View Full Version : Can anybody be a fan of Jordan/Kobe/Lebron simultaneously

It seems like you can't be a fan of all 3 players at the same time on this board. What gives? And if you're on one bandwagon please don't go calling the other fanbase trolls.

All 3 players are unique, all are amazing, each has a case for their own greatness (yes Jordians, allow people to make a case for Kobe).

No.

And I must relentlessly try and convert the other fan bases (except I don't want them to be on my side, I just want to argue the same thing with the same exact people in every thread).

I am a fan of all three. There are plenty of people that like Jordan and Kobe or Jordan and LeBron. I think it's rare to find people that are a fan of Kobe and Lebron though but I am one of those people. I'm just not a fan of Kobe's game these days but during his prime I was a big fan of his. His game is just so much different than what it use to be.

I was a fan of MJ and I liked Kobe because his game reminded me of MJ. I don't hate LeBron or anything but I just don't find his game that fun to watch...

I am a fan of silky-smooth jumpshots, tunraround fadeaways and unlimited range. I get more excited over great footwork than dunks and guys who live on the ft line

I do like LeBron's passing but his scoring game is very boring to me...

My favorite guys right now are Kobe, Deron and Rondo. Rondo is the rare non-jumpshooter that I like to watch.

I enjoy watching all of them, and I admire their talents. I do tend to focus most of my attention, and thus posting on 1 player/team, but I don't really have an irrational allegiance to any of them. I've criticize, praised, and defended all 3, as well as their rivals, at different times.

If you're a REAL NBA fan, you can be a fan of all 3 cuz you're a fan of the game, and not just a particular player. While you can still have your favorite(s), that doesn't override simple common sense and logic when it comes to discussing the game.

Then try to intimidate you with their fake army of sock puppet accounts. Makes sense, if you don't think about it. And whomever either wants to make false accusations against me for supposedly having sock puppet, or want to believe said asinine false accusations, be my guest.

I'll just add those to the other false accusations leveled against me without any proof whatsoever, for the last 6 months. If ISH ever decides to start doing IP address checks, you're going to see a lot of posters on here disappear, cuz they're really sock puppet accounts of one person, a moron like bwink23/godzuki/32dayz, for instance. DaHeezy

Disagree with that totally.

The way I see your question is comparing the Beatles, MJ, and Elvis is like comparing Jordan, Gretzky, and Babe Ruth and saying who was the greatest athlete. If you compared MJ, Prince, and James Brown it may be a different story.
But more closer to the point is that music can't be compared by stats, homerism, and things that compute on paper. Music is more acquired and liking one form does not conflict with greatness in another category. I see your point but it's a little too broad to say they are the exact same comparison

Idiots are always going to be idiots, plain and simple. The trick is to let them tie themselves up in their own idiocy, which isn't hard really. Arguing with a clear and valid point, in a discussion, has it's use in possibly helping people to see your point of view on any issue. When you argue for the sake of arguing like a lot of people on here do, the only thing you're convincing people of, is your own stupidity. Being that's it becomes way obvious that you clearly have no real understanding of what you're talking about.

There is a difference because music is an acquired taste It seems to me that music is much more innate than any particular sport. Almost everyone creates, and consumes music. Comparatively few play, or watch basketball.

and not as subjective as sports.I'd say music is much more subjective. Sports have objectives, and success at achieving those objectives can be objectively observed and quantified. There's a wide range of rhythms, and sound frequencies that can be described as musical. Any individual's preference for one over another is entirely subjective.

I agree that sports are often viewed differently, but for different reasons.

One is that a sport is much more competitive, by nature. If another team wins, your preferred team must lose. It's uncomfortable to contemplate the idea of your preferred team losing, so you delude yourself into thinking that your preferred team is the best team. If they do in fact lose, you'll probably rationalize it, by convincing yourself that they got screwed by the refs, bad luck, or unsporting tactics of some sort. Your delusions, and coping mechanisms lead to fear of, and resentment towards rival teams.

The other is the fact that sports typically involve some regional/tribal affiliation. People feel like "their" team represents them in some way. Their sense of affiliation with a certain franchise makes up a part of their self image. Because of this, they're more emotionally impacted by the results of a game. They feel insecure/depressed when the team loses, and they feel confident/happy when the team wins. Even their testosterone levels will temporarily spike, or plummet, depending on their team's success.

The words "team" and "player" are interchangeable in the above.

There usually isn't much direct competition in music, and there is less frequently a regional/tribal component, in modern times. There are some exceptions (e.g biggie vs tupac) where music does tap into those competitive/tribal tendencies, and in those cases their fans act crazy as well.

I'm not really a fan of Kobe, but he's at least tolerable as long as he's wearing a Lakers jersey. I root for the Lakers to win, so by default, I root for Kobe to win as well.

However, if he ever ended up on some other team (that isn't Miami or Orlando) I'll like him about as much as I like Carmelo Anthony.

Although I respect Jordan's greatness, I've never been a Bulls fan nor have I ever rooted for him to win. Great player, I just have to particular connection to him.

It's definitely possible to be a fan of all 3. I personally can't say that I am a fan of all 3. Michael Jordan is my 2nd favorite player of All-Time. Kobe I've gone back and forth on forever and probably always will. I hated Kobe during the Shaq/Kobe years but it was mostly because my most hated player of All-Time is Shaq, I hate the Lakers in general, I felt the refs gave them preferential treatment and I hated almost every one of the players on those teams. I have always been a fan of Kobe's game however, he's easily one of the 5 most exciting players I've ever watched play. If Kobe played on a team I didn't hate (and never played with Shaq, because I pretty much always ended up hating his teammates too because of how much I hated him, lol) then he'd probably be one of my favorite players ever.

As for LeBron, I've always hated him and his game. Like one of the other posters said, I find his game to very boring and ugly. I've hated him pretty much since the day I saw his "Chosen One" tattoo, which was when they were showing his High School games on TV. The media, from Day 1 has made me hate LeBron, because he's been force fed down our throats on TV from his Senior year in High School as if he was already the greatest player to ever play the game. I don't like his personality, his sense of self entitlement, like he's preordained to be the best and that if he isn't considered the best it's just wrong. On top of that, he played for the Cavs, I hate all Cleveland teams in general as well. There are many other reasons I hate LeBron ("The Decision" is NOT one of them).

Some of those reasons might seem silly, in some ways I agree they are but it just is what it is. I'm capable of being objective about all 3 players, despite whether I hate them or like them and I don't try to downplay anything they do based on my opinion of them as a fan and I don't choose to believe one is better than the other because of my opinion of them as a fan. They will probably go down as the 3 greatest perimeter players of All-Time when all is said and done.

Fanhood is different. You're supposed to be loyal to the team that you follow. Not become a fairweather fan of all the elite players in the league and bandwagon the teams that they happen to play for.

The answer to the OP's question is no. You can appreciate the game of different players and enjoy watching them play. But to be a fan of all of them? Root for the flavor of the month to win? No. A legit Laker fan, for example, can't also declare himself to be a LeBron/Heat fan.

Fans tend to acknowledge the weaknesses and shortcomings of their favorite player. The stans on the other hand get a bit defensive :lol

You can usually start a heated argument with a

Jordan stan - anything kobe related, usually the most defensive & arrogant of the three.

Kobe stan - diminish Kobe's greatness (a.k.a rode shaq's nuts or he's not on par with MJ, etc),

LBJ stan - :lol :lol :lol :lol

I'm somewhere in between of an MJ stan/fan. And a huuuge Kobe fan

I love Wade & Bosh... but i keep hearing many say they are superstars...

One averaged 14-7... basically Horace Grant numbers, minus the defense...

The other played only like a random 22 ppg all-star SG, if he played like a superstar then what do we consider somebody like Westbrook? MEGASTAR?

To call a player a superstar based on name value is absolutely stupefying when there is no abundant superstar production...

The only one who played like a superstar in Miami was Lebron... they go as far as only he can take them...http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showpost.php?postcount=1&p=7474395
