I don't think he did enough as a Mav to be retired. To me (ironic i say this as he wears a Knick jersey), he's a Net.

Why would any team retire his jersey? He was a great player for a few years but he's not an all time great, I guess anyone can get their jersey retired nowadays.

His jersey will be retired by the Nets. He holds a lot of records for us.

It'll be great to see his number hanging in the rafters at the Prudential Center.:cheers:

Wow. I think that he should have his jerse retired in Dallas. But with Cuban being such an interesting person, I would rather have my jersey retired with the Nets. Hopefully they appreciate J-Kidd more than Dallas does.

He's a first ballot hall of famer, clearly he'll get his jersey retired.

He'll get his jersey retired as a net. It's only right considering he was the best pg in the leauge whiles he player on their team and delivered them to 2 straight finals.

Kidd's best years were obviously in NJ. Dallas Kidd is like one tenth of NJ Kidd.

Why is this even a question?

His number will be retired by NJ.

According to mark, kidds name won't be there because he left to NY. Mark is bitter. It has nothing to do with his contributions. He even said jet is probable too. The entire article is devoted to kidds "bitter" departure.:oldlol:

as usual, this kid has no understanding. He was an all time great NET. List 5 more important players to that franchise to date?

Magic Johnson was a joke defensively, he should not be talking about Jason Kidd.

It's not even like Magic had a jump shot or was some sort of versatile scorer anyway :roll:

unreal...

kidd played 8 years in Dallas

1995 = 11/8/5 ( rookie of the year )
1996 = 16/10/7 ( Allstar )
1997 = 10/9/4
2008 = 10/9/6 ( Allstar )
2009 = 9/9/6
2010 = 10/9/5 ( Allstar )
2011 = 8/8/4 ( NBA Champion )
2012 = 6/5/4

that added to his HOF total career

while I agree that Kidd did more in Dallas than many here seem to remember, those two All Star appearances in his second Dallas run are kind of a joke.

The first was b/c he was voted in the East with the Nets. It may as well have been a lifetime achievement award.

The second was b/c a freak ice storm hit Dallas when we hosted the ASG causing a player (injury replacement I think) to be unable to make it in. Kidd just happened to be in town and was willing to play.

Jason Kidd wore 5 during his first 3 years in Dallas. His second stint he was a good player, but never the same.

The year he got traded to the Mavs, he made it as a Net and he was easily deserving. He was one of the top players in the league in the first half of the year. The team just sucked.

I wouldn't retire #2...#5 would be cool tho. I wonder if the Suns would retire #32...he was 1st Team All-NBA and led the league in assists 3 seasons in a row there...and he should have made the All-NBA 3rd Team another year. Made 3 all-star games as a Sun (would have been 4, if not for the lockout).

But it's rough to have a guy's jersey retired in so many places. The Nets tho...come on. Him and Dr. J...who else?

LOL Bowen played 750+ games for the Spurs, including 3 championship runs... besides what does the Spurs internal decisions have to do with the Mavericks? Franchises don't have some common standard for retiring jerseys - obviously. Kidd could be argued more important for the Nets than the Mavs, you can't say that about Bowen who will undoubtedly be remembered as a Spur and still has ties to the city of SA.

That would be great :lol

He only played two full seasons in the first stint and he was well past his prime during his second stint. His jersey will most certainly be retired by the Nets and only the Nets.

but he's not an all time great

You don't seem to know anything about basketball.

I know you're young, and by virtue of being inexperienced, you don't have the understanding and knowledge that other people have, but damn, think before you open your mouth.

Nets should..

If only Jason Kidd Nets beat the Spurs back in 2003 to win the championship, I can see him a top 3 pg of all time easily..

lol'd at this. Though it's not as authoratative or considered an authentic historical source if you don't post it on a picture the quoter. I think it's most reliable of all if it's being said in a speech bubble.

As for Kidd's Jersey it won't get retired in Dallas (or certainly it would be unlikely to) and that is fair. His #5 would be more worthy of having but is hardly a reminder of glorious era and he hadn't hit his prime. Hanging #2 would just be done if they were retiring everyone from the title team (Dirk obviously it will happen anyway, but Jet, Chandler, Marion and Kidd don't have either great longevity or elite superstar play that should be required to raised to the rafters). The Nets is the franchise most associated with Kidd he peaked there and played longest there and there his jersey should be retired.

Interesting anyway the Cuban essentially sees the main reason right now that he wouldn't do it is because he's mad and that it's a temporary thing
