And he shat on Ruben Patterson, who was considered an elite defender, Ron I'm Metta Crazy Artest, Posey is was considered an elite defender, Kenyon Martin who again.. is considered an elite defender, Richard Jefferson the list goes on. And like you said, almost all of them in either their defensive prime or athletic prime, while MJ was past his.

This is why most people will say that MJ in his prime would embarrass the league today. Because well

a much better/shorter video showing Young Kobe vs Prime MJ...all the way until older MJ vs Prime Kobe..(too many videos to watch on the OP's post)

Kobe really learned alot from playing against MJ...even after scoring 30 points against Jordan and Pippen in 1998....he showed how much he improved by dropping 55 (42 in 1 half) for the final act..proving his skillset was 2 nd to none

Wasn't that the game in 2002-2003 season when Jordan was almost 40? And isn't that the one where Jordan only defended Kobe a few times?

He would have been even better at that age in his era... Worse competition at SG. 80s and 90s players aren't magically better. MJ would have pretty much had the same career if he were in his prime now as he did back then.

People who were saying that the "Oh this player would KILL these guys if he were in his prime in the current era" doesn't really happen, this is just 1 of 100s examples i've seen on this forum.

hhmmm..prolly 38 - 39.....but..

- using advanced math....

If teenage Kobe scored 30 points against the Bull's ( MJ/Pippen) in 98'....in 25 minutes...

and ...

- 55 points in basically 36 minutes...

- + 12 divided by 7....hmm...that would mean Kobe would most likely merk MJ / Pippen in 93' for 47 - 60 points.....

- even watching 03' Kobe drop 40 PPG 9 times in a row....I think Jordan would be in way over his head on this one.

SG position in the early and mid-90s was deeper than it is right now. Michael Jordan, Clyde Drexler, Reggie Miller, Joe Dumars, Mitch Richmond, Jeff Hornacek, Dan Majerle, and Kendall Gill (16-4-4-2 player) off the top of my head. The SG position was definitely deeper than it is right now and it's comparable to any other time this decade.

Right now you've got past his prime on the decline Kobe and breaking down 31 year old Dwyane Wade carrying the SG flag. After that it's two other aging guys in Manu and Joe Johnson. The only real bright spots for the future are James Harden and Eric Gordon, and one of those can't stay healthy.

No idea how you came up with any of those numbers, but Kobe isn't "merking" peak Jordan and Pippen for 47-60 points. And if Jordan would be in over his defending Kobe, Kobe would be over his head two times over defending prime/peak Jordan. The best defenders aren't going to routinely stop the best scorers from getting their points, but prime Jordan was a better and more consistent scorer than prime Kobe. Both are/were elite, but don't act like Jordan/Pippen wouldn't be able to stop Kobe while Kobe would be stopping Jordan.

Ok I'll admit i wasn't clear about my post, i was talking about the 00s when SG was loaded (i just said current because i associated the 00s with recent still). I was thinking swapping the Prime MJ/Old MJ for comparison sake. Old MJ would have more sucess during prime MJ era then he did in Old MJ era because less competition at SG

:facepalm

Because he would be better...what is so hard to understand? The perimeter player friendly rules, the no contact circle under the hoop, less physical play, etc, I think he would avg 38-40 points in his scoring prime, if Wade can get to the line at will, I could see avg 12-13 free throws throughout this era, in his scoring prime. The thing that would suffer would be his defense, yet with that said he still would be a premier defender in the league.....are we going to act like Dan Marino wouldn't be better with Defensive Backs no longer allowed contact with receivers after 5 yards...his numbers would be better.

So you're saying put 5 ppg on every perimeter player who ever played in the 80s 90s? I fu.cking hate 80s 90s stans like you. He would have the same career. Just because these 80s 90s guys are your childhoods heroes doesn't mean shi.t.

I'd have to check (can't recall all who was playing SG in the early 2000s after Kobe, T-Mac, AI, Allen, and Vince Carter), but I'd still argue the SG position was just as deep (if not deeper) than it was in the early 2000s.

Seing Jordan in 03 only make us thing what could have he done in 99,00,01 and 02. I think he still would have been the best in 1999 and maybe even 00 (at least in the top 5).

I think the Bulls would still have won it all in 1999.

What if MJ joined the Lakers or the Blazers in 2000?

Jordan would dominate today's game.

He was too quick, too agile, too athletic. People say Kobe has amazing body control, I think Jordan's was better. He could do things while in the air, with three defenders around him that most NBA players wouldn't be able to do in practice.

With today's rules, Jordan would never have had to bulk up and get stronger like he did to go against the Knicks. I loved watching the skinnier, younger Jordan because of the amazing stuff he did night in and night out.

That's just his athleticism. He would mentally break down just about any player in today's game with his trash talking. I could see Lebron/Wade getting butthurt over MJ trash talking them. I could see Kobe getting flustered and going into KoMe mode (I'm a Kobe fan). The only players (stars) I could see not being affected by Jordan's trash talking are Duncan and Dirk. They're so even keeled all the time.

As far as defense, I don't think Jordan would be as dominant on that end as he was in his day. He definitely milked the handchecking and physical play back then. He knew he was getting away with a lot, but as long as they allowed it, he would continue playing defense that way. He's an exceptionally smart and adaptive player. I'm sure that while he wouldn't be as dominant, he could still pull off All-NBA Defensive 1st over Kobe or any other guards. He could possibly still get a DPOY.

There is a lot more competition amongst perimeter players today than in Jordan's day though. Kobe, Durant, Lebron, Wade are all better than Drexler and Miller who were amongst MJ's top rivals.

I would have to say that with this competition, Jordan's play would have elevated just going by history. He always was able to elevate his game when he needed/wanted to. He would never let any of these players outplay him.

If young Kobe can easily scored 55 points against MJ, Im pretty sure Kobe would scored 100 points multiple times in the 80's aka no defense era and would avg around 45ppg easily..

you can say whatever you want, defense leads to great offense. MJ would have been extremely frustrated on the defensive end, not being able to cheat and hand check people like he did back in the day, and he would have not been typical MJ on offense. He could not have held ground AT ALL vs LeBron James. YouTube MJ vs Lebron highlights, you will easily see what I mean. MJ could not hang with todays stars. He would have probably still started for most teams, but not been dominant at all whatsoever.
Kobe is more athletic and agile vs MJ. Not anymore that is however.

So you're saying put 5 ppg on every perimeter player who ever played in the 80s 90s? I fu.cking hate 80s 90s stans like you. He would have the same career. Just because these 80s 90s guys are your childhoods heroes doesn't mean shi.t.

I seriously just don't fuc.king understand how people just think older players are magically ALL better than anyone from the past 10 years. It makes no sense at all. Literally none. How are they magically better? Someone sit down and give me a big long write up on how 80s 90s players are just MAGICALLY ALL better than EVERY players from the past 10 years. I know people are gonna deny they think that and say it never happens on this forum but its so common its UNREAL.

:wtf: are you babbling about? When did I say every player...I said Jordan, who besides Lebron James, would be the most athletic player in the league today....also he put up 35-37...so last time I checked that would be 3 more ppg...which is kinda explained with the 2 to 3 more free throws, how is that hard to believe :facepalm

Jesse Owens ran a 9.4 with waffle shoes, piss poor tracks(not the high performance ones of today) less ability to train, due to times...what he would be worse today?

Jim Brown, 6'2 232lbs, 4.3 40, would have a hard time, but yet AP doesn't right?

Randy Johnson 100 mph fastball would be less effective today?

Sugar Ray Leonard couldn't box with the greats today, yet Mayweather at 35 is still beating these uber athletes ass

What you need to get through your young thick ass skull is there are some athletes that would dominate in any era, add in the training advances and performance enhanching equipment and those guys would improve dramatically. I guess in 10 years we will be sitting here talking about how Kobe would be horrible vs todays stars

Exactly, dude was a freak of nature. These young dudes act like the 80's and 90's were played by Cro Magnon...speaking of which

The earliest known remains of Cro-Magnon-like humans are radiocarbon dated to 43,000 years before present. However recent research suggests that the physical dimensions of so-called 'Cro-Magnon' are not sufficiently different enough from modern humans to warrant a separate designation

Yet on ISH, the athletes of today have advanced 1,000,000 times from 1993 to 2012:biggums:

MJ got crossed up by AI that was the clearest indication to MJ that he better get out of the league as a player, and stick to administration. He had a good run with the slowest and least agile Bird Magic Drexler. These guys would be warmups to today's dominant players. Rondo would humiliate Isaiah Thomas for instance. But then let's say how would LBJ and Kobe do in the upper 80s 90s. I think they were ALOT more physical but less agile back then. I think Kobe and LBJ would run circles around Malone Stockton Bird MJ. I think Jordan would keep up with the pace now, but not necessarily be as dominant ala LeBron.

MJ would be about the same as he was back then -- the best player in the league. Incredibly efficient, dominate, high IQ -- great at playing within the offense, letting things come to him. Kobe can do everything MJ does, but not as efficiently. Kobe also has more moves and superior range. But at the end of the day, Jordan gets the job done with all much as much style as Kobe (well, sometimes more, depends).

No 40 ppg or nothing like that -- but no doubt he'd be the best player in the league today. He is, after all, the greatest basketball player in NBA history.

please, Rondo get up WAY higher, and is way faster. Ok he is a terrible shooter that is the only negative. As far as Zekes crossover, may be the best ever, doesn't necessarily equate to anything nowadays, I dont think that he could get away with it now.
Rondo would strip him easily in video two, or attempt to, hence Zeke having to modify his dribble. That guy was a lazy defender. Clueless on D.

A faster game would benefit MJ. Todays game would benefit MJ. New rules would benefit MJ. If anything, MJ would be better, IMO

Michael has it all, IQ, skills, speed, jump shot, EVERYTHING -- EVERYTHING. Think of guys like Kobe, or guys like LeBron (who fill up the stat sheet doing everything), but with superior efficiency (guy is a career 50% shooter for crying out loud -- and he shoots a majority of fadeaways and jump shots!!) and while I can't prove this, but in my opinion, a far superior and tougher mental game where he destroys you mentally as well as physically. Jordan will shoot over you if you give him space, if you crowd him he will blow by you and throw it down. If you send the help, he will not side step and force a tough jumper, he'll hit the open man. He plays the game the right way -- watching all three play, I really like the way MJ plays the most.

edit: I noticed you edited your post -- so I'm editing mine. Jordan would still, in his prime, be one of the very most athletic players in the NBA. This is the dude that can dunk from the free-throw line. There are several, several HOF players that have never been able to do that. Incredible athleticism and speed. Also, Jordan has better body control and hang time then Kobe or LeBron, by far. He'll finish contact dunks where Kobe and LeBron will simply draw the foul and go for the reverse. I know Kobe and LeBron can finish contact dunks too, but not the same as guys like Vince Carter, Shawn Kemp or Michael Jordan, IMO

Prime Rondo vs Prime Zeke would probably be close (not from a legacy standpoint obviously Zeke is much more successful). But Rondo may be more agile, and athletic. Prime Zeke would shoot a phenomenal percentage compared to Rondo. Rondo cannot shoot that is a problem. Plus Allen may have stayed if Rondo's attitude was better, helping to further cement Rondo's legacy. He wants to be the best point guard ever in Boston.

You threw Rondo's name because you had no clue on Zeke's game. Anybody with any sort of ball knowledge saw through you from your 1st post, but that comparison put the nail in the coffin.

A far better comparison would've been Chris Paul and Zeke, as they're eerily similar players and athletes.

You are fxxking hilarious saying "Kobe more athletic and agile than MJ" :lol

He is, but I dont think he'd necessarily be as dominant now. The game is way faster now. Nobody knows how he would modify his game for the speed. Smartest does not always equal best. Athleticism trumps greatness sometimes, LBJ is by far the most athletic and agile ever. I hope that he comes back more hungry this season to prove my point.

TODAY'S ATHLETICISM IS OVERRATED.

What happened again to the 2012 Dream Team vs Spain.
These athletic machines you salivate to can't even dominate them un-athletic non-American white guys. :lol

2011 Finals - Dallas wins vs more athletic Miami
2012 Finals - Miami wins vs more athletic OKC

Basketball dominance is not all about athleticism and muscles :lol

Great players are great players regardless of era

And, today's athleticism is not much better than yesteryear's.

I repeat, the HIGH JUMP WORLD RECORD AND LONG JUMP WORLD RECORD HAVE STOOD THE TEST OF TIME. They were set in 1993 and 1991 respectively, the years that coincided with MJ's athletic dominance.

Dude, everything you've said tonight in this thread is spot on. I agree with all of it...100%. Good stuff.
Clearly you jest...

I wonder why kids today think humans have evolutionized faster in the last 20 years than humans have the previous 200,000 years.:facepalm

Seriously, what the hell is with this "modern players are better because they are bigger, stronger and more athletic" nonsense? It's like NBA has been overrun by wrestling fans. :biggums:

If Jordan can do this past his prime against these players, imagine what he would do to these same players if he played them in his prime?

Actually, it's the opposite. Modern players are smaller. We have Roy Hibbert as an All-STar center now! :facepalm Whereas before NBA had Ewing, Robinson, Hakeem, Shaq, etc. Look at how Bosh, KG, etc. are all being used as a center.

I can't believe that you even believe this. Jordan has more tools when it comes to scoring, than Lebron. Post up game, attack the basket, mid range game. How can someone like Wade be considered a Top 5 player in this era, yet Jordan who is better than Wade, bigger and stronger than Wade, more explosive than Wade going to struggle or not dominate? Again Jordan is smarter more athletic version of Kobe.....how is this difficult to understand.

Lebron and Kobe wouldn't run circles around everyone, because back then you were allowed to be more physical. What you guys keep failing to realize, is that the new rules allow guys to face up more and display a lot more of their athleticism. Kobe and Lebron would still be great in that era, once they adjusted to the style of play.

[QUOTE=juju151111]How when Mj was more athletic then Kobe :facepalm also u just said 2001 Kobe would be top 5, but just 2 seasons before that Mj was the best :facepalm[/QUOTE

Kobe had 81, I dont think that MJ could do that.

LMAO... not taking anything away from Kobe, that is a amazing accomplishment in itself but if u think Jordan was incapable of that type of outburst, you are kidding yourself.

Kobe: 81 points, 28-46 from the field

Jordan: 69 points, 23-37 from the field

Its similar to me asking, name the players who have scored 3,000 points in a season.....Kobe is not on that list or....# of scoring titles, number of 30 point seasons, playoff scoring :confusedshrug:

Prime Rondo vs Prime Zeke would probably be close (not from a legacy standpoint obviously Zeke is much more successful). But Rondo may be more agile, and athletic. Prime Zeke would shoot a phenomenal percentage compared to Rondo. Rondo cannot shoot that is a problem. Plus Allen may have stayed if Rondo's attitude was better, helping to further cement Rondo's legacy. He wants to be the best point guard ever in Boston.

First off Rondo is not more agile or athletic.....:facepalm
Rose, Westbrook yes....but then their jumper is garbage compared to Zeke

How does that make Hibbert smaller than those guys?

You kidding me he was WAY OFF MJ standards that year, he'd consistently do average or way below average, one 39 point game against TMac means nothing. MJ looked old but he was old.
