there was a big story in China about a few months ago about an American tourist helping a homeless lady in China, and how the chinese have become uncaring people. they even gave him some nickname i can't remember.

Girl gets hit by a car I believe it was 18-19 people who walked by her(not watching video since I saw it back few months ago) No one decides to help the girl went to the hospital after the dumbass bitch of a mother who left her on a busy street found her after a storekeeper moved her body from the street to a safe place. The reason the people don't help(Keep in mind this is a communist country) is 1 they don't care 2. they don't want to get sued because there was a case where a women was stabbed then a man came to help her and she purposely put the blame on him and got ****ed. On top of this, their media is heavily censored by a government that fosters a "mind your own business" mentality. The result is very little amounts of free flowing communication. And very little communication equates to very little intelligence (at least, socially).

Another thing people fail to understand about the bystander effect isn't that people are unwilling to help. Rather, it's that they fail to contextualize things. That's why people sit back and are more curious/apathetic than helpful. Without narratives, people are unwilling to do anything.

Yeah, immigrants (especially older Asians) tend to suck at contextualizing due to lack of education, cultural barriers, and a self-preserving mentality. Their children are better but don't have this social intelligence fully developed either. This is why there is a lot of frustration and mental issues amongst Asian-Americans as they're being forced into a systematic process without understanding the social cues behind it.

I mean, it's not to say that white Americans are better or worse at contextualizing/having more awareness for others around them.

It's just that I'm Asian and I just think it's kind of funny watching these dynamics play out because most of these people would never ever question themselves.

most of those small chinese joints are barely surviving. i feel bad for some of the small carryouts in the city with so many ghetto people hanging out in front of them and you know they're walking in asking for all kinds of free shit, and probably get mad when told cups of ice or water are 50 cents, or they don't give out condiments unless you order something. its just some of the worst shit i see where people trying to run a business having to deal with so many of those ghetto people hanging in front of their operation.

theres a popeyes local to me that charges 50 cents for each additional sauce after the first one, and its only free if you get the specific items that go with it.

I've been to China before (Bejing).. and it's SCARY crossing the street.. I was in a tour, waiting to cross the street at the traffic lights. The walk sign comes on.. and the tour guide literally freaks out and yells at us to speed walk / run across the street..
