Nash is a passer though :confusedshrug:
So Kobe could be an even better scorer next year maybe

Kobe just needs to get back to an efficient 55 TS% atleast.

And I agree with Westbrook being up there. He's been really underrated and hated on the past season even though he's been scoring well.

I don't think he'll be top 5 in ppg...Nash spreads it around

he'll prolly be top 5 or better in the playoffs, but Nash is going to save a lot of Kobe's energy, and extend his career IMO

5th place last year averaged 23.6 ppg (Westbrook)
Kobe's atleast going to average 24. The dude loves to shoot.

I see high 20s in the playoffs, but I think he'll be sub-24 for the regular season

beating his career high (06-07) .580 TS% is def in play though

I also think WB's ppg is going up (to the detriment of OKC)

lol @ Durant over Lebron... if Lebron cared even slightly about leading the league in scoring (or took at least as many FG attempts as Durant) then he would...

Yes Durant is a better shooter, but Lebron is better at putting the ball in the hoop... especially when it matters (in the playoffs)...

He does all this while worrying about facilitating, being a point-forward... unlike Durant who is there with one thing in his mind only...

Well that's just an opinion, isn't it ? How do you know LeBron doesn't care ?

And it's not like Durant is taking THAT many more shots than LeBron.

Yes Durant is a better shooter, but Lebron is better at putting the ball in the hoop... especially when it matters (in the playoffs)...

And Durant doesn't know how to score in the playoffs ?

Funny, I could have sworn he put 29ppg on 52/37/86 this year, as well outscoring Bron in the Finals with better efficiency too:

KD: 31ppg on 55/39/84
LB: 29ppg on 47/19/83

He does all this while worrying about facilitating, being a point-forward... unlike Durant who is there with one thing in his mind only...

Yeah, that one thing is what were discussing in the thread. Not who's more versatile in being an offensive player.

There is like a weird divide with Durant. Statistically, he's an awesome scorer but when I'm thinking who's scariest scorers out there, I don't fear him even though he can and has taken over games in spectacular fashion.

You cant deny him a spot on the list, but he's not in my top three.

I've got people like:

Wade
Kobe
Melo

ahead of him even though rationally that would make no sense going strictly off the numbers, but I watch the game and I'm not impressed. Durant is giving up if you deny him the ball hard. Force him out of his spot and he's nowhere near as effective. It seems like he has a set plan in his head and when the defender takes away an option, it's really detrimental to his game.

Wade/Kobe/Melo just seem so fluid and unstoppable as scorers. Anywhere on the floor these guys need to be watched. Melo especially. This guy has the whole package. Very, very few have an arsenal as large as Melo's. This guy can and will kill you from anywhere and at any time, but the stats don't back up my feelings since that these guys over the past year haven't been anywhere near as efficient as Durant.

So I'm left feeling conflicted.

My top 5, in no order, goes

James
Bryant
Durant
Rose (when he is healthy)

and either nowitzki, westbrook, or wade after them

All of these guys get theirs pretty consistently. Kobe gets a lot of flak for his shooting sometimes, which is alright, but I think people fail to realize Kobe is a scorer, he gets more defensive attention geared towards him because of both his actual current scoring ability and reputation as a scorer.

Edit: I forgot melo. He's a good scorer but fawking inconsistent.

Mentally, defenders would rather the rest of the Lakers burn them than Kobe lighting them up.

Kobe also sees more perimeter double/triple teams than anyone else in the league. His 2nd and third options are good players, but they are post oriented. At least Durant has westbrook, lebron has wade, etc

It will be very interesting to see if Kobe is really falling off, or he just isn't athletic enough to beat double and triple teams like he used to be able to. Adding a ball handler like Nash to the starting lineup is going to do more for Kobe than I think most people realize

Also I'd probably put Durant at number one, currently, if I had to rank scorers. Dude can shoot from anywhere and finish awesome too with that wingspan. It's too bad his lanky body is so hard to put muscle on, I hope he can do it.

And if Lebron was much of a chucking lunatic like Kobe was, defenses would play him much differently. Lebron sets up his scoring with his passing.

The only reason why Lebron is a worse scorer than Durant to me is because he isn't as good of a shooter and that's literally it it. Jordan - 30.1
Wilt - 30.1

Yeah, for sure.

Wear and tear will get to the guy and he won't be this great anymore and he will be playing less minutes and taking less shots when he's older so his average will take a hit.

RRR3
08-05-2012, 11:56 PM
I'm pretty sure LeBron has the most 50+ games of anyone active besides kobe. Lbj has 9 iirc. He's won a scoring title, led playoffs in scoring twice, and averaged 30+ twice. Active players to average 30 are lbj Kobe wade durant and tmac. People take bron for granted as a scorer it's ridiculous. And he is a shoot first player come on bron is unselfish but he looks to score first because that's usually his teams best option

Freedom Kid7

Iverson - 29.7
West - 29.1
James - 28.5
Durant - 28.1

Durant being weighed down by his rookie season and first playoff appearance are the only reason he is behind James. His numbers will continue to climb as those numbers start to be less of a factor as he gains a bigger sample size.

Durant is far more efficient than James through 5 years in their career while scoring at an equal rate

Now LeBron is very clearly the 2nd best scorer in the league, but he has NO argument over Durant and their head to head numbers over the past 2 years prove that. LeBron has been simply outclassed

Legends66NBA7

I honestly think LeBron is the best. The numbers he puts up are already spectacular, and he has so many other responsibilities, and plays such intensive defense. He fills up the stat sheet so completely, it's incredible to think about the kind of scoring numbers he could put up if he focused only on that the way guys like Durant and Carmelo do. Say, if he could play with a legit, set-the-table point guard like Nash or Rondo.

His overall talent is really mind boggling.

Westbrook also gets nod. Tremendous efficiency and timeliness for a scoring PG.

You should go back sucking Barkley's dick some more because you have no idea what you're talking about.

Durant's ability to score how he does and in the way he does is unparalleled in the league. You literally have to defend him at the 25 feet from the basket when he doesn't even have the ball. This essentially lets his team play 4 on 4 when on offense.
I've never posted about Barkley since joining this forum.

I have Durant at the top of my list, but that kid is such a weird player.I'll be watching a game and I'll be thinking he hasn't made a bucket and somehow he has 30.

He really doesn't seem to influence games like the others to be honest.

But the thing is he can actually create his own shot if neccesary so he gets that respect guys like Love don't.

I would take Dirk,Kobe and Melo over him without hesitation, but I kinda have to respect those numbers and the fact that he can close. He gets less defensive focus though, Westbrook at the moment collapses defenses better than anyone else in the league.

Yes it is and it's career ppg, he is behind only MJ and Wilt.

Jordan - 30.1
Wilt - 30.1
James - 27.6
Baylor - 27.4
West - 27.0

And he is 4th in Playoffs all time.

Jordan - 33.5
Iverson - 29.7
West - 29.1
James - 28.5
Durant - 28.1
and Wilt was not even in the top 10 in the playoffs..What a choker..

I'd still go Kobe #1, a couple of scoring titles means nothing against a full career's body of work.
Too bad we live in the present, not past. That's like if I said Shaq is currently the most dominant player in the league. Or if I said Tracy McGrady is a good player.

He is. Behind Wilt and MJ.

Playoffs, I think he's 4th or 5th right now.

I'm more interested in where LBJ is after comparing his numbers to the great scorers after their 9th season, not their career averages.

Well, ranking 9th all-time after 9 seasons is still very impressive.

since people are split on whether to use # of seasons played or age as the primary cumulative criterion, here's the corresponding list for all guys through their age-27 seasons (27 at the midpoint of the season):

LeBron's still 9th, so I guess it didn't make much of a difference
