Looks like they are trying to build via the draft, while developing and giving experience to the young prospects, at the same time.

Absolutely not.

Miles is a good signing.

Will be funny to see him & Boobie Gibson as teammates after Miles was supposed to be the missing piece to make Texas a Final Four team.

I'd say its a maybe not. Cleveland was knocking on the door last year before Andy V. missed half the season.

Not saying that as anything to put down Cleveland because they have a bright future, but I don't see how that team makes the Playoffs. It is still Kyrie Irving and no established 2nd or 3rd option unless you're relying on 2 rookies to fill that role immediately.

It probably is in their best interest to tank after the All Star break to get their "core" out on the floor together so they see how Kyrie/Waiters/Tristan/Zeller look on the floor as a unit and evaluate how a high draft pick will help them. Maybe even trade Varejao while his value is at its highest to get back some more pieces for their rebuilding process.

Miami
NYK
Boston
BKN
Indiana

5 teams that will definately make the playoffs.

Chicago - no Derrick Rose
Orlando - Dwight Howard drama?
Philly - More quality depth, lost veteran prescence/leader

3 teams that made playoffs but have some question marks. Orlando being the biggest question mark because if Dwight Howard is traded? Chances are it'll be a rebuilding roster. If he stays just even til trade deadline? They win games by default.

Wash

1 teams that is talented and could make a legitimate push to the postseason. Wash adding some veterans in Ariza/Okafor and throw in Nene. They got rid of the dumb, in with some smart guys who know their role. Could John Wall emerge?

I dont see where the Cavs fit in any of this unless injuries occur.

I would like one more year of sucking, then get our feet wet in the playoffs. Also, lineup will probably be more like.........

Kyrie
Waiters
Miles
Tristan
Andy

Boobie, Casspi, Zeller, Samuels and Sloan will be the main bench rotation.

he can come in an be a veteran on this team, yet he is so young that he will fit in as well.

Far from a playoff team imo. Nobody on that squad can take the scoring load off Irving. Waiters and Zeller are both rookies and probably both will struggle(Waiters can very well be a bust). Who's their #2 option? Anderson Varejao?

I didn't like their recent draft history besides Irving and Zeller. Imagine if they drafted Jonas V and Harrison Barnes instead..

Kyrie

Barnes
Varejao
Jonas V

much better lineup and a much better future. Thompson and Waiters both look like busts to me imo

jonas V could very well be a bust

and i believe ISH was split 50/50 on whether Barnes will be good or be the next marvin williams

what we do know is that in chad fords redraft of the 2011 draft kyrie went number 1 and thompson went number 2....

and ever scout gave cleveland a great grade on this years draft.

Cause Jonas is really showing how spectacular he is during these olympics  The hype of Jonas is just unreal.

I'd take TT over Kanter and Derrick Williams. Waiters and Barnes haven't played a NBA game yet so the jury is still out. Waiters came off an ankle injury into summer league and was obviously out of shape. And how is TT exactly a bust?

Kurosawa0
08-03-2012, 03:56 PM
Probably not a playoff team. Miami, Boston, Indiana, New York, New Jersey and Philly should all certainly be better. Chicago is questionable because of Rose's injury, but I think they'll still make it in. Cleveland probably fights it out with Atlanta, Milwaukee, Washington and maybe Toronto for the final spot, but even if they could make the playoffs, would you want them to?

I'd want another high pick.

I'd bet that Gee will start over Miles. In fact, I wouldn't be shocked if Miles began the season as the starter at the 2 until Dion gets his feet wet. Also, Tristan will be starting this season. You can bank on that.

I like this signing. It seems that CJ really wanted to play for Byron Scott from everything I'm reading, which is a good sign. Scott is a taskmaster, so I hope CJ is ready. Then again, he played under Jerry Sloan for years, so...

Anyway, the particulars on this deal haven't been released yet. I'm assuming we didn't give up much, so I think this is a nice step. You always like to add young talent when possible. Miles certainly has talent.

Oh yes... Just imagine if, instead of the two unproven guys that we currently have on the roster, one of which hasn't played a single game in the NBA, we had two different unproven guys on the roster, neither of whom have played a single NBA game yet.

Just think of it!

This team is loaded with young talent. We'll see how these guys perform together. Calling out the Cavs before you've even seen the product that they've put together seems a little ridiculous to me.

Btw, I'm hearing the deal is 2 years starting at $2.5 million. Not bad.

lolz...no way. Kyrie, Waiters, nor Miles will be able to drive in the paint with TT and Andy there. They will have to start someone at the 4 that can stretch the floor and TT can't do that.

All joking aside, this is a very solid signing for Cleveland. Not an earth-shattering, contending-making signing - BUT VERY SOLID.

Miles has been very steady most of his career and has been especially good against us. This is a player who has had some big NBA games. He has a career high of 40 points.

On top of that, NBA free agents who have the chance to sign with the Lakers or the Mavs or the....and sign with us? That just doesn't happen. And then I read that he did so for a little less money and because of recent time he spent with Byron Scott? Laker fan on here thankful that they didn't sign him only say that because they are used to signing stars.

Adding Miles is a solid piece to the plan. Saturday is off to a good start.

You are overrating CJ. He is extremely inconsistent. His defense is average at best. The only upside is that there is a possibility he can break out, especially on a team like the Cavs. He is still pretty young. But if you get the CJ we have seen for the past 7 years, you will be dissapointed. I hope he does well though, but I just don't see it.

If you are right, it will be like water off a duck's back for us Cleveland fans. Anymore, we're just calloused to it. Hell...I've been watching Johnny Damon in left field all spring and summer.

I'm optimistic because he has had a season of 12 ppg and he does have an NBA high of 40. His ppg over a 36 mpg situation is 15.6. I like two things about him: his energy and his athleticism. He has played hard when I've watched the Jazz - to the point where I noticed him.

Let's just keep it at "this is a better pickup than we are used to" and stop there.

Casspi has never been better than C.J. to me. Casspi sucked as last season even though he got the chance to start and eventually got benched for Gee. Huge disappointment. Lauer over Samuels is understandable, but also Samuels played the best out of all the Cavaliers in the Summer League in-my-opinion.

Probably would have to include draft picks, or at least a good quality player that is a border-line star.
Which was my point that he really didn't have a point. If you have to include a bunch of draft picks, the picks actually become the cornerstone of the deal, not necessarily the player.

And, I love Anderson. He's been playing really well for Brazil, too. If he could play a complete season at the level he was at prior to his injury last year, THEN we could conceivably get something very nice in return.

I'd say the first thing, though, is him proving that he can stay healthy for a whole season while logging big minutes.

Anyway, back to CJ Miles... I think this was a very nice pickup, the more I think about it. A little over $2 million and a two year contract... even if he fizzles out, it is the kind of contract that won't stop us from doing anything we were going to do anyway. And he has lots of potential and is still young.

Love that move.

it is unfortunate. Casspi has a lot of natural ability and skill. Not sure what the deal is, but same thing happened to him in Sac. And I thought he was the Kings' best overall player at the time when his mins were inconsistent and he ended up getting traded (could really do everything). He just wasn't consistent enough I guess. :confusedshrug:

As for Cavs, I like what they're doing. I don't see them making playoffs this year, but they'll be in the discussion. Ultimately, Kyrie + Waiters + Zeller + Tristan = playoff team in a few years if they all reach their full potential.

Irving and almost anyone should be a playoff team before long especially in the east.
