't learn from them."

That seems fake, but if it's not then Kobe just moved up my favourites list.

LeBron
Kyrie
Kobe
Rose
Westbrook

bumping KD out of the top 5.

If that is true then Kobe has done some very interesting things this week. First of all his back and forth with Kyrie was awesome, and I love the confidence if this is true.

As for '12 beating '92 '12 has the best player, and they have a massive advantage at SF with LeBron/Durant, and an advantage at PG with Paul/Westbrook. If you play Paul/Kobe/Durant/LeBron/Chandler against '92 then you have a very good chance to win. LeBron can easily check the PF's, Durant can check Scotty, Kobe can try to slow MJ, as can Paul on old Magic, and Chandler is DPOY for a reason.

Only way 12 has a shot was if Dwight, Rose & Wade were healthy and run small.

Dwight/Chandler
Lebron/Griffin
Durant/Melo
Kobe/Wade
Paul/Rose

Good luck running with that team!

Barkley and Malone would both abuse Lebron on the block. Get real.

2012 Kobe would get absolutely ROASTED by 1992 Jordan - no contest there. He simply has no chance. This isn't 5 years ago. Magic could post up Paul with impunity.

In the Dream Team documentary on ESPN Coach K said that Chuck Daly purposely threw that game to light a fire under the Dream Team's ass and make them learn to play as a team and not believe they were invincible. The next day DT beat them by like 60.
