Three questions...
1) Which show has the more eye pleasing female cast?
2) Who has the better (more desirable) life? Don Draper, Harvey Specter or Hank Moody?
3) And which show is just overall the better of the three?
I watch all three shows, just wondering what others thought.

Yeah Suits is a good show. Good shows are bad for me, especially if it's a few seasons in. I end up watching a full season in like 3 days....I lose sleep dawg. I lose sleep. I have a problem.
same here:hammerhead:

I only watch Mad Men & Suits but..
1) Rachel & maybe even Donna from Suits are hotter than any of the girls on Mad Men.
2) Draper is more of a bad ass than Harvey.
3) Mad Men is the better show by far, and Im a pretty big Suits fan.
On the topic of Rachel Zane and her being hot.. Isis Taylor.

I dont watch many shows, but its still easy to say that Californication has the best variety of chick, and most of them topless.

this will be very ignorant….
I heard that Mad Men is a well written soap opera, how true is that?
What makes the show so great? I don't care about the 'realistic pieces' and 'era recreation' stuff either.
Agree with YAWN except that Harvey has the more desirable life. Harvey isnt a divorced alcoholic with skeletons in his closet.
Mad Men's writing and characters are better. AMC gives the writers more freedom which allows them to create more flawed and realistic characters with plot lines that do not always magically workout in the protagonists favor.

don't watch suits or californication
but to add onto what jb said and to answer andgar, it isn't just the well rounded characters and unpredictable story arcs that makes madmen great. they really capture a lot fascinating aspects of the private sector, in particular i thought they totally nailed the firm/client dynamic, from potential pitfalls to the relationship, moral dilemmas pitting artistic integrity against money motives, all the fun backroom scheming and shenanigans, etc. plus all the interoffice rivalries and romances and careerism is good too.
mostly for me though the best part was the formulation of ideas process. the creative dpt begins with the product, dresses it down to its bare bones to figure out what it really means to a potential consumer, and then designs sets, slogans, and imagery to capture that imagination... essentially trick the average joe by praying on his pathos, desires and secret longings, using sex, success, family values, w/e to manipulate the psyche into believing in the value, or even more the necessity, of a product that's really in fact a luxury
btw without having watched either suits or californication, i've still seen enough promos and billboards to get a look at the t&a that those shows offer..... and no, none of it compares to this

I've spent the last couple weeks ripping through the first four seasons of Mad Men on DVD, and it really is a spectacular piece of television.
It's hard to explain totally what makes it so great, because so much of it is subtle. But I would say that it's far funnier than I think it's generally depicted. It's sort of dry take on the era is really funny to me. The fact that no one knows Sal is gay for example cracks me up.
The way it's set against this backdrop of entire eras is really fascinating. The interpersonal drama is some of the best ever written. And one of the reasons I think it doesn't draw the audience maybe it should is because they don't play up the whole Don Draper isn't actually Don Draper story line which really drives the show. I had know idea that's what the show was about. I went into the show thinking it was a well made period drama about advertising and little else. Also, Roger Sterling is an epic character.
I'm not even a huge Joan fan, but I find the eye candy pretty stunning in it. Betty Draper is smoking hot, Don's new wife is hot, Roger's second wife is stunning, I really dug Allison, the secretary Don slept with, Obviously Allison Brie being Mrs. Pete Campbell is gorgeous. And the girl that Roger set Don up with in season 4, who played Steve Newlin's wife on True Blood, is rediculously hot. Characters are periodically highly sexualized, but not to the extent they are on some shows, so it may not have the same impact, but there are a bevy of good looking women, and you sort of have to dig the look of that era.
I watch Californication too. It's not a particularly good show, although the first season was good. I still watch it though, because Hank still strikes me funny from time to time. Overall I'd say the quality of chick on that show might look a little better than Mad Men, but because of how the characters are so hyper sexualized, it's sort of the point. Charlie's girlfriend from last year, Camilla Luddington, was stunning.
I don't watch Suits. What's the gist?
And Don and Hank don't have particularly great lives, albeit a bit similar. Divorced Drunks who are unusually well off financially and are pathological womanizers, although neither seems to be ill intentioned in their dealings with the ladies.

Yeah, I can't put a finger on what it is exactly it is that makes Mad men so intriguing. The mystery behind Don definitely kept me interested at first. As did the historical concept of it all. Overall, the story line just builds well. The shows just connects me with the 60's and I like that. And yes January Jones is a beauty and Christina Hendricks is a bombshell. It's a shame what they did to her in the movie Drive.
As for Californication, I agree that it isn't that good of a show but I think it can be worth watching. Entertaining enough IMO. Mad Men and Suits are definitely better though however Californication is into it's 7th season which proves people do enjoy it. Probably more for the T&A than anything else. the T&A is nice though.
Suits is pretty good. Gist? The story begins with a brilliant law school dropout (expelled) who makes money by taking the LSAT's for others. His pot dealing buddy sets him up with a delivery for some extra needed cash which in turn ends up being a shakedown with the cops. Accidental? Not sure. Mike, being the genius that he is, accidentally worms his way into an group interview session for a legal associate position during his escape from the cops. He is then brought into a one on one with Harvey Specter (NY's top closer) because the secretary is amused from his escaping from the cops story. She thought he was one of the interviewees. During the interview, Mike accidentally pop opens his briefcase, which is full of mary jane, and has no other choice but to explain the situation at hand. Harvey is understanding but not amused, that is until Mike demonstrates his genius ability by reciting his wide and specific knowledge of the law. Harvey ends up hiring him against all protocol and the series begins. Watch it, it's a good show.
