I go to the University of Minnesota-Duluth so I'm 3 hours away from the Target Center.

Before moving here I grew up 15 minutes away from the Target Center and I will be relocating there once I graduate. (3 hour drive to see Wolves games sucks.. still managed to see 10 games last season)

If you don't live near your team, let us know where you're at (even if it's not in the U.S. )

Ya that's a lame downside for sure. Especially if you're used to $5 tickets in the lower court or something (Wolves do that for students on Mondays-Wed, I love it. College section gets ROWDY. If you ever hear howling when opposing teams are taking free throws, it's a bunch of drunk college kids heckling lol.

I live on the Gold Coast Australia, and before you have a fit, yes i'm a Knicks fan. Im 19 and in September 2010 my parents took my family across Vegas, Orlando & New York. Never got to see a Knicks game due to the time of year but I loved the states so much I saved my ass off to get back their and did in December of last year.

Luckily for me I gambled that the lockout was going to end in time and managed to get to the Knicks first Preseason game at Prudential Center against the nets. Didn't get to see a game in MSG  but I did catch Iman Shumpert & Tyson Chandler's first outing in a Knicks uniform. So I got to see Iman do a trademark breakaway steal & layup on D-Will and the first of many Tyson Chandler alley oops.

Will definitely be back in 2014 when i'm 21 and will be getting as many games in at The Garden as possible.

I think it's funny that fans believe living where their team is something to be proud of. More than anything, it proves you have been sucked into a hype machine without making your own decision.

I think college teams are good to follow if you went there or live where it is, but NBA teams? It's accepting the bare minimum. Obviously, it's cool to go to the games, and it would be odd to dislike the team that you were near, but to force yourself and like them and their players because you live there and everyone else does it? Doesn't seem like something to be proud of to me...

Wait so it's better to be a bandwagon fan because they get to make their own decision? Lol. That's a new one. I'm suuure a majority of fans that root for teams not near them were not swayed by hype. That makes perfect sense. Using your own criteria the only people that can be proud and people that pick crap teams that aren't near them.

I rep my home teams because they represent my city and it's where I've lived all my life. Good or bad they represent the city and I represent them. If they suck I have no problem saying they suck. I have that luxury because I'm not some bandwagoner that's only there for one specific era of players. When I talk about the sports teams I follow the phrase "used to" never comes in to play.

So tell me what is there to be more proud of in not accepting the bare minimum and repping some random team that you have no connection to. A team that you only really know about because of their hype?

Lol, seriously.

That is a very odd position to me and one that I think can only come from someone who didn't grow up near professional sports teams. I'm not a fan of the teams solely "because they're close" or "because I want to be like everyone else."

I'm a fan because my father began taking me to Cavs, Browns and Indians games when I was a very young child... And his dad took him to Browns and Indians games (there were no Cavs back then) when he was young. When you grow up in a city where sports are an important aspect of the culture, it is a generational thing that is passed down from father/mother to son/daughter.

There is no point where you consciously make the decision, "I'll just go with this team, I guess." I mean, I guess I could have switched allegiances at some point, but why? These teams are engrained in the culture and they are one of the last things that truly brings the community together... Be it father/son, young/old, rich/poor, etc.

I guess I should apologize for accepting the "bare minimum," eh? There is much more to be proud of with picking a random team that you have no association with just because they win or you like the colors or there is a guy on the team you have a crush on or whatever... That's the way to go.

Doesn't seem like something to be proud of to me...

...What!?:oldlol: :oldlol:

Because it's definitely not possible to be a fan of the team thats in the same area you was born and raised in.

I live across the bridge from the Warriors, but in a few years they'll be in my city

I can take the monorail straight to Oracle and see the Warriors in 35 min. If they are actually good this year, it's gonna be sick!
