In my opinion,

1999 - Tim Duncan
2000 - Shaquille O'Neal
2001 - Shaquille O'Neal
2002 - Shaquille O'Neal
2003 - Tim Duncan
2004 - Kevin Garnett
2005 - Tim Duncan
2006 - Kobe Bryant
2007 - Kobe Bryant
2008 - Kobe Bryant
2009 - Lebron James
2010 - Lebron James
2011 - Lebron James
2012 - Lebron James

Note - 2011 Dirk had a better season than LeBron did but LeBron was the better overall player. You could say the same for 2009 and 2010 with Kobe as well and that he had a better season but was just a worse overall player.

Iverson was never a top 3 player so I'm really not sure why you would be surprised that he wasn't the best player in the NBA.

In 01 he won the MVP and he's not even a top 3 player in that year?

98% accurate, my list is completely identical except I'm not entirely sure whom I'd give best player honors to in 2009 between Kobe and Lebron.

Lebron averaged 28, 7, and 7 on 49% shooting that year, but lost in the Conference Finals.

Kobe averaged 27, 5, and 5 on 47% shooting that year, but won the NBA championship.

There's only 1 point, 2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 percentage points separating the two.

The trend continues into the playoffs. Take a look at the Conference Finals.

Lebron averaged 39, 8, and 8 on 48% shooting.

Kobe averaged 34, 6, and 6, on 49% shooting.

Essentially, I'd give the nod to Lebron, but I also could understand if someone made an argument for Kobe. It's not as cut-throat as many posters lead others to believe, in my opinion at least.

Now, for an idiot to come into this thread and say Kobe was better than Lebron in 2010, when he averaged 30, 7, and 9 on 50% shooting, that's something extremely different, and deserves an infinite amount of facepalms attached.

99' Duncan
00-02' Shaq
03' Duncan
04' Garnett
05' Duncan
06' Wade
07' -09' Bryant
10 - James
11' - Dirk
12' - James

10' I can see an argument for Bryant over James and in 08' Paul over Bryant.
Overall, Duncan/Kobe/Duncs with 3 each, James with 2, Wade, Garnett and Dirk with 1.

So overall

To me you have to TAKE the mantle of best player away from the previous player, you don't just get it because you played alittle better one particular year. Kevin Garnett was never the best player in the NBA, in 2004 he played slightly better than Duncan but I would still choose Duncan in 2004 to be on my team. Dirk Nowitzki was never a Top 5 player in the NBA. He played like it during the 2006 Playoff Series against San Antonio and most of the 2011 Playoffs but even then there was always at least 5 players I would rather have on my team that were better overall players than he was.

I agree. 2009 is actually close between Kobe and LeBron and sometimes I do say that Kobe was better than LeBron that season. A lot of people are only fascinated with LeBron that season because of his numbers but I personally thought LeBron was better in 2010 and 2012 than he was in 2009.

I think you meant Dirk had the better playoff run. But I get what you're trying to say.
No, I meant he had a better season even if you include regular season. Dirk was close to being an MVP favorite before he had gotten injured and missed 9 games during the middle of that season. Mavericks were 2-7 when Dirk was out and I believe the Mavericks finished with a very similar record to the Heat, 1 win less I believe.

Someone please explain to me using substantial evidence why and how Kobe was the best player in the league over Lebron in 2010

If you're using " he won a title that year" as your only argument, than you are admitting that Kobe was not the best player in 2006, 2007, or 2008.

Majorities are Lamer Than My Opinions Cause They Fallow What the Media and Hype Say... Not By Realistical Analysis.

Name me a Player that Was Doubled and Tripled as Much as Shaq in NBA History and STILL SCORE 24-25 PPG ON 60% FG? NOT EVEN WILT...so show more Respect to Shaq who gave Kobe`s 3 1st Rings and WAS THE BEST PLAYER since Jordan from the Late 90s and Early Mid 00s.

Shaq was a Better Player than Bryant. Stats and REAL B-BALL OPINIONS (Older Guys that Watched Basketball For Way Longer Than The Kids On thus Forum) WILL AGREE.

Why not Duncan on 06 and 07 as well?

Duncan didn't really decline as a player yet. Just look at his playoff numbers.

And Kobe didn't really get better. He just had to carry the scoring load along with getting the advantage of rule change.

Duncan was noticeable worse in 2006 due to the plantar fasciitis injury he suffered in the regular season so I understand why people consider Kobe better that year. He put up nice numbers in the post-season but they were against two pretty weak defensive teams and front-courts with the Kings and Mavericks.

I agree that Duncan should be ahead of Kobe in 2007 though especially since Kobe had coasted defensively that season.
