View Full Version : Sources: Howard will end up with Lakers

It is widely believed with front office people that the end game for Howard is the Lakers.
That point was stressed over and over to Pingalore. The sources went as far to say "follow the money," adding "The Lakers are a big market team that needs a player as global as Dwight Howard."
Pingalore's sources believe that this deal is in place and is set for announcement in the short term.

obviously he's the better player i acknowledged that b!tch, but i don't want a guy to be here if he doesn't want to be a Laker. Plus if he won't sign an extension then we basically got rid of Bynum for nothing, now we're left with NO bigs for our future. Which is why i would want to keep Bynum b/c he's more likely to sign an extension with the Lakers than Dwight, rather than taking the risk of Dwight not signing. And he's only going to get better. Obviously, if Dwight will agree to extend to the lakers, then get him by all means, but it's no point in trading for a 1 year rental.

I honestly don't understand why majority of Laker fans I read posts from here and places like ESPN don't have this mindset. Is it REALLY worth losing BYNUM, the undisputed second best C in the league over Dwight who's making it pretty damn clear Brooklyn is forever on his mind.
And he already gets heat about following Shaq's footsteps, do you REALLY think he doesn't think about how going to LA will just make the comparisons stronger? He ain't trying to follow in Shaq's shadow. So if you can't get a mutual agreement he ain't going anywhere, it ain't worth it IMO.

Dwight would make this defense respectful, nobody is getting anything in the paint & that is very important considering Nash/Kobe are old and their players will get by them once in a while. The impact Howard makes on defense is huge.

has LA made that clear? i think that's still up in the air. dwight would have to leave behind millions because of bird rights and adidas money. how does dwight make it to brooklyn now without them pulling off a monumental trade with hard to move assets? i don't think there's anything in stone here. houston seems more willing to gamble though.
if shaq's shadow is what keeps him from coming, that's honestly sort of petty. the greats should embrace that. plus, it will be completely his team when kobe drops off.
the #1 option in his prime in LA behind management that has shown it will spend money to win. if shaq is the main reason he won't come to LA, he lacks intestinal fortitude. if that's the case, the feel good story is to go to atlanta and try to win for his hometown.
the bigger factors to me are that houston seems to be willing to give up more and bynum hasn't made it clear he'd resign in orlando. hennigan is going to exhaust all avenues for the best deal as he should.

I'm going off a hunch but I don't think Lakers management is going to risk having neither, come next season. IMO, I would not want an unmotivated Dwight Howard that either: A. doesn't want to play for us or B. won't be here in the next year or two. You could take that risk or keep a growing Andrew Bynum that hasn't even reached his prime yet.

It's the point that both Shaq and Dwight have been centres on the Magic, led their team to the finals but were unable to get the job done, then jumped ship to LA. Their stories do sound awfully similar, but I really don't have much respect for Dwight if this is the real reason as to why he wants to leave. I always assumed he wanted to leave the Magic because they failed to put the correct pieces around him, and Dwight wants a championship? This can't be the reason why or else he'd be in LA by now.

I'm pretty sure Dwight has come to the realization that Brooklyn is no longer an option and that the two real contenders for him left are the Lakers and the Rockets. I don't care what anyone says about Dwight not wanting to live in Shaq's shadow, there is no way he prefers playing in Houston over LA. If he goes to Houston, I don't see the team being any different than Orlando, not to mention he is entering a stronger conference. LA offers multiple benefits that Houston does not, one of which will be that they will be title contenders for 2-3 years.

Dwight's pissed orlando traded his friends away and told him to deal with it. That's a big reason he is annoyed with the magic and he's said awhile back he wasn't happy with how players like turk were let walk and others were traded.

Yeah, one of LA's biggest problem defensively is mobility. Dwight can run the floor and play much better pick and roll defense than Bynum just by his agility. Can also run pick and roll better than Bynum could on offense because of it. Bynum has better back to the basket moves/footwork but the low post may not need to be featured as much with Nash running a more free flowing offense.

Let's get 1 thing clear, Bynum is not better than Dwight and will probably never be better than Dwight. That being said I don't blame Lakers fans for not wanting Dwight the guy does not have a championship mentality. He's shown himself to be a primadonna and more concerned with his own self gratification than winning. Really who the hell cares if Shaq played for the Lakers? The best way to shut Shaq up would be to win more rings than him and the Lakers give him an automatic 3 years of contention and after that he'll be the man on his own team with an organization that's committed to championships. Dwight needs the Lakers more than the Lakers need Dwight. They have the 2nd best center in the game, at this point Dwights merely a luxury not a necessity.
