View Full Version : Sorry, Kobe Bryant is not a top 10 player all time

PistolPete44
07-17-2012, 11:16 PM
We all know people have him at 8 because kobe has 5 rings and a couple of scoring titles. But here are a few reasons that drag him down to 11 or even lower

1. Fanbase
Kobe has the worst fanbase of all time. Kobe fans disrespect all other superstars in the game, and they hate on other Lakers players (pau, bynum..etc)
They also claim Kobe is the GOAT and attacks MJ fans.

2. Rape
Kobe Bryant sexual assault case began in the summer of 2003 when the news media reported that the sheriff's office in Eagle, Colorado had arrested NBA superstar Kobe Bryant in connection with an investigation of a sexual assault complaint filed by a 19-year-old hotel employee. ... and so on.

3. Nickname

Air, Magic, Glide, Dream, Dr., Pistol, Pearl, Glove, Microwave, Mailman, Silk, Skywalker, etc etc.
Kobe is the ONLY one who gave himself his OWN nickname: Black Mamba. The others were given their nicknames by others as signs of respect and admiration.
The nickname he gave himself is also pretty lame.

4. Hyped up since three peat.
Kobe stans, the media, and most of the people actually think Shaq stole the FMVPs from Kobe :oldlol: How pathetic
Those stans and media also rate him as the GOAT defender, which isn't true:sleeping

put KG on the Lakers with P JAX, Shaq, etc. and he'll get you more success than Kobe while Kobe misses the playoffs with the Timberwolves every single year because he is not as impactful as KG

1. Jordan
2. Wilt
3. Kareem
4. Russell
5. Magic
6. Bird
7. Shaq
8. Duncan
9. Hakeem
10. Kobe

For me Kobe only has 2 championships... but its still enough to grant him #10... Its not that those other 3 rings are worthless, but worth much less in value..... my top 10 is reserved only for leaders, team MVPs, THE MAN players/accomplishments...

It's true. I know I'm known as a Kobe hater, but Kobe went from not being in the top 10 like a year and a half ago in most people's list, to his lovers constantly saying, "Kobe a top ten player," over and over as if fact. Kobe hasn't done anything since then, getting sweaped by Dallas, shocking against the Thunder, but as you see in politics throughout history propaganda works. That's why I don't care for any top ten list, cause people are dumb and they're not experts.

Definition of propaganda http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propaganda

The same with Lary Bird. 3 years ago he was always ahead of Magic in everyone's top ten list. Everyone's, and then suddenly, can't compete with Magic, magic is ahead by like 4 spots.

lol funny how everyone except Lebron stans have him in the top 10.

Funny how people say Kobe first 3 rings don't count cause he didn't win FMVP. So using that logic.

Magic only has 3 rings.
Shaq only has 3 rings.
Duncan only has 3 rings.
Kareem only has 2 rings.
Bird only has 2 rings.

But wait, you hating ass hoes don't use that logic against anyone else... Typical haters. Can't wait for Kobe to get that 6th to see all the "hate Kobe" agenda driven threads.

I can't help but notice none of those have to do with his play on the court?

Ray Lewis, OJ simpson both charged with murder, both arguably the greatest at their positions. Jordan a gambling junkie and Mickey Mantle was a drunk. Let's exclude all those players from GOAT conversation as well too. Also if we include adultery in there might as remove every single player from the hof.

That's still technically a basketball related issue but we can argue the semantics all day long. Even without the decision it's not like Lebron hasn't come up short before, especially during big game/crunch time situations.. but w/e he just won a FMVP and i give him credit so let's not turn this into that.

So has kobe and him demanding a trade while lebron was a FA I don't know what dumbass would take either of those 2 off the court issues into account when ranking a player in a GOAT list. LeBron could kill 20 ppl and kobe could rape the state of colorado and I still wouldn't care.

1 MVP, 2 FMVPS..... Lets be honest Kob has never been the clear best player in the league, he has proved that he can't carry a bunch of average/poor role players deep into the playoffs ala Lebron.

Ignoring all the hype your boy should be deep down in the top 30.................1 of 3 in Final appearances. One of them being the biggest choke in NBA history by a superstar ever. Hype and ESPN bandwagon aside.....top 30 - Mental midget with entitlement issues. Got his first ring in a shortened NBA season, struggled in a weak ass East against the young, star-less, Pacers and an ancient Celtics. Took a young and inexperienced, also ill prepared Thunder by surprise with all of the Miami role players contributing to the success at key times. To top it off he had an All-star PF in Bosh and a Final MVP, franchise player in Wade to carry him out.

Purely based on individual accomplishments as of now... Lebron and Kobe are neck and neck..... 3MVPs and 1 FMVP versus 1 MVP and 1 FMVP.... Obviously Lebron has the superior individual stats throughout his career.

Kobe is definitely a top 10 player based on the way people traditionally rank players all-time, which is based on resume. This includes things like accolades, titles, numbers, and impact. But in terms of pure impact, he may very well be below more than 10-13+ players in history. But we don't rank players strictly on impact alone. Personally, I have him ranked #9, behind MJ/KAJ/Russell/Magic/Wilt/Bird/Shaq/Duncan.

for the most part, I would agree. He is in there with Big O, Hakeem, West, etc.
In terms of "impact alone", I would have agreed with you until he beat the Big 4 Celtics (much younger and better than this years Celtics) with just Gasol and Odom. Yes, stats were ugly (for everyone) in that series because it was such a defensive series, but that just goes to show his all around impact.

07-18-2012, 02:03 PM

Kobe stans, the media, and most of the people actually think Shaq stole the FMVPs from Kobe :oldlol: How pathetic
Those stans and media also rate him as the GOAT defender, which isn't true:sleeping

Sorry but this is really dumb. Just because we live in this day in age are we unfortunately exposed to dumb fans on the internet. Do you really think Kobe stans online have any sort of outcome on Kobe's performance? No, so why should it influence his ranking?

Its funny that you just write a description of the rape case and have no explanation for it. Well guess what, Kobe wasn't convicted of rape. You seriously are whining "Kobe isnt top 10 because his nickname sucks!!"..?

I get a lot of you are annoyed mostly by kobe stans overrating him but posts like this really do ruin your credibility.

In the end of the day, Kobe is sitting on his millions and will retire as a top 10 GOAT and NBA legend--while you'll continue to preach otherwise on t3h interw3bz. Have fun with that.

Missed a bit that will elevate Duncan over Kobe.

What about Wilt's scoring titles? Nash has one MVP more than Kobe. Durant has more scoring titles than Kobe. You misssed Russell's MVPs. You missed other peoples All NBA first teams. Duncan has ROY that Kobe doesn't have.
Kobe has surpassed Duncan. He was the best player on the floor 4 out of 5 times LA and San Antonio met in the Playoffs. And the longevity isn't even close between the two. Kobe is still playing at a high level, Duncan hasn't been since '08.

In '01 WCF, Kobe averaged 33-7-7 and the Lakers swept #1 seed San Antonio
In '02 WCSF, Kobe outscored San Antonio by himself in the 4th quarter of game 4 and hit the gamewinner, he scored 11 points on 5-5 shooting in the 4th quarter of game 3
In '08 WCF, Kobe scored 14 points and hit a gamewinner in the 4th quarter of Game 1 leading his team from a 20 point comeback. He was great throughout the rest of the series as well scoring 39 in the clincher.

Kobe just owned Duncan's Spurs in the Playoffs, what else can I say :confusedshrug:

None of those are reasons to rank him lower. Not at all.

Kobe has a better resume that Hakeem.
As for Shaq/Duncan, its reasonable to align those 3 however you like...they are all pretty much on par.... somewhere in the 2nd half of top 10.

Yeah, just slap ANYBODY in Kobe's spot on the Lakers and they'll still win....right? Which doesn't explain why the Lakers didn't start winning titles until Kobe became a starter. Same tired hater tripe....different day:facepalm

What? People were putting him in the top 10 after 09, and then a large majority did after 2010

03-04 regular season:

03-04 playoffs:

Get back to me when Kobe Bryant can be as all around dominant as Kevin Garnett being a team's dominant defensive anchor/presence/leader while also being the leading scorer and best facilitator on the team leading your team to the #1 record in the WC and carrying your team to the WCF. All with a lackluster roster with injury problems.

on the other hand i bet you expect Garnett to take fade away buzzer beaters over three defenders while teammates are wide open before you honor him with comparison to lord mamba

Garnett is an infinitely better defensive player than Kobe Bryant and part of the reason he's better. DEAL WITH IT.

True. You have guys like Iron Fist on here.

Height has it's advantages. Who knew? But it has to be ruled out because it just wouldn't be fair to Kobe Bryant.

Let's do magic so everybody is the same height and athleticism as Kobe Bryant to make it fair.

What a well argued and constructive post, It is quite obvious that you put a lot of thought in to that post and I think that you should be applauded for it.
:applause:

In regards to the thread, Kobe is anywhere between 7-10 in the all time ranking. Winning 5 rings with two of them being the guy, along with two FMVP and an MVP, longevity, 7 finals appearances etc, should automatically make him a top 10. I have him 8th in truth.

Can you name your top 10? Just curious.

I agree with you, b/c as a Kobe fan i have him in those same spots as well. but question, how come this "the man" thing only goes against Kobe? Kareem has 6 titles, only 2 FMVP, yet no one says that about him. Magic has 5 titles, 3 FMVP and no one says it about him. I can continue with Duncan, Shaq or Bird. But it seems like this agenda is only used against Kobe. Not saying you are using it but u get what i mean. It's not like Kobe wasn't HUGE during the 3 peat, as evidenced by the stats.

The reason is, is because there was no debate as to who's team it was for those first 3 rings. Duncan was > Parker in 07 as well.

If Shaq was winning most of his rings in similar fashion to 06, he'd get the same shit.

The comparison you are trying to draw here doesn't work.

Fair enough, but does that make his rings count any less like people try to make it? Did he not put up great numbers during the 3 peat? If i didn't know any better and listened to people on here who try to discredit him, i'd think he was merely a bench player.

Depends. If a player, hypothetically, as a 2nd option, played much better than the 1st option with whom you are comparing him to, it shouldn't take much away, if anything at all (another issue would be the talent on the respective teams). At least that's how I choose to rationalize this issue.

I don't think it should count against him though because i strongly believe no one could've been better than a prime Shaq. Nobody would've won FMVP over him. No one could've ever been number 1 option over a prime Shaq. No smart coach would choose a guard as the main guy OVER a prime Shaq. Kobe still put up respectable numbers during that 3 peat.

But i get what you're saying though, i just don't like how people completely dismiss those 3 rings as if he did nothing.

Actually when I typed that post, I forgot about Russell so Kobe is 9th BUT can climb as far 5th with another ring and FMVP. Top tens are usually flawed anyway because of the various positions but i'll give it a shot.

1) Michael Jordan
2) Kareem
3) Magic
4) Russell
5) Shaq
6) Wilt
7) Duncan
8) Bird
9) Kobe
10) Hakeem

I only consider 'the man' thing with other contexts. Kareem won 6 rings with maybe 3 of them being the man but I take into account that he's the record holder for most points scored, was versatile and had a 20 year career as well as other records and impressive stats as well. Kobe has the rings, being the man, finals appearances and being 'clutch'. What makes him not any higher is because the top 3 were just flat out the best 3 players ever at their position, the players ahead of him in the 4-7 positions were just better/more dominant than him (although Kobe in 2006 was just a machine). Although I believe that Kobe will overtake Bird anyway when he retires and may reach Duncans level, but it'll take a ring and a FMVP to be in the Wilt and Shaq region.

That's just my opinion though. I prefer ranking in terms on positions or Guards, Fowards, Centers personally.
