ISH, where a 4 time champion as the man, both offensively and defensively, including once with one of the worst supporting casts around a superstar, a 2 time NBA MVP and clear best player in the league multiple years against great competition who has 9 All-NBA first team and 7 All-NBA Defensive first team selections, one of the few individual who could be argued to have played basketball a near perfect-way, resulting in one of the greatest winning percentages in sports history over a 15 year period... is considered at best the 9h greatest player of all-time.
If Duncan is voted number 10 this experiment is officially a failure.
I hope people will start respecting his achievements once he retires, because as of now, the level of appreciation for what he's done is at an all time low.

Well the reason Kobe Homers got the chance to vote Kobe so high, was simply because the vote was divided between Duncan and Hakeem pretty evenly.
When it was the Shaq thread, it was nearly unanimous outside of the Kobe homers.

If you had asked me who was the #8 player today, I probably would have picked Duncan. Honestly I flip between him and Kobe ranking wise every week.
Having said that, gotta go with Duncan here. I feel Hakeem at his peak was the better overall player, but the differences in their abilities isn't as much a gap as the difference in their resume. Duncan has clearly had the more accomplished career and really when I look at his achievements, #9 just seems too low right now.

Tim Duncan.
Ojaluwon is overrated.
IMHO, Hakeem had two post-season series in which his entire career was built. He outplayed Ewing in '94, and he pounded Robison in '95 (and Robinson basically matched him in their 42 other H2H's.) And you will never convince me that he outplayed Shaq in the '95 Finals (when Hakeem's TEAMMATES just overwhelmed Shaq's) In fact, Shaq ABUSED Hakeem in the majority of their H2H's. He was only regarded as the best player in the league in ONE season, and only a top-4 player FOUR times in his 18 season career, and in fact, was not even listed as top-10 in EIGHT. He also led his teams to eight first-round exits.
Olajuwon could not make the All NBA FIRST TEAM for 3 straight years in his prim:. 1990, 1991 and 1992, when he was 27, 28 and 29 years old.
Which of Kobe, Duncan, Moses and Shaq also failed to do so? He wasn't considered the consensus best center for a good part of his prime (and it was not like he was battling Kareem and Wilt , it was Ewing and Robinsons for that All nba first team spot in those years).

I really don't think where taking into perspective that there are THOUSANDS of players that played in this league. Hundreds of them were really good, about 50 of em were good enough for this spot, and about 20 of em have a good enough resume.

Actually I am taking thousands of players into perspective. And you'd be hard-pressed to find 10 better overall players or careers than Tim Duncan. Duncan has as good a case as anyone to be in the 6-9 range. Of course this is all subjective and people have different criteria.

I would go with the man who CRUSHED the #2 player in these ridiculous polls H2H in the vast majority of their H2H's, and who dominated the NBA from the late 70's and into the mid-80's, winning THREE FMVPs, a FMVP, and MULITPLE rebounding titles, including one by 5 rpg. He also had a 31-15 season, as well.

But what can you do? I mean it's not like Kobe doesn't have a really strong case for number eight? I mean, personally I think Duncan deserved that spot, but it had gotten to the point where Kobe deserved to get in somewhere. You're right, though. I was tallying the votes last night and I'd say 20-25 of Kobe's votes came from some of the most die-hard Kobe stans and/or Lakers fans.
It is what it is, though. There's just a lot more Lakers fans on here than any other fanbase, so it's going to skew the voting at times.

See, that's the problem. You're focusing on all the kobe/laker stans. But there is just as much if not more kobe/laker haters voting against him just based on the simple fact that it's him. So if anything, it evens itself out. In reality, if there were so many kobe/laker stans voting for kobe, then he would've been much higher than 8, probably top 5 which would've made yall pissed. But clearly, even the kobe lovers all agree with the general consensus that kobe is 8.

I have no idea who many non-Kobe votes are by Kobe "haters" but I'm sure you're right, there are some. But at the same time (and I think this was the case for #8) the non-Kobe players are splitting the vote some. When I was tallying and stopped around page 8 or so yesterday, Kobe had 27 votes and Hakeem and Duncan at 14 or 15 apiece. That may have been 28-30 votes by nothing but Kobe haters but the vote was split.
Doesn't really matter, and I don't really care, though, because I don't have a problem with Kobe at 8.

All of the bold are highly debatable, and I'm sure the part about more praise from current and former coaches and players is too. At least don't act like Kobe takes all of those categories no problem.
I'm not gonna say he takes all that easy but I think he takes it. The only one debatable if you think he's a better player. The better career and more praise is well documented and goes to Kobe.
Look I know spurs basketball better than anyone on here. From 2001-2004 I lived in San Antonio (this was the height of Duncan's career so that's all people talked about. I been to countless games and I worked down the same road that most of the spurs lived (I worked for target on blanco rd). So I use to have similar conversations with spurs players themselves ( I debated with Malik rose twice).
Back then it was clear that shaq and Duncan had the better career but Kobe has just held on for way longerwith being a top player and won championships aswell with teams on his own back. I agree that Kobe was not the main man on those laker championships but I don't believe he was robin to Shaqs batman. More like batman to Shaqs superman. It's the post shaq era where everyone thought Kobe would just be another sg without shaq and then came out with a vengeance that gives him the slight seperation

It's the post shaq era where everyone thought Kobe would just be another sg without shaq and then came out with a vengeance that gives him the slight seperation

this is true Lebron should be ahead of Moses for sure. But imo Oscar should be 11 and Lebron 12.

also, I guess we're not including the ABA years, or else Dr. J would already be voted in
I didnt even include them in the comparasion as they have ZERO chance against Hakeem, Lebron and Moses accolades, they are right behind them but they do NOT belong above them.

As far as Julius Erving goes, i care about what a player did in the NBA against NBA competition and NBA rules.. no pun intended, he was a great player and accomplished alot in the NBA aswell, but not enough to go over these guys above imo...

Oscar has more than just a triple double season. He actually averaged a triple double over a 5 year period. He is more than just a 1 year wonder that you seem to make him out to be.
And making a top 10 list should be more than just adding up awards and achievements. Not all MVP (or any award for that matter) seasons are equal.

Ya'll look way too much on the championships and rings. Its like you guys can't even judge a players ability by yourself without using the championship argument. Some players win more championships in weaker eras while others don't win as many but play in a very strong era.

Exactly. Many mention Duncan, even though he never was as dominant as Hakeem, and if we swap them - Duncan would probably have zero rings, zero MVPs, and zero DPOYs (same as now).

Well considering that the standards have changed for many of these awards, and some haven't always even existed, I would say using them in ANY argument is disingenuous at best.
The MVP used to be voted on by the players, and not the media for example.
It's like saying Cy Young is not a good pitcher, because he didn't win any Cy Young awards.

Why are people complaining about Kobe being #8 not realizing this? You guys are nearly as bad as Kobe stand in your logic. If Laker fans/Kobe stans truly owned this forum and this list the way you suggest, why did they only come out in swarms when it came to #8? Maybe because many actually believe Kobe is the #8th greatest player of all time? Like the above poster and many others have said, if this list was that tainted by them, Kobe would be in the Top 5, fairly easily considering how many Laker fans and Kobe stans there are.
The truth many of you refuse to realize is that there is not much separating 7, 8, 9, and 10, or to be more clear, Duncan, Kobe, Shaq, and Hakeem. Aside from Hakeem, who was the most skilled out of 3 of the 4, all of their achievements in terms of team and individual success are literally separated by a strain of hair. I personally think Duncan should be placed higher than Kobe right now, but I also believe Kobe will end up ranked higher than Duncan by the time the two retire.
Anyway, get a grip folks. And once again, I vote Duncan.

By your logic, Dirk was the best player in the league in the 2010-2011 season. Which he wasn't, Lebron was. But, he had a better season than Lebron and was the best player in the playoffs. But, 23 games do not trump 82 games.

OK. Let's say Kobe was the clear-cut the best. Was there any player which is better than Duncan not named Kobe Bryant in 2006-07 season?
PS, I say top 2 for both of them because Kobe's regular season was not as strong as his 2005-06. He was 3rd at mvp race but he got only 2 1st places votes(20 less compared to 2006).

BTW, as for 2006-07 season, while Kobe's season wasn't as strong as 2005-06, Duncan was great in regular season too this time. He led the L in DRtg. It was his most efficient season. His ORtg-DRtg difference ise 17. As for # wins, Spurs were behind of Mavs and Suns. But they outscored their opponents by 8.4 points which is highest for the season. (2nd is Suns with 7.3) Also they had highest ORtg-DRtg difference with 9.3. (2nd is Mavs with 8.1) Their # of wins doesn't suggest the Spurs had a great regular season, but thanks to Duncan they had.

Well I have Kobe as the best, with Dirk at 2nd, and Duncan as 3rd. But to me, Duncan has as much of case for second as Dirk considering he was still leaps and bounds better than Dirk defensively in 2006/2007, in fact I believe he was the true DPOY that year. So I have no problem with Duncan at 2nd.
Care to explain 2005? And arguably 2011(playoffs)?
If you didn't write the bolded part, I can respond seriously but you're just a joke.
i'll give you 2008 but i dont think that duncan was a top 10 in 09 and he wasnt top 15 by 2010.

@Odin, Duncan wasn't better than Kobe in 2006-2007. Yes, he went farther than Kobe did in the playoffs (resulting in a championship), but that was more a product of Duncan's much more superior cast (IMO the best supporting cast of Duncan's 4 rings) when compared to Kobe's laughable teammates.
By your logic, Dirk was the best player in the league in the 2010-2011 season. Which he wasn't, Lebron was. But, he had a better season than Lebron and was the best player in the playoffs. But, 23 games do not trump 82 games.
Actually besides the '99 title that many people don't even acknowledge, the '07 Spurs ring has a huge asterisk to me. (Disgusting what happened to the Suns)
Not to mention really weak competition (Jazz in the WCF? Cavs in Finals?) and had to get help from Stern (suspensions) to beat the only legit team standing in their way.

If 2007 was an asterisk, so were 2000 and 2002. But that's not my point in this post.
Yes, in 2007 the Spurs faced really weak competition. If they faced a competition like in 2005 or at least like 2003 and won the title, they'd be better than 2005 Spurs imo. But that's just hypothetical.
Duncan hasn't been Top 15 since 06????
if thats in response to what i said then you need to go back and read it again, I said that "i haven't done my research but I believe he hasn't been top "5" since 06. I believe that it is debatable that he was top 15 in "09" though. He was a 19 and 10 man which is good enough to be a top 10 but there was alot of guys that can get the nod over him.
by 2010 it is no question that he was not a top 15 imo
that right there in itself is a double standard
the only way you could argue duncan even being remotely close would be careers. god knows his peak was nothing compared to kobe ( and kobes career is still slightly ahead of tims )
but in order to say hakeem. it would have to be solely off peak play. kobe has a better career than hakeem just from 2006-2012 LOL
so to argue both would mean youd have to change the entire way you judge players each time
i exposed you and the rest of the clowns the other day. i have no problem doing it again

idk.... 06, 03 and 07 are all pretty good candidates for being as good as Duncan's best year (idk if that's 2003 or not)

Why do I get the feeling that Deuce waited so long to conclude the #8 voting thread because he wanted Kobe to get enough votes?
Anyway, Hakeem.

You're so f*cking ignorant. If anything, it's peak Duncan vs. peak Kobe that may give Duncan the edge due to Kobe's resume being a little more impressive. As good of a perimeter defender Kobe was at his best (although I don't think he was at his best as a defender in his best scoring seasons), Duncan's defensive impact at his best was far more significant.
I'm not sure Kobe ever had a season where he coupled his best defense with his best offense. Younger Kobe (200-2003ish) was Kobe at his defensive best but, when he was at his offensive best (2005-2008) he wasn't the same defender. In his best years, Duncan was at his best offensively and defensively.

Actually, if Deuce was driving forth an agenda, he would have closed the thread far before the time he actually did. Kobe had a more significant lead in votes before the thread began to draw to a close.
He seemed very impartial in his management of the threads.

Yes he was, and that was the first year of his entire career that he wasn't top 10....
1. Kobe Bryant
2. Dwyane Wade
3. Lebron James
4. Dwight Howard
5. Dirk Nowitzki
6. Steve Nash
7. Deron Williams
8. Carmelo Anthony
9. Pau Gasol
10. Kevin Durant
11. Rajon Rondo
12. Tim Duncan
13. Chris Bosh
14. Paul Pierce
15. Brandon Roy
Duncan was never not a top 5 player for an entire ****ing decade. Not many players can say that, including chuckbe.

How could you not have amare above him he was putting up like 25 a game? Chris Paul? Zach Randolph was better in 2010 also. And though his hype was short lived monta Ellis should be there as well. That's off the top of my head
Duncan was top 20 but there are 15 guys that was better than him IMO, he was more on the level of the joe Johnson's and al Jefferson's by then
