View Full Version : Woj: Hornets Suns Wolves 3-Way Deal
no pun intended

Adrian Wojnarowski
Hornets, Suns, Wolves are nearing agreement on a 3-way deal that would send Robin Lopez to the Hornets in a sign-and-trade, sources tell Y!
Along with Lopez, Suns would send Hakim Warrick to Hornets. Minny would send Wesley Johnson and a 1st round pick to the Suns, sources say.
Magic miss out on Lopez again!

Ive been trying to figure this out as well. I'm leaning towards dudley. i dont know what his contract is like, but it seems like the only piece that either team has/is willing to give up, that the timberwolves could actually use. pure speculation, of course.

For some reason, I've always been under the impression that Wesley Johnson has been in the league for a good 4-5 seasons, and just hasn't panned out yet. But looking now, guy was only drafted in 2010! Kid only played two seasons at 22mpg, and they're packing a 1st with him to trade him? Let him get a chance to adjust in the league a little bit eh?
Or am I just totally off? I don't watch many Wolves game, so maybe its just clear that he just doesn't have what it takes to a be a significant piece in the NBA. I don't know.

Well, Childress gave us 5.5 last season hahaha :lol
Solid for a bench guy. With Beasley, Dudley, Brown, someone like Wes will be a good 4th wing player. He had a decent rookie season too, 9/3/2 with solid defense.

Wes Johnson is a game away from the D-League. Trust me. He's terrible. I'd take a 2nd round pick for him from the Heat.
I like it merely for the pick, and dumping Warrick's awful deal. Wes Johnson is an afterthought to me, much like Vince Carter was in the Gortat deal, but the Suns will need help at his position, so he would fill a need.

About 10 million over the next 2 seasons.

I've been a huge Wesley Johnson fan since he was at Syracuse.
Trouble for him in Minny was, its Minny. And they kept playing him at the 2 and asked him to shoot jumpers all day. Move him to the 3 and put him in the frontcourt. His rebounding will go up. He won't be overmatched on defense. He can get out on the break rather than hang back to ensure an outlet pass, he can drop into the paint to get try and get offensive boards instead of having to sneak back on defense to balance the transition defense.
I think Alvin Gentry is a good coach for him. Players coach who puts his guys in a position to succeed.

Wes Johnson- Mike Beasley: Re-united and it feels so good.
I love this for the Suns. They dump a sh!tty contract (Warrick), pick up a young guy (I see Wes getting a lot of hate, but I still think he can be good on the right team) and get a first rounder all for a sign and trade of their back up center.
I also like the squad New Orleans is building. I didn't like the Jack trade and I thought they could've used Okafor/Ariza (but not at their prices so it's reasonable), but Lopez/ Anderson/ Davis is a nice, very young front court. Davis can play with either Lopez or Anderson which gives them lots of flexibility with line ups.
I've always liked Minny's roster even though I think they're giving up too early on Beasley/Johnson... they're gonna be really dependent on Williams. I know they went for Batum and are going for AK47 now, but I think they're taking a huge risk. Assuming Rubio can come back in the same form (big assumption), they're gonna still have to hope Roy can hold up and Williams can give them meaningful minutes.

He's 25. I don't see much room for improvement on what he is, and what he is isn't much. I don't hate on many NBA players, but Wes Johnson is truly one of the stupidest players I have witnessed. He steps foot onto the court, and he looks stunned.

The trouble for Wesley, is that he is Wesley Johnson. I honestly don't know if you've seen him play at all very much in the NBA. For starters....
1) He cannot shoot the ball. His 1 year at Syracuse was an aberration.
2) He cannot dribble the ball at all. He has some of the worst handles in the NBA (including centers and power forwards)
3) He is incredibly soft.
4) He doesn't play good defense.
5) He has no drive at all.
6) He doesn't slash.
7) He stands around and does nothing a lot.
8) He has no aggression in him.

One thing... while Wes isn't a great defender, he's definitely not bad. When motivated (like against Kobe that one game), he can play exceptional defense. Otherwise, his defense is at minimum passable.

I realize that's just a fan guarantee, but the Wolves aren't guaranteed to be a playoff team in the West. Barring mass injuries, the only guarantees in the West are OKC, San Antonio, both LA teams, Memphis, and Dallas. The other two spots will be hotly contested between Minnesota, Phoenix, Denver, Utah and possibly Portland. Minnesota is in the mix, though. I'd consider them a favorite for one of the two final spots with Denver and Utah.

that wasn't intended as a shot at your team but they have done little of note other than get lottery picks.
You've probably seen him play 400x times more than I. I seen him play about 20-25 NBA games in his career, not a huge total I know, but Minny aint really lighting it up on ESPN and TNT. One of the games I did watch was when he went at Kobe and dropped like 25 on him, and played some stellar defense. Shot the lights out with confidence
He was the Big East player of the year, and balled in big games. Was a top 4 pick despite having a horrid year as you say at 'Cuse.
