1. Drazen Petrovic
2. Reggie Miller
3. Larry Bird
4. Ray Allen
5. Glen Rice

About Drazen, ask any of those players under him who is the best shooter they ever seen and they will say Drazen, infact you can find quotes on most of them saying that, including Reggie (who i considered the best shooter ever). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EUo5p6D990

Nash is very accurate, but the volume is low compared to others... you have to consider the volume aswell (amount of of shots took and made, amount of difficult shots took and made).

Glen Rice at one point averaged 47% 3PT accuracy on 440 attempts (207 made shots) while averaging 27 PPG that season.... That is to brutal...

Rice and Nash are almost within 100 3pters from each other (Rice's 3896 attempts to Nash's 3785). That's a better sample than a single season, imo. And Nash has a career percentage of .428, while Rice is at .400.

Rice has shot over 40% from 3 only four times in his entire career.
Nash? Four times... Oh wait, that's how many 50-40-90 seasons he has. 13 times he has shot over 40% from 3. You can say 12 since he didn't attempt many in his rookie season.

Nash has the highest free throw percentage in NBA history.

Even his overall fg% is at 49%. I mean he's almost a 50-40-90 career average player, ffs. Although I will admit that fg% isn't a necessary indicator of a shooter's ability. Obviously.

Steve Nash is the best shooter in NBA history.

Not only his stats tell the story but the people that have seen him play.

And it is amazing how many BASKETBALL FANS DONT watch Steve Nash play.

The best PG of the era....in debate of all-time, Magic Level....and people dont see it.

Its so sad.

IMO Steve Nash isnt only the best Shooter of all-time he is the best PG of all-time.

But soon Goran Dragic will change history.

Edit: I guess the only good thing I can say about him going to LA is it will open more eyes.

To be fair he takes those shots because he lacks the ability to get open.

Its a common trait.

I see so many players take difficult shots because they cant shake the defneder.

Kobe just isnt that gifted on offense. His defender shadows him so he developed a way to shoot the ball despite having a defender on him.

This results in his TERRIBLE fg%.

Remember to take into account that the 3pt line was shorter at that time.

It was, but not any significant margin... but ok, how about 1988-89 then where Dale Ellis shot 48% 3PT accuracy on 162 of 339 while also averaging 28 PPG (shot 50% FG overall)......

Infact what Dale Ellis did in 1988-89 is worthy of being labeled the 2nd best player in the NBA today... same numbers as Durant but with even higher accuracy...

Shout out to Steve Kerr for guys that could stroke but didn't really create as much.

There have been a lot of great shooters, but the one that always sticks out in my mind when this topic comes up is Drazen. I was a kid when he died, but from the games I've seen on classics, and from the tapes and highlights I've seen I just sit in awe of his ability to shoot at will. More so than anyone else I will just marvel at it. It was crazy. And the stuff I have seen confirms what I hear most people talking about when Drazen is mentioned.

One of the biggest What If's in sports in my opinion...

ppl like to talk about the role players and thats great and all but when looking at the best shooters all time you usually look at the guys who were the featured guy on offense their whole career like ray, reggie, and bird...i still feel that ray and bird were the best scorers out of all the 3 point shooters with guys like reggie, mullin, and rice right up there

the problem with grouping role players with stars is that the pure shooting stars actually have to deal with defenders

the role players like kerr etc... only shot when they were wide open

the stars like bird had to create a shot for themselves

so IMO role player shooters are bums and should never be listed in such a debate

best pure shooters ever are guys like rick barry, reggie miller, ray allen, larry bird

if i had to pick one.. i'd go with ray allen... his shot technique puts him over the awkward styles of barry, miller and bird..
plus the all time 3 point record doesnt hurt either

Well, we're talking career wise aren't we? If not, then it changes everything. But career wise I'd give a slight nod over Rice. Nash has career averages of 49.1%/42.8% (3.3 3PA/game)/90.4% versus Rice @ 45.6%/40% (3.9 3PA/game)/84.6%.

I'm not trying to name someone new just for the hell of it but I seriously think Steph Curry is going to end up being the best shooter the NBA has ever seen. Not saying he's the best right now, let alone all time, but he has a good shot at it.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/curryst01.html

He takes 4.7 3FGA per game and drains 44% of them for his career. He does this while creating the shots mostly by himself.

He will only get better. That shot is also the best looking shot imo.

Anyways good responses so far. Some things to consider when factoring in the best shooter:

large body of work/career (volume shooters)
TS%, FG% on so many shots made, FT%, 3PT%

Chris Mullin

To add on to what another poster said, if healthy, I think Steph Curry can become a legendary shooter. He has a nice high, quick release and is so accurate.

agreed. curry's shooting form is a beaut. mullin's mid-range game was too sick in his prime.

i haven't really seen him mentioned much but i'll give an overlooked/underrated shoutout to mitch richmond

1. Drazen Petrovic
2. Reggie Miller
3. Larry Bird
4. Ray Allen
5. Glen Rice

About Drazen, ask any of those players under him who is the best shooter they ever seen and they will say Drazen, infact you can find quotes on most of them saying that, including Reggie (who i considered the best shooter ever). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EUo5p6D990
Reggie has changed his mind since then..He said on that full court show with Shaq, Barkley, etc that he considers himself the best shooter of all time...

Edit: I guess the only good thing I can say about him going to LA is it will open more eyes.
what are you eating?

Best pure shooter? IMO Miller, Allen or Mulln.
