To be fair it's not like TMac was a true superstar. For a four year stretch he was great, but injuries would take their toll on anyone. A true superstar is someone like Shaq, LeBron, Kobe, Duncan, who all dominated for a long long time. TMac was headed there, but couldn't stay on the court to do it.

T-Mac was a true superstar from 2001 to 2005, yes. After that he was still a star but not a real superstar. I really wish people would look at the context of T-Mac's career, particularly during his Orlando years, he almost always played well in the playoffs but then again morons like Shitthe********** don't let facts get in their way  :facepalm

True Story:
Orlando goes to play the Lakers. Kobe is playing with a bum shoulder and a shoulder brace, on his right shoulder. Orlando is up big. Kobe takes over. 24 points in the 4th quarter... and he locked down TMac.
After the game McGrady was pissed off about the officiating and commented to Orlando's gm about it. The GM got pissed off at TMac and realized then and there that he didn't have the fire or drive to really do jack shit.
Yeah, TMac with a great work ethic should have been a legend. He said it himself, he wasn't a "practice" player.

He also went to the ECF when he was paired up with an elite Center in Dwight Howard. Tmac got to play with an elite Center in Yao Ming from '05-'08 and he still couldn't get past the 1st round or do anything. The only time the Rockets did get past the 1st round was in 2009 when Tracy McGrady was out and injured for the playoffs.
The answer is no, there has never been a superstar that has achieved less unless you consider Melo a superstar then I would I say him but I don't consider Melo a superstar so the answer is no one.

You fail to bring up[ that Rockets was was the best McGrady ever played with. Yao was healthy, we got Artest and the young guys in Scola, Brooks and Hayes had greatly improved from last season.

In the 2009 season...
Without McGrady, the Rockets were 33-14
With McGrady, the Rockets were 20-15.
So really, McGrady was not doing that 2009 Rockets team a favor by any means and they more than likely would have gotten knocked out of the 1st round again had McGrady continued to play.
People say all the time that the Blazers was a good matchup for the Rockets but they wouldn't have gotten that matchup if Mcgrady continued to play because the Rockets would have gotten a much worse and lower seed like 6-8 range and they would have lost in the 1st round again as always.

They use to get comparison to Shaq and Kobe when Tmac was first traded to Houston. I never thought the comparison was accurate but I do believe this part of the comparison is accurate.
When the Lakers ran their offense through Kobe instead of Shaq, they would fail and they fail to reach their goals and achieve what they are suppose to which was to win a title.
Same thing with the Rockets.
When the Rockets ran their offense through Tmac instead of Yao, they would also fail and fail to reach their goals which was to win a playoff series or go a little further.
Rockets run through offense through Yao full time in 2009 and they finally get past the 1st round but then Yao got hurt again in the 2nd round.

He was past his prime by then just like VC was in 2010 where he and his team got to the ECF.
The thread was about comparing their comparisons not comparing how good they were and who ranks higher. I probably have McGrady higher just because he peaked higher than VC did and VC never accomplished anything special. He did accomplish more than Tmac did though but accomplishments are used for tiebreakers as I have always said.

You might as well have added the time he scored 13 points 35 seconds.
The question of this thread is controversial because a lot of people have different definitions of what a superstar is and who superstars were.

T-Mac does have excuses. I know some don't want to hear it and may call it a "cop-out", but he simply did have a lot of bad luck. Wrong place, wrong time.
Yao didn't do anything particularly special in that series to advance against the Blazers. The Rockets had just assembled all the right pieces that season and were fortunate to be against a lesser opponent. Had T-Mac not been on the decline that year with all the debilitating injuries and at least retained his 2005 form, he would have advanced with them.
Yao was finally able to stay on the floor past 31 minutes, a luxury T-Mac didn't have that year when he was at his Houston best.
Truth is , if people actually looked at T-Mac's career more closely, they'd see that he did in fact seemingly have shitty ass luck. I'm not even joking, dude was always in bad situations in terms of building his legacy, although admittedly he should have had a better work ethic. Let's not forget he was born with mild scoliosis though. Very few perimeter stars in history would have done better than T-Mac did with those horrible Magic teams. With the Rockets, he was only in his prime in 2005, as hardwood said, and again, he usually still did well in the playoffs. I think I've heard good arguments about the Jazz series (forget the year 07 perhaps) being a series where T-mac could be blamed for the loss, and that's fine, but let's not act like T-Mac didn't do what he could during his prime years. His career is very sad considering what he could have been. And this bullshit about T-Mac being "unable" to make the second round is retarded, how on earth is it his fault that the Hawks got jobbed by the refs (the NBA even apologized to them for christ's sake) this year when he's a goddamn role player at this point? :banghead: He should have been in the 2nd round this year:coleman:

Yao didn't do anything particularly special in that series to advance against the Blazers.
Sure he did, he anchored their defense which Aldridge said that bothered him, he rebounded well, the offense ran through him, he drew a bunch of double and triple teams which got his teammates open shots and he also made big shots.
Had T-Mac not been on the decline that year with all the debilitating injuries and at least retained his 2005 form, he would have advanced with them.
The Rockets were 33-14 without McGrady that season
The Rockets were 20-15 with McGrady that season.
McGrady was not doing that team any favors. He was actually just making them worse and it is apparent that they would have been worse off with him playing than without him.
If McGrady played that season, the Rockets would have just had a lower and worse seed which would have gave them a tougher opponent in the first round which would have led to another 1st round exit especially since we know Tmac always flames out then.
Inefficient players that are soft, afraid of contact, and don't play defense and rebound don't make teams better especially good ones.
Yao was finally able to stay on the floor past 31 minutes, a luxury T-Mac didn't have that year when he was at his Houston best.
Too bad Yao actually played like 40 minutes per game in the 2007 series against the Jazz. Nice attempt though, but Tracy McGrady is still a loser that never accomplished anything in his career and doesn't deserve to.

Pistol Pete is the obvious one. I wanna say the most he won in the NBA before he was a now and then role player on the Celtics for a few games was 46 games one of his first couple years on a team that won more before he got there and fell off when he arrived. He didnt even win in college. Not only did he fail to make the NCAA tournament im reasonably sure he never even won the NIT. Dude literally accomplished nothing but his PPG average.

Let's not forget he was born with mild scoliosis though.
I'm pretty sure this is false because I have never heard of this.
let's not act like T-Mac didn't do what he could during his prime years.
I agree with you on this. If you pair up '01-'03 McGrady with '07-'09 Yao, they would have made major noise. Most people respect McGrady in Orlando such as myself. It's what he did after Orlando that makes him such a joke and a loser and what he did with Houston.
With that being said, I have no clue how someone could be a fan of both McGrady and LeBron. They have nothing in common, as a matter of fact they are almost opposites.
Lebron is consistent, efficient, durable, tough, plays hard defense, and works hard night in and night out whereas Tmac was inefficient, made of glass, soft, doesn't play defense, and he always quit on his team and takes multiple plays off night in and night out.
It makes no sense to me how one could like Tmac and Lebron.

Considering the praise Mitch Richmond gets I'll say Mitch Richmond.
Widely considered the second best shooting gaurd of the nineties, he really didn't accomplish much, especially as leader.
T-Mac had GOAT talent. And dafuq did Silkk ever do? No one even cares about him except you  Probably 200 better rappers out there200 better rappers? I'm from New Orleans, so I grew up with all that No Limit music...
...but Silkk was known as a terrible rapper even by No Limit standards.
There is an infinite number of better rappers than Silkk.

Replace McGrady with Lebron and the Magic have more success, easily. He would have at taken those crap Magic teams to the 2nd round.

Shame we never got to see him with the player Grant Hill should've been....both of their careers, damn shame.
For my money 2nd most talented 2/3 combo in history (I want to say most talented but Jordan is Jordan so I won't) and idiotic Orlando medical staff ruined it.

Replace McGrady with Lebron on the Rockets from '05 to '09 and the Rockets probably win a title. Then again I'm really not sure what is the point of comparing McGrady to LeBron. LeBron is flat out better and anyone who believes otherwise is just kidding themselves.
