Read the title and immediately thought of Reggie Miller's last game. Never liked Miller but well deserved and classy gesture to call the timeout for the ovation.

I have a feeling Kobe is going to get that treatment in every arena he plays in during his last year.

The best ending would be Kobe's team about to win the championship and the coach on the opposing team does what Larry Brown did. Call a timeout and have his players applaud the Mamba.

Applaudbe.

Retirebe.

Losing the playoff series and ending your career without a ring is the perfect way?

I definitely thought this was going to be a clip of Jordan pushing Russel

its not about the results of the game/season. its about having the absolute respect of your peers and fans for them to realize your constant dedication to the game and to your franchise in the fashion reggie did for indiana. every player should strive to play the way reggie played to get that recognition at the end of their career.

You have to take the teams involved in context. These two teams were probably the last real rivalry the NBA will ever see. These are two teams who nearly killed each other, both on the court as well as the Brawl. What you see happening is the effect of Reggie playing the game how it was suppose to be played his entire career. Reggie probably wasn't in the top 50% of the NBA in terms of athleticism, defensive ability or overall basketball skill. However, he worked his ass off, conditioned himself better & competed with a obsession for the game that was only topped by Jordan himself.

This. Your job is too win. If your not winning, your not doing your job well. Reggie went out a never-won-anything loser, that's as far from perfect as it gets.

Thanks for making me cry jerk, I remember this game well. I went to his last 2 home games, and hell any game after the all star break that season was nothing but reggie retire talk. Sure do miss him. I still wear my Reggie Jersey, my whole family has Reggie jerseys for when we watch on tv or go to the games, and for when at home I wrap myself up in his retirement banner. What sux is he is a great commentator and spent all his time in LA or Miami through the playoffs.

How exactly was Reggie supposed to be winning these ships? The only time he had a player even remotely close to the same level as his, it was already his 13th season and they got decimated by the Lakers.

In the world of small market teams, Reggie's Pacers essentially won a championship. No small market team was going to be beating Jordan's Bulls or Hakeem's Rockets. They maximized their team potential at a greater level than ANY team in the league during their 90s run as a consistent Top 3 Eastern Conference power.

Kobe's was in his 16th season and his team was still a contender.

There is no excuse for a 13th year guy not to do the same thing.

Nope

Being a loser is when you (Wilt) have a teammate (West) that averaged 31-4-8 in the '69 and '70 Playoffs and still lose :facepalm

mj got that experience for an entire season in every arena as a wizard. even a team that he never even played for but only kicked their asses all the time during his prime years, retired his number.

but the truly best way to go out? of course it is to leave as the winner of the last game of the post season. to go out as champion.

retire: to give up one's work, business, career, etc.

Since Jordan did not "give up his career," but in fact returned to it (again), this is ineligible. When you retire, you stay away and don't come back.

It's Russell. Walking off into the sunset with his 11th ring, leaving those balloons up in the rafters and ruining the planned parades and celebrations, and leaving the Lakers and their fans weeping in frustration while he cackles at all the naysayers who thought the Celtics were done.

Let's not get too misty about how Reggie went out, like he realized his 'time had passed' or something. If you know anything about Reggie, it's that he's stubborn and a fighter. The guy already admitted, had Ainge contacted him only a couple weeks earlier, that he would have signed with Boston in '07-08 for that championship run.
