Like I said in the thread last week, 2K has been the superior game between the two arguably since 2006, definitely since 2007. And, it will remain that way until EA just waves the white flag.

Stick to Madden.

Absolutely not. 2K makes far better football games. All Pro Football 2K8 completely destroys Madden 12 in terms of gameplay, and that game came out 5 ****ing years ago.

Well it should look horrible at this point. Instead of working on the live 10 engine which was a solid base, and one of the biggest leaps from 09 to 10, they decide to redo everything and have a completley differnt game for 2011, and it clearly didn't pay off.

The Important part is they have to release a game, and build up from it. 2k's nba game is a heavyweight just like Ea's Nhl, and it's impossible to expect to compete in one year, it has to be a long term project in which they build up a base rather than just restarting everytime their game doesn't sell as much as 2k.

no pun intended

Yung D-Will
08-21-2012, 06:43 PM
Madden would be a much better game if it actually had competion, it's blatently clearly that the team has gotten complacent.

I think what that poster should have said, is simply that Ea has dominated NHL games to the point where 2k discontinued the franchise because of lack of sales, similar to what 2k Basketball did to nba elite in 11/12.

First of all, it might be a pretty recent build. Don't believe everything EA says, because they're full of shit most of the time. Not to mention every team was available to be played and I think I even saw that dynasty mode was available. I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure early builds of games usually have pretty limited menu options. Secondly, do you really think the game is going to sky rocket and become dramatically better than what we saw in that gameplay footage? Sorry, but it's not. The core mechanics of the game looked completely broken in that footage. That indicates that the final game will probably be bad.

And this is EA. They haven't made a good basketball game in years.

All-Pro Football 2K8 was a football game. It was a darkhorse title because EA bought the NFL license, thus preventing other companies from making their own NFL games. 2K decided to use fictional teams made up of NFL legends. I personally couldn't get past the non-NFL part, but the gameplay was outstanding (as was NFL 2K5's, often lauded as the best NFL video game of all-time). EA bought the exclusive NFL license after NFL 2K5.

This is nearly two years of work. And this is all they come up with? TWO YEARS?

I doubt this is the final build, but it doesn't mean anything. It's something they say when their testers give them alot of negative shit for the crappy product they make them play-through. The 2K13 they showed at Gamescon was 100x (no exxageration) better than this, and their latest delevor insights they have been putting out is nearly a completely different game. That was barely three months of a difference, these guys took two years to come up with the same basic shitty product. Take a hint?

It's not a pre alpha build. That's EA's cover-up just in case the vid was poorly received, and it was. Pre alpha builds don't have all teams, all modes, and online connectivity.

Shit, they may have leaked the video on purpose to test the waters and see how they will go about releasing the game if at all. If we hate it, it's an early build. If we dig it, then they create some hype.

Just because the video game out now doesn't mean that's what the game looks like now. They could be much closer to finishing. But according to everyone that saw it at E3 it looked shitty. People are speculating that this is going to be a budget download only title.

This 'thing' isn't even worth commenting, I think they are being realistic and they know they can't compete with nba2k so they'll release a half-product at 20$ with crappy graphics and sub-par gameplay, and will probably sell only 30 copies total.

Lol Bullshit. Don't believe everything EA's marketing department tells you, they either want to cancel the release or simply release the game download only without any footage shown beforehand. So they are pissed real footage leaked, saying it's not even an alpha is just textbook damage control.

And even if it's a couple of months old: this title has been in development for between two and three times as long as a regular sports release. The game still looks that shitty after at least two years of polishing?

I wouldn't be mad if you gave us some insights you had during the demo, specifically what makes it different from 2K11/12.

I played two five minute quarters. One against this douchy little German kid who kept shooting for threes with any player (Ibaka for instance...), so yeah I was kind of annoyed and I really wanted to beat him, so I didn't focus that much on the gameplay, haha!

But then the second game was against my main man Granny Danger and I was really impressed. The collision system has improved greatly, no more awkward bumps in the paint, everything looks so realistic. Even though I didn't get enough time to get used to the new control stick (I think that'll take a while for ANYONE), it felt like a great addition and I can't wait to actually master it. One thing I thought was really weird, is that spin moves for example work with the control stick (right) as well as with the left stick. I was trying to do some combinations and sometimes they worked (spin move into crossover), but they were kind of hard to pull off.

The game feels slower, a bit more simmy imo. Oh and there are a shitload of new pass animations, no pass looks the same, which is awesome. Westbrook threw some flashy dimes, especially the bounce passes really work well. I'm really excited because for me that was the main problem in 2K12.

The demo was only 80% finished, and I thought it already looked real polished. If you compare it to that shit video EA released, yeah well, it's a no-contest really.

If you have more specific questions, then shoot!

Thank you for replying.

I have an assload of questions but I don't want to waste your time.

Just a couple, if you'd be so kind as to answer:

1. What was the difficulty? In 2K12/11, the gameplay mechanics aren't really a problem until you start playing HOF difficulty, which is what I play exclusively. I take any new improvements with a grain of salt, as all of 2K's titles have looked fine on Rookie to All-Star difficulty.

2. Were you able to move around the court without getting bumped every damn second? Getting bumped in the paint is one thing, but when you're trying to play off ball in 2K12, being in small proximity of 1 defender (even on the perimeter) causes your guy to go in a "bumping" animation that really ruins the flow of the game.

3. Pick and Roll game. Was it still terrible?

4. Low Post scoring. Were defenders still getting pushed around no matter -what- by big men that were posting up? And were they still getting scored on like 9/10 times on whatever shot was put up from a post position?

5. Rebounding. Does the CPU still know where every rebound is going, and is there still that stupid "volleyball" type of rebounding going on?

When was this? The games people played at E3/Gamescon are entirely different to the current build released currently according to 2K. Even though the build people played got great reception. They changed dribbling, post, animations, PNR, spacing, AI, defense, rebounds, post-D, shotblocking, and so much more since. Even shotclock and pace were addressed. 2K is finally paying attention to detail, which is what makes me excited about 2k13 than any other previous basketball game ever.

Sure, no problem!

1. I can't really tell, because I was playing against human controlled opponents who were defending on-ball all the time... Anyway, we all know 2K is NO fun playing against noobs who don't understand basketball... My friend was able to defend me well, I on the other hand kind of had a hard time, but I have to admit, defense isn't my strong point in this game (those god damn shot fakes always get me :oldlol: ). We'll have to wait and see...

2. Pretty much, I never really had any awkward moments, it looked really fluent overall. Some players even have their own running/dribbling animations this time around. Westbrook for instance dribbles up the court as he would do in real life. Pretty cool.

3. Couldn't run actual plays (too bad, because normally I run a play on every single possession), but I could call for a pick using the left bumper. The picks really work well, I was able to create space and drive into the lane easily.

4. Honestly I had no clue on how to do post moves (they revamped those as well), so I never really tried... Did bank a nice turn around fade-away with KD though.

5. Hard to tell, I honestly can't remember. But again, I saw tons of new animations, including rebounding.

Honestly, it's kind of hard to answer these questions based off only two five minute quarters... I focused on the overall flow of the game and it felt and looked really good. Looks like 2k really put some work in it, and that they actually focused on the gameplay instead of putting in new features (you know, the MJ and legends stuff...). I'm optimistic and will buy this day one.

Gameplay looks horrible. Presentation/Commentary is amazing. Can 2K get ESPN?
I may have mentioned this a few weeks ago but 2K had the ESPN license all the way through 2005. They had it fully integrated into their games like NBA Live showed in this released footage. However, after the 2K5 releases (NFL 2K5 was particularly dominant), EA Sports purchased the ESPN rights for 15 years. As such, I believe their current deal will not end until 2020. http://www.gamespot.com/news/electronic-arts-espn-ink-exclusive-15-year-deal-6116473

The lamest part of that whole deal is it took nearly 8 years for EA Sports to begin fully integrated ESPN into their video games. When they bought the license in 2005, they more or less acquired it so 2K wouldn't have it. Here's what 2K's ESPN integration looked like in 2005: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gDD6UCXxURo&feature=related. Chris Berman's own 2K show (full with highlights), post-game interviews, Top Plays of the Week during Franchise. . . that was seven years ago and we haven't seen anything like it since.

Remember those days when NBA Live used to rule?

I really liked NBA Live 05, especially that dunk contest mini-game, that was really well done. But then I picked up 2K5, back then it was ESPN 2K5 I believe, and man, that was something else... Never even touched live since then.

Tried NBA Live 08 at a friend's later on, but man, I can't believe people would actually play that when you have such a WAAAY better alternative.

2K13 will be great, but I must say I'm not digging the dunk contest (you know, with the Guitar Hero-esque controls). It's weird to me that 2K Sports - who deliver the deepest basketball game there is, year after year - implement such a shallow-ass mode. I mean, you have no control whatsoever, what's fun about that? Why not use the control stick? A bit lame, but oh well, it's just an add-on, what matters most is the core gameplay. And that, my friends, is solid.

Remember those days when NBA Live used to rule?I should still have my NBA live 95 stashed somewhere  still remember the shot across court with Brian Shaw, goat shot.

Then NBA Live 96 first shot at 3D, well sort off players weren't in 3D.

NBA Live 97 has to this day my favorite feature in any NBA game, there was a button beneath every player, well most of them, then you would press that button and a woman would give you interesting facts and trivia about that player, was pretty cool wish 2k would do something like this, you would listen to her talk while you are browsing the menus and looking at stats or something.

Played all of them on the pc.

I really liked NBA Live 05, especially that dunk contest mini-game, that was really well done. But then I picked up 2K5, back then it was ESPN 2K5 I believe, and man, that was something else... Never even touched live since then.

What else did you see at Gamescom that was cool?

Nothing too much really, couldn't be bothered to wait in line for 3+ hours to play a 5 minute demo. I wanted to check out Far Cry 3/Assassin's Creed 3 but the lines were absolutely ridiculous. I just walked around checking out booth bitches 'n shit, haha.

Luckily basketball isn't TOO popular in Europe, so playing 2K13 was no problem - it was pretty much the only game I really, really wanted to play, so yeah...

I did play this random ass game that was hella-funny though: Tokyo Jungle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gN98-QEfYzI)

These Asians! :oldlol:

Sorry for the OT peepz, I will shut up now. :crazysam:

Yea, nostalgia! I have all those NBA lives left under a pile of dust next to my SNES somewhere.

Why not use the control stick? I'm with you on that one. From a lot of what I heard early on, people were claiming the previous controls for 2K's Dunk Contest were terribly complicated, thus leading to this dumbed down version "anyone" can pick up. I never found the old controls that difficult to begin with. One had to learn how to perform dunks correctly, but it wasn't exactly rocket science.

Now, the new dunk contest is one of those cases where I'm hoping something's changed or control alternatives are offered but secretly, I know what we've seen is what we're getting, and that kind of sucks. 2K finally moves their dunk contest to a realistic environment and they take away all control of our dunkers in response; little bit of a bummer.

NBA live has been the same story every year. People can change, but some things are never gonna change.

I still hate EA for hogging football.

At this point I want them to keep making shit basketball games in hopes that the NBA picks up on the bad reception of the games and they lose some of their licensing.
