Welcome to the Official '92 Dream Team @ '12 Team USA Gamethread!

I've made a 12-min quarter HoF simulation in 2K12 for this game and the result came out waaaaay better than I thought it would...

So, I've captured it in HD for the rest of you to enjoy!!

I'll post the YouTube links for the quarters as I upload them.
And the complete box scores for the game once all are up!

Any guesses / predictions to how this game went?

Kobe shoots alot?
Chris Paul flops?
Jordan puts his tounge out?
Barkley says something controversial?
Lebron dances?
Bird hurts his back?
and Magic infects everybody.....

...with laughter of course.

Well, usually 2K12 simulations suck in terms of producing an actually watchable game, so I'm guessing this one was one of the rare ones that actually looks like a basketball game.

Big men in the game rarely average their numbers or have much effect at all, I've found (unless you're controlling them and actively pound the ball in the post play after play). So, I would guess big games for the wing players, especially those who can shoot (and get hot) like Durant, Melo, and Mullin.

Defense is totally irrelevant in 2K12, as the offensive player can just phase right through the defensive line if the shot clock is low enough.

All in all, I think the '12 team might have actually won this one, or at least kept it really close. If it's a one possession game and clutch factor is turned on, I can see Jordan or Kobe winning the game for their respective team.

This is usually the came, but trust me, this time it went VERY well.

A prolific scorer went cold most of the game due to opposing defense.

Many steals and nice blocks.

One team moves the ball way better than the other...

1st quarter is nearly done uploading, file size is gigantic sorry.

Surprsingly damn good 1st quarter. A little lack of creativity on the offensive end from both sides (why not post Magic up from time to time on those tiny guards?) but overall, it played out nicely.

As others are saying. It's not perfect, but still the differences in the playing style are very clear.

92USA has waaaay better passing and their post scorers are more skilled.
12USA is way more athletic and ISO-centered.

And MJ is MJ... :)

Jordan and Durant

This.

Durant should have been getting these touches during the first quarter as well. Looks like computer Team USA finally figured that out. Things have a tendency to not translate very well over quarters in 2k12, though. Hopefully this trend continues into the second half. Team USA could do with some more outside game. Trying to beat the Dream Team with an inside approach is basically a futile endeavor.

True. When LeBron tries to go inside he runs into the likes of Ewing and the Admiral
But them passes he gives out to KD and the others...

Even in this simple sim, him and Magic are so alike...

Good job, Omnistrife!

I posted this on the first quarter clip:

Not bad. A couple of inaccuracies: Unibrow never see floor time unless it's a blowout.

Westbrook isn't the backup PG- he's Bryant's backup. Deron Williams is the PG backup. Plus KLove plays backup center while LBJ is the nominal big forward.

So your rotation needs tweaking to properly reflect the actual coach's philosophy.

Love it, 2012 team leads the fast break while the Dream Team is killing it with MJ and the post, sounds pretty realistic just goes to show what an amazing game 2k did when it's so close to real life (and they didn't make the game overnight it's a 13-year game and every year it get's upgraded).

08-19-2012, 01:54 PM
Yeah, one thing I noticed from watching the first couple of quarters is the 2012 team never plays their actual most common lineups. Who knows, maybe they'd be forced to play two bigs at all times to counter the Dream Team's frontcourt, but I'd think one advantage the 2012 would try to create is going small with LeBron, Durant, or Carmelo at the four, and pulling one of the Dream Team bigs away from the basket to defend.

And ppl wonder if 12 team can beat the 92 team

They couldn't.

The 12 team was exposed repeatedly by faaaaaaaaaar lesser teams, with nowhere near the Dream Team's talent.

I think the Dream Team would be getting dunk after dunk after dunk vs the 12 team, mostly due to the pick and roll and ball movement. The 12's team main asset was their pressure up top, but that will actually get exposed by the Dream Team.

The 12 team got most of their assists and buckets from drives and kick backs, again, this will basically get cut in half, and even most of those shots will be contested.

The 12's biggest weapons are Bron on defense and Durant on offense. I think this simulation did a pretty good job at how Magic and Bird would be used on defense. They wouldn't get killed how most people imagine them to be, and Bird could be more effective than what many also believe (although not as much as the game displayed).

I think Pip is right…. Dream Team wins by an avg of 25 points. There's too many weapons, much higher IQ and experience, and too deep inside.

THIS!!!

I know it may be a lot of trouble but, if you'd be willing, I think simming out a seven game series between the two would be pretty neat. You could start over, and adjust the rotations and rosters to make Westbrook a SG, LeBron a PF, Durant and Melo's secondary position PF, etc. That would be the easy part; I'm guessing it takes forever to load the videos to Youtube and I don't know how difficult the process is.

This makes me really wish I had 2K12 on PC, though. You can get the '92 Dream Team and 2012 Team USA via 2K Share, but with awful generic uniforms.

bmd
08-19-2012, 03:33 PM
Not realistic. The 2012 team is not wearing the uniforms they wore in London, therefore, this game is invalid.

12 Kobe wasnt the closer LBJ and KD were.

Yeah, anyone who watched the Olympics can tell you that. Kobe played like shit.

But this isn't real life, it's 2K12. And in that game, if clutch factor is turned on, Kobe doesn't miss shit if the game is on the line. Moreover, if you have a good open shot and Kobe happens to be standing around you, not even contesting, you'll probably miss that shot.

Who's gonna stop their bigs?

The 12 team couldn't defend the pick and roll on a consistent basis, at times they were utterly useless against it. Gasol was playing like a f*ckin GOD, dude was feasting out there.

You had a no name nobodies pg running game on the 12 team, with no name big men destroying them at will at times.

Don't see what's so funny.

Laettner is 6'10 that can pass, shot and is smart. You think he's gonna play small?

We're also talking about a game play situation in which they won't be running the offense through him. He'll more than likely give screens and spot up for jumpers. He's smart enough to play with his back to the basket to maximize his size. Also, he won't be the only big on the court, and won't be the only threat to worry about.

So Bron played good denial defense on Gasol in spurts

It depends on the roster maker but, just going off the 2K rosters for the 2012 guys, the only two that would be in the 70s are Chandler and Davis. Then you'd have four guys in the 90s in LeBron, Kobe, Durant, and Paul.

Anyway, when you compare the benches, especially in this type of situation where everyone is healthy, then the '92 team has a considerable bench advantage.

I mean you're comparing prime Stockton, Pippen, Drexler, Malone, Ewing, and Mullin to CP3, Deron, Love, Melo, Iggy, and Harden.

Half the sh1t in 2k doesn't matter lol, and thats part of the reason i stopped playing against the comp in 2k. They either drive and phase through my player whose standing directly between them and the rim, or they hit some miracle fadeaway over my outstretched arm.
