With summer basketball leading directly into the season – and I'm expecting to play until next June – I have to take some load off my knees. I've got to shave some of this weight."

I really admire his work ethic he keeps on working and working and doing smart things.

How do you think this will effect his post game? It can't be good.

It's is a good interview btw.

His post game isn't predicated on strength. It's with footwork and deception. Besides, he's still strong. He'll probably just go down to about 200 lbs. He doesn't get to play in the post that much anyway with Gasol + Bynum already down there.

It isn't going to help when he is trying to back down but maybe it can give him a little more lift in his jumpshot.

Yeah with his fadeaway he can just elevate over guys and knock down jumpers. He's supposed to be getting that treatment he got last year again. He won't have to really work to establish position on his spots anyway considering he'll be getting screens and can just post up right on the block. And with Nash feeding him he can get the ball where he wants it.

[QUOTE]To put Bryant's legendary playing career into context, Krzyzewski shared the story about his recent appearance on Piers Morgan Tonight on CNN. "This part never was aired," Krzyzewski says. "Piers asked me to name the [all-time] starting five that you would like to have on your team, and I said: 'It has to be on accomplishment, but I would always take Bill Russell

Bryant knows this is his last chance to win gold. That is why he plans to savour every moment. He says the opening ceremony is his "favourite part about the Olympics, meeting all the other athletes". Expect him to show up for swimming, equestrian events, archery, and women's volleyball. He plans to support his fellow countrymen who "don't get the recognition they deserve".

Godbe having planned out which women to see.

Kobe lost 19 pounds (http://insidehoops.com/forum/showthread.php?t=50120)

Back in late 2007(offseason), I remember reading certain posts that Kobe lost weight because of his trade demands. I also remember that offseason to be one heated offseason for the Black Mamba. Damn :oldlol:

If you take a look on the second page, you'll notice a nice Lebron23 gem.

Sorry for going off topic.

On topic:

It's good to know that the Mamba is keeping his body in check. All though from the posts I've read in this thread, 190-200 IBS seems light for an athlete like Kobe Bryant.

Kobe should have a long career he's doing the right things at his age, also he knows the importance of stretching as he mentioned in one video. Kareem new that as well, he did yoga which is why he lasted so long.

Imagine LA as a run and gun team... maybe that's why he's losing weight.

I bet Kobe could still get amazing stats in a system like that.

Looks like he's back to where he was in the '07 FIBA games. He was listed at 205 but I'm guessing he was playing around 215-220 the last couple of years.

Less weight is less stress and strain in his knees. He's looking out for his last few years.

He's gonna have trouble backing down his defenders down in the post though. Positioning will be important.

I'm going to break the trendbe here and say that while it is good for his knees that he is droppingweightbe it might not be good for his overall game. Champbe is not a physical player anymore, but losing weight makes you lose strengthbe as well. Losing 10 pounds can make you lose as much as 20 pounds of bench press in strengthbe. Bench press isn't a good predicterbe of an NBA players gamebe, but losing strength might not be a good thing. I assume Kobe didn't lose 16 pounds of pure fat, which is just about impossible (especially for someone who would be 8% bodyfatbe of less), so that means he likely lost some muscle making him lose even more strength than if he had lost pure fat.

Stillbe I hope it helps him out, and if it can help him prolong his career then it was a good move. He should take up yogabe.

I don't think anyone has said greatestplayerundertwohundredpoundsbe yet so bo ya.

ShaqAttack3234

I remember when Kobe did this in the '07-'08 offseason when preparing for the Olympics the following season, it did pay off that year. He was about 200, iirc, and looked quicker and more athletic than he had in the '06-'07 season. Of course, he was still in his prime then, and had most of his athleticism. It resulted in his best all around season, arguably his best season in general, and the best I've seen him play defensively since probably the 3peat.

He's obviously not going to be '03-'09 Kobe, much less '06-'08 Kobe again, but all his effort seems to be delaying a massive decline and keeping him at a star level. He didn't seem like he ever got above 210 or so after the '07 weight loss, but he has had knee problems, and almost every time he's lost weight, it's paid off. Aside from the '07-'08 example, he had tried bulking up to 230 in '04-'05, had a subpar year, dropped to 214, and the result was '05-'06, 35 ppg, 81, 62 in 3 quarters ect.

Hopefully, this will pay off at the defensive end during the season.
