No people who say that believe that the dude just took shot after shot to the detriment of his team with no regards to playing in a team setting, without understanding WHY he did what he did and WHY he shot the numbers and percentages that he did. If i looked purely at stats it would tell me that a guy like Kevin Durant is a FAR better scorer than Iverson was, but the eye test (me seeing the entire careers of both players) tells me that that is complete BS.

they don't look at the era he played in, the absolutely abysmal offensive squads he's played on, and how Larry Brown essentially told Iverson to shoot as much as needed because the team was NOT going to win playing any other way.

They just look at his stats and see 33ppg on 41 FG% or whatever and think "OH inneficient chucker!"
Basketball is not baseball and it will NEVER be that, stats never lie, but they dont EVER tell the whole story.

While I realize that Shot-Selection is a part of Basketball IQ, its ridiculous to say Kobe has a low Basketball IQ. Other proponents also make-up basketball IQ, things that Kobe is golden in. Reading defenses, knowing how certain teams will play your guys, defensive instinct (Kobe had great defensive instincts, particularly when he was younger), understanding the game-styles of both players and teams, understanding what to do to beat certain teams, etc.

I don't think those proponents should be thrown out the door simply because Kobe doesn't excel at picking and choosing when to take shots. I definitely understand that and leave him accountable for it, but the guy is obviously one of the great basketball minds of the game. A 16-year veteran. Lets not get too carried away here.

He did that the entire olympics
He did that the entire season/playoffs and most of his career (SG, SF, PF is a walk on the park for him right now, PGs he easily defends very well to, the nastiest/tallest Centers he has the most trouble with, but that doesnt mean he is not effective there, he kept fronting, ragdolling, battling and denying Dwight & Gasol the ball each time he tried this year for example)

On a international level its even more of a piece of cake (Olympics, FIBA)...

He has the excellent combination of size, strength, speed, quickness and defensive IQ... and he uses it to the max... and on top of that with the addition of his skills like ballhandling, scoring, shooting, moves, post, passing, vision, etc and he can do the same even more easier offensively, dominate 5 positions.... he can be your:
24-7-10 PG
35-7-6 SG
30-7-7 SF
30-10-6 PF/C

and defensively guard all positions...
