View Full Version : DWade: "I don't know if Lebron has the ability to pass Jordan..."

"I don't know if (James) has the ability to surpass (Jordan) or not," Wade told ESPNChicago.com on Thursday during a promotional event for his Wade's World Foundation. "That's yet to be seen. My version as LeBron being on par with Michael is this: They're both on the golf course. Michael's on the 18th hole. LeBron is somewhere on like the fourth hole. He's got a long way to go, but he's on par to get to the 18th hole.

I agree. I find it funny that people think that 1 ring puts him on pace for 4 more like its gonna be easy. 1 ring is NOTHING he will never be on Kobe's level let alone Jordan's.

Lebron is already better than Kobe has ever been, f.ag boy

This could be one of the smartest things Wade has ever said. In order for Lebron to catch MJ in terms of career greatness he can't think that he's already there. This could be a great motivation tactic. Wade understands that the more Lebron wins the more he wins also.

Never said they didn't count. But why should Lebron be penalized because he didn't go to a team playing with Shaq, Eddie Jones, Van Exel, etc. :confusedshrug: Not sure if you watch the playoff this season, but Lebron had a Finals run that was better than any Kobe run ever. Not sure how he was a sidekick in 12 when he was by far the best player on the court.

I love how people bring up Kobe's "2nd fiddle" rings with Shaq yet don't bring up the fact that on some nights Lebron isn't even the best player in the backcourt. Even though Kobe's first 3 rings came with Shaq, Kobe has never shared the backcourt with anybody, much less duck out of his team in order to team up with other superstars. Kobe has stayed up, let the front office do their jobs and has played to the best of his ability with the cast around him, how the hell can people fault him for that?
Anyways point of the matter is that Kobe has NEVER been 2nd fiddle to anybody in the backcourt, and since Shaq left in 04 Kobe's clearly been the man of his team. Imagine what would have happened last year if the Heat won (they got upset by the Mavs, a team nobody picked to win) and Wade got MVP, then would Lebron have been carried to his 1st ring as well?

this is what separates us kobe fans from most lebron fans
we actually put kobe where he is ranked by everyone
around #6-8 all time
lebron fans put their favorite player ( with an obvious at best top 15 all time career ) along side kobe
kobe is a legend. his careers set in stone. hes achived a magic/bird type status all time
lebrons reached a high level and accomplished something. but enough to be in the same sentence with those other guys?
no
hes not on that tier yet
hes with the guys like moses/erving/oscar types
all time greats with 1 title
you need to prove the 1 title wasnt a fluke in order to crack that top 10 list

I bring up my opinion on Kobe when I feel he is being overrated. I gave him praise in the 81 point game thread. And even said they 3 peat if Bynum/Ariza were healthy in 08. Is he a top 10 player? Yes. Will he go down as the 2nd best SG ever? Yes. Is he better than Lebron? Sorry, but I don't think so. And the super team excuse is pretty weak. Lebron had to some heavy lifting to get that team to the Finals. Wade wasn't close to healthy, Bosh missed a ton of games, and the role players played like trash until the Finals.

Its on par, but I give Lebron the edge because I thought he had to do more for his team. Wade/Bosh were hurt, role players were trash until Finals, and Lebron played better in his Game 7. 09 is underrated though. That Lakers team was pretty young if I remember and Bynum wasn't nearly 100% Also, Kobe had a hand injury, right?

I thought we were strictly talking about Finals.
But if we're talking about playoff runs as well. I think his 2001 playoffs was incredibly good (unless you don't wanna count it since he's a sidekick). But the fact that he completely destroyed the Kings and Spurs in the western conference semi and finals was something else.
and his 2010 run wasn't too shabby outside of his higher turnover rate than his other runs. But had better shooting efficiency than his previous runs imo. took WAY more 3's than 2009 and shot 3 percent more efficient (37.4%).
When people talk about Lebron's playoff run in comparison to any of Kobe's, its literally only Kobe fans/Lebron haters that actually think any of Kobe's playoff runs are even ARGUABLY as good as Lebron's 2012 playoff run. Coincidence?

considering it was in a lockout year where everyone got injured
considering it was against 3 pathetic teams in the east
considering it was against a finals team that never got there before
considering hes playing with 2 other hall of famers to take away pressure
then
considering kobe played in a real season/ against much better competition in 2009 and 2010/ and averaged 30/6/5 in 2 consecutive playoffs with only pau gasol as his only other allstar when andrew bynum was still only a 6-8ppg playoff performer riding the bench
i would say yes... kobe bryants 2 titles as finals mvp are both better than lebrons 2012 showing
but forget all that... even if lebron fans were right ( which they rarely are )

3. Shaq
4. Kobe
5. Lebron
6. Barkley
7. Malone
8. Hakeem
I didn't see Magic play except in The Finals sadly, but I'd probably rank him 2nd of all time.

Better defender, rebounder, passer, more durable, more efficient scorer. The only thing Kobe is better at is taking more shots and freezing out his teammates at the end of close games.

The thing about guys like Ali, Ruth, and MJ is that is that your peak value could be just as good or better. And your actual resume can be just as good or better. But chances are, your cultural impact won't match theirs. That means u have to accumulate such a dominant and CLEARLY better resume to overtake them. Ruth's reign on top of baseball to this day is insane shit. I think many people would still say he's the GOAT. Even though guys like Mays would get mad love too cause he's the better all around player. But Mays cultural impact can't match Babe's.
Bron has a chance to possibly pass Kareem by on the all time scoring list. And also go down as arguably the greatest non PG passer ever. I could see Bron racking 8,000 to 9,000 assists in his career. So let's say Bron wins 4-6 rings minimum, has 5-7 MVP, three gold medals, career averages of 27 + points-7+assists-7+rebounds, and has around 40,000 points along 8,000 to 9,000 assists. On top of that coming from HS and putting up 20-5-5 and having unparalled versatility and size. If the stars lineup to the scenario I laid out, I think Bron SHOULD PASS MJ by! Not saying peak value wise he would ever be better than MJ. But he would have the resume that speaks for itself. And let's face it, Bron is most likely the most transcendant team sports star in the world right now. A level only guys like MJ, Magic, Bird, and Shaq get to.

Dog, let it go. No reasonable person is still debating this. Kobe has never been the player LeBron James currently is. Stop the agenda and just let it go.

I doubt Lebron can pass Jordan, but he will pass Kobe that's why people(Bird,Magic,Barkley,Bohiem) say he might pass Jordan as the GOAT when it's all said and done. Kobe will alway be 7-10 all time.

Lebron as a player is way above Kobe, but this isn't pick up streetball. Context and impact matters and Kobe with the right cast is as impactful as Lebron with the right cast.

Yeah Lebron had an amazing run facing juggernauts such as an injury depleted Knicks team, Pacers and old Boston team lmao. Lebrons run was great but now all of a sudden his teammates are garbage(he plays with 2 superstars) lebron ******gers are the worst making it sound like he played with the bobcats
Yeah, it's the same mantra when he played in Cleveland. Saying "Lebron is the best player on the team," now that he's in Miami, is their round about way of trying to say he won all by himself:rolleyes:

Lakers bout to get their 16th championship and Kobe his 6th. Mitch just pissed all over your championship cruise. Enjoy that one rings clowns.

This could be one of the smartest things Wade has ever said. In order for Lebron to catch MJ in terms of career greatness he can't think that he's already there. This could be a great motivation tactic. Wade understands that the more Lebron wins the more he wins also.
He didn't say anything bad but he should have dodged the question to be honest.
Should have said something like, "That's really not my job to do. I don't get paid to rank the All-Time list. My job is to win championships with LeBron and the Miami Heat."

What did Lebron actually do that makes him more impactful?
I know that the Cavs were a pretty bad team sans Lebron before '10, but they provided what James needed. Outside shooting. That's the right cast for Lebron. That got him a chip this year.
The Heat were just superior to the Cavs, but the style of play was very reminding. Lebron doesn't need a ATG big man, because he needs the paint for himself. That's why Bosh is actually a good fit for him on offensive, Love would fit aswell.
Kobe needs a big, because he's actually the shooter. He doesn't need space in the paint as much as Lebron.
