Difference between a pick-up game and the NBA is that there are no refs to bail you out for reaching fouls among other things. What's Kyre gonna do, contest the shot, put a hand in his face, foul Kobe....won't matter. Will it matter for Kyre's game trying to dribble the ball to the cup? For sure, + the size and weight mismatch. Kid won't survive...I'll give him some clean blow by's but that's it.

I got Kobe in a 1 on 1. Too much length for Kyrie. Kyrie's not exactly the best defender either. Give him a few more years. Someone like Rose or Westbrook would have the best chance against Kobe out of the PG's.

Kobe would win. Kobe is too experienced, more talented, taller, has more length, more size, etc.

Kyrie might just be a little bit faster, but not so much faster for it to be a factor.

Kobe wins pretty ez. Kobe 1vs1 game is pretty much flawless, especially versus a smaller guard like Kyrie.

Experience? Eh, I'm not quite sure how much that would factor in a 1 on 1. Size and the fact Kobe has a damn good low post game (maybe experience in this area is what you mean?) is a big factor. I just hope Kobe wouldnt back him down and post all majority of the game. It would be over.

It's like an unspoken truth that he's a 1v1 god.
He is. His ability to create space and get a shot off, and his ballhandling are second to none for anyone over 6'3.

Of course, he's not nearly strong enough, and not nearly good enough in the paint to be the best *ever*. Jordan was twice as strong and his hands were twice as big and twice as good (good hands are what make Rajon Rondo great in the paint; bad hands are what make Ben Wallace and Kwame Brown awful. Good hands make Wade great in the paint; Kobe merely pretty good. etc)

Maybe he doesnt beat Kobe but you got to enjoy the trash talk and challenge. Altho it kind of loses a bit of hype given he needs a damn year. But regardless if my money is on Kobe? I'll still watch. Props to Kobe for accepting altho not sure I can be surprised. Guys loves the game, and enjoy a youngster going at the old lion. Young guy with sick handles and can create his offense. Pretty nasty with the ball man. I argued briefly before the guy gave in when he said "Kyrie Irving isnt really that good of a shooter.". I hope no sophmore slump and he continues to own. I don't think the second was a travel. His hand never gets underneath the ball, so it certainly wasn't a palming violation. He didn't put both hands on the ball, so it wasn't a double dribble. Plus, those are both in slow motion, so it looks like the ball is off the ground longer than it actually was.

Not to mention there are officials out there for these scrimmages and, not only wasn't it called a travel, but the defense clearly didn't object, thinking it was a travel.

What? :oldlol:

You have to pick up your dribble to have a "pivot" foot. Hand never underneath the ball... Ball was never touched by more than one hand. No pivot foot in that scenario.

Not a travel.

Agreed. Pivot feet don't even exist when you're still dribbling. A travel would never get called here. If anything, the violation would be a carry but even that is debatable.

It's just like the stutter step that people like to do where they hesitate and step like 6 times. It's a travel. Each time the foot he is pivoting on slides it's a step.

It's just like the stutter step that people like to do where they hesitate and step like 6 times. It's a travel. Each time the foot he is pivoting on slides it's a step.
stutter step isnt travelling, as long as your still continuously dribbling u can take as many steps as u want

What? You can slide your feet from baseline to baseline if you keep your dribble alive. What are you talking about? He DIDN'T PICK UP HIS DRIBBLE. That is really all that you need to know in regards to pivoting/sliding/whatever the f#ck.

travel.

if a player dribbles the ball slowly and takes 4 quick steps before the dribble comes down. It will be called a travel.

Kyrie did the same thing but at a much faster pace.

It's illegal and I wouldn't want to use an illegal .gif of him as a highlight.

even if it's not called a travel.

that spin move is illegal and would get called for carrying/palming.

Law of physics prove that you cannot do that without carrying and palming.

You couldn't be more wrong. :oldlol:

Guy can dribble as "slowly" as he wants, as long as his hand doesn't go underneath the ball and his other hand doesn't touch it. Think about it... You could theoretically dribble the ball as high as your wingspan will allow and as long as your hand stays on top of the ball, it isn't a travel and the number of steps you are able to take while the ball is ascending/descending is inconsequential.

Really, that is what he did to start the move... Dribbled the ball much higher than is normal for him, then spun as he began initiating another dribble (all while his hand stayed on the top of the basketball).

The only way that you can call this a travel is if you can prove he either cupped the ball or his hand went underneath the ball on the spin. If that's what happened, it certainly isn't indisputable in this particular video/gif/angle.

And, do you really think that I *need* to use that as a highlight? As if he didn't have enough highlights his rookie season? Or other moves in that very video? Hell, I liked his behind the back crossover of Westbrook better anyway.

Law of physics doesn't prove anything. :oldlol:

Have you ever taken physics? Please point out the specific theorem that proves it impossible. I'll be waiting. I think you are just talking out of your @ss. And, I'm stunned you are investing so many posts into "proving" (although you have offered nothing in the way of proof) that a completely benign highlight is a travel.

illegal gif? law of physics? what in the actual fvck are you babbling about?

if anything, he finished with a jump stop. he may have palmed it but i sure as hell can't tell and my initial reaction is that he didn't. also, nba players get away with far egregious carrying calls.

You have zero clue what you are talking about. Next time you have a basketball in your hand, toss it into the ground as hard as you can and allow it to go as high as it will while keeping your hand/fingers on the top side of the basketball. Then walk forward. That isn't an illegal dribble.

In fact, you can toss it into the ground as hard as you want, let it bounce 20 feet in the air while taking several steps forward... As long as you resume the dribble when it returns to the ground in a regular manner (hand on top of the ball/no palming/just one hand), it is completely legal to do in a game... Problem is, it will get stolen immediately, so most people would never do that.

You are confusing an odd/rarely used dribble with an illegal one. Bottom line, as long as he keeps his hand on the top of the ball, doesn't touch it with his off-hand and doesn't cup the ball, the number of steps you take is of no consequence.

I can't believe I have to explain this to you... A person who frequents a basketball forum.

have you ever played basketball? or do you not know what the word carrying means?

when you hold something it is carryin it, hense having you hand under thand ball.

if your hand is on top of something you aren't carrying it.
