View Full Version : Nate Robinson to Chicago

The Bulls are close to adding veteran point guard Nate Robinson, according to reports. SI.com’s Sam Amick quoted Robinson agent Aaron Goodwin as saying his client would sign with Chicago “barring unforeseen problems.” Robinson played well on offense for Golden State last season, averaging 11.2 points (42.4 percent shooting), 23.5 minutes, 1.2 steals and a career-high 4.5 assists. He's a decent replacement for losing John Lucas III, both are streaky shooters. Had his moments last season with the Warriors.

Not a bad signing... Was Thibs in Boston when Nate was in Boston?
Yeah I think so.

I hope not. It'll probably be Hinrich, with Nate and Teague coming off the bench.

well that changes it from not bad to pretty good. Rose/Hinrich/Nate would've been really good... But while Nate's best years weren't in Boston, Thibs and Doc got use out of him. Good JL3 replacement

Nate was actually surprisingly good in Golden State I thought (yeah was terrible in Boston), underrated pick-up.

I guess this means that Kirk will be the full-time 2 now instead of being a combo guard.

I also guess this means that Jimmy Butler will mainly be a SF instead of a SG.

PG - Teague/Robinson
SG - Marco/Hinrich
SF - Deng/Butler/Vlad
PF - Boozer/Gibson/Vlad - Gibson is way better though
C - Noah/Mohammed

I'm not sure who else I am missing.

Edit - I forgot that Rip is still on the team but he is made out of glass so he'll be like Rose in less than 5 games into the season.

Vlad Rad as well but he is a tweener forward.

Marquis Teague is not starting at PG.

I'm 100% sure he is going to ride the bench before he goes down to the D-League to learn in-game on how to be a PG.

He was not NBA ready in the first place.

Nate's a good kid and wants to do well but he's an immature moron. He clearly has some sorts of learning issues too, concentration problems, etc. He doesn't like staying alone in hotel rooms, it scares him and he gets lonely so he follows his teammates around. He has trouble staying with the gameplan for too long, he gets bored, he gets confused, he freelances.

I feel like he needs help, but people bring him in not willing to do so, get annoyed and chuck him out.

Nate is a terrible option as a backup PG and a huge liability on the defensive end. Other than that, he's a great spark plug off the bench. He'll average 8 or 9 PPG and give you around 20 points every now and again. He can shoot you back into games if his shot is falling, and he's still an athletic freak, obviously. He's a shorter Shannon Brown with better perimeter shooting at this point.

Good pickup, and a nice replacement that's a better overall player than Lucas. Chicago has done a damn good job this summer considering the limited resources. Got a bench that's pretty much better than last year.

Nate Robinson is a supremely talented guy. But, yes, he does have some sort of mental deficiency.

THE signature Nate Robinson game. The infamous "finally gets out of D'Antoni's doghouse" game:

How so?

Last Year
Rose/Watson/Lucas
Hamilton/Brewer
Deng/Korver/Butler
Boozer/Gibson/Scal
Noah/Asik

This Year
Rose/Hinrich/Robinson/Teague
Hamilton/Bellinelli
Deng/Butler(improved a lot)
Boozer/Gibson/Radmonovich
Noah/Mohammed

Just a overall more balanced and better bench. We sacrifice a little Defense, but can actually put the ball in the basket now. And all this while saving money.

We dropped at the C position, but gained at the PG, SG, and PF position. Pretty good in my book.

Hmm, I see your train of thought. I think I'm more inclined to believe you guy's bench was better last year per their performance throughout the season. The fact that their starting backcourt was gone for a substantial chunk of the season, yet they still made out with the #1 seed in the East was quite impressive.

Asik, Korver, Watson, JLIII, Brewer. You'd think after their performance last year, the Bulls' front office would exhibit at least a bit of appreciation-based loyalty.

Wish you guys all the best nonetheless

Bulls want to keep the facade of everything being "basketball decisions" bring made, but everyone knows its about the money. The Bench Mob was no doubt great, but they were gonna kill us when that Tax goes into effect. Especially the likes of Brewer and Watson who were being overpaid.

The fact that just about EVERY bench mob player (except Asik's crazy contract) has signed a significantly less contract compared to what we we're paying proves that. Then add the fact this team has failed twice in the post season, Gar/Pax probably decided it was time to try something new.

While a Youtube series might not be a full evaluation on a guy's life, he has seemed to show a lot more maturity on his Youtube series compared to what he was a few years back here in NY. He seems to have better clarity on who he is, & what his role is on a team. Seems a lot more at peace than constantly doing stuff for attention and just being an overgrown kid.

I dont think you are really close with the guards.

Terrible backup PG but great spark plug?

Anywho IMO this is a great signing. Nate is the sorta guy to carry a position for half a season with a chip on his shoulder.

Why is it that such a foreign concept for you to grasp? Would you rather have a well-rounded backup who can spell your starter effectively at both ends of the floor, or just an offensive burst off the bench (which is all Nate is good for)? The terms "spark plug" or "jolt" are commonly reserved for people who can give you a scoring boost off the bench. Extrapolate a little, buddy.

Without Rose, Chicago already have a big enough question mark at the starting PG spot.

Nate gives Chicago what they need. Offensive firepower off the bench. I like the move. He's a guard. Who cares about PG, SG. Guard that can score and light it up, although just not as consistent as you like. Not many options to choose from. Thumbs up from me.

A terrible backup is terrible. Not great at anything.
Nate is a great spark plug. Therefore an adequate to above average backup.

Cool story, bro. Have fun watching Rondo and even Chalmers lighting this fool up in the Playoffs, I guess. I like Nate and I do like the signing. I certainly didn't say it was terrible, but good job focusing on nothing but the negatives in my post.

Nate IS a bad backup at this point. Maybe 5 out of 10 games he'll be able to come in cold and light it up but the rest of the time he's struggling to establish a rhythm and playing matador defense, all the while giving up more points at the other end of the floor than he's scoring.

If it's the slam dunk, no brainer signing you say it is, why wasn't anybody tripping over themselves to sign him? Why is he playing for his fifth team in his upcoming eighth season? Bulls needed to patch the hole left by Rose in the back court by committee and signed guys like Hinrich and Robinson to get by. Nothing more, nothing less.

Dude is funny. He gets all aggressive, angry with side dishes of being a smartass when someone disagrees with his opinion or finds a flaw in the logic. Yet he'd be the first poster to chime in when other posters do it.
