:applause:
Let's put it this way: The gap between Bird's ability in terms of passing/playmaking/court vision compared to Magic's isn't nearly as large as Magic's scoring/shooting in comparison to Bird, who was also a better rebounder and elite in all the aforementioned categories. Arguably even a better defender as well. Peak Larry Bird - Over 5 Years - was a 27/10/7 on 50/40/90 player.

I'd like to hear a case as to why Wilt is better than Magic, Bird, Shaq, Kobe, and Duncan.
Wilt--2 Titles/2 FMVP/4 MVP/13 All-Star Teams/10 All-NBA Teams
Magic--5 Titles/3 FMVP/3 MVP/12 All-Star teams/10 All-NBA Teams
Bird--3 Titles/2 FMVP/3 MVP/12 All-Star Teams/9 All-NBA Teams
Shaq--4 Titles/3 FMVP/1 MVP/15 All-Star Teams/14 All-NBA Teams
Kobe--5 Titles/2 FMVP/1 MVP/14 All-Star Teams/14 All-NBA Teams
Duncan--4 Titles/3 FMVP/2 MVP/13 All-Star Teams/13 All-NBA Teams
And before anyone uses the teammate excuse as to why Wilt didn't win as much as they did:
Wilt lost 5 Playoff series with Home Court Advantage
Wilt lost in 4 out 6 NBA Finals series
Wilt has played with 7 Hall of Fame players
Wilt has played with 6 of the Top 50 Greatest Players in NBA History as selected in 1996

Then why did he not win a championship in '69 and '70 when he had argaubly the best player in the NBA, Jerry West?
Here were Jerry's averages those 2 years:
1969 NBA Playoffs: 30.9 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 7.5 apg, 46.3 FG%
1969 NBA Finals: 37.9 ppg (2nd highest ever in an NBA Finals series)
1969 NBA Finals, Game 7: 42-13-12
1970 NBA Playoffs: 31.2 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 8.4 apg, 46.9 FG%
1970 NBA Finals: 31.3 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 7.7 apg, 45.0 FG%

Shaq, Hakeem, and Duncan > Magic too then, just going off this. And I wouldn't mind listening to the arguments either.
Or are we just basing this off of "HURRRR DURR MAGIC GOTZ FIVE RANGZZZZZ DOEEEEE!"
Dude, do you just press the caps lock and spread the stupid shit to just get attention or do you just think Magic's career, legacy, production, and impact on the game is just off 5 rings and a total of 9 NBA Finals apperances ? Just curious (Even though, I'm pretty sure you were just trolling). :oldlol:
By going off just production, you can make the case Magic is a better playoff performer and more than has a case over Wilt as a better Finals performer.
See I didn't even argue anything else, just what they did in the big moments.

Magic keeps getting better the more people dont actually remember him. Wilt seems to have the opposite going on. Amusing to see....
And for the record I have no issue with someone calling Magic #4 all time. Or #1 for that matter. Hes on a level im not fighting anyone over if they say hes better than anyone.
I just...find it funny. Magic was NOT this highly ranked back in the day. Ive seen articles posted from people saying he was the second best Johnson in the league after Kevin in the late 80s, and clearly remember who I think was doug moe on CBS saying Moncrief was just as good. And I know I remember Mike fratello putting Bernard King over Magic. I watched a video on the 82 Lakers and in the comments people were calling Magic the GOAT. In 82 he was behind Gus williams, Gervin, Parish, and Moncrief in MVP voting. Gus and Gervin ahead of him on the all NBA teams.
But 30 years later hes better than Larry Bird, Wilt, and people were saying Russell too.
I will say for the record he was just underrated at the time.
But still. Strikes me as odd.

It is because he broke out and started coming on to his own in the late 80s, not the early 80s.
That is when he started getting his recognition but Jordan was emerging too so he didn't ge tthat much hype.

you'd think so, but this isn't always the case:
http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showpost.php?p=7709144&postcount=16
the leading minority in a plurality vote won't always win successive run-offs, since a segmented subset of the population might have different tendencies from the rest of the voters (particular with a smaller sample, though you also see this on broader scales, occasionally)
you really need to hold different votes for each rank

Bird was cleaning Magic's clock for the most part from an individual standpoint up until his back problems really began to surface on a consistent, debilitating basis. After that, you could make a pretty strong case for Jordan and/or Barkley for the 1989/1990 MVP's that Magic added to his resume, particularly 1990. Everybody knows the deal with the 1980 Finals MVP. It was Bird who swept up all of the Player of the Year awards their final seasons in college (AP, Naismith, John Wooden, Adolph Rupp, etc), Bird who won the NBA Rookie of the Year the following season, made All-NBA 1st Team and placed 4th in MVP voting (Magic was not in the top ten), Bird who won three consecutive NBA MVP's from 1984-86 before Magic even got his first. On and on...
If Wilt takes this, I've got a feeling I may be reposting this in the #5 thread.

Expect "Dung Bunglin' tool" to rig the voting to make sure Wilt remains out fo the top 5:lol
The more I learn about Bird, the more I think maybe he should be over Magic...Lakers fans are relentless of course.
I have been voting Bird since number 2.

I haven't actually placed a vote on one of these forum consensus experiments yet, but that will change when we get to #5.

Am I the only one that feels that Shaq isn't getting enough consideration for the Top 5 ?

Well, I'm sure Bird is going to get a lot of votes for #5.
Thats true I'd just 'expect him to get a lot more votes for number 4 then...I just dont get how so little people can vote for him as number 4...wilt being so close...but then number 5 a storm of Bird votes quadrupling what he got prior......but you are right hes getting a lot of 5 votes!

Probably because the people that voted for Magic are probably going to mostly vote Bird.
