perhaps we should rename these threads to 'Top 10 NBA Player Peaks of All-Time According to ISH' then, and start a new poll series for single-year peaks (since the language of 'primes' and 'peaks' is ambiguous, we could go in that direction)?

That's basically the same thing.

Someone's peak is one moment in time.

The only reason we were discussing 2 or 3 years for a player is because we wanted to increase our sample size of games.

Anyway, the only player this really even changes things with is Dirk and his ridiculous playoffs last year.

Well, it was a valiant effort. We kept the LeBron v Kobe argument away for a while then once #5 started, well :lol

I say next time we do a season peak top 10 or something. Something more specific. If I were to do a top 10 peak, it'd be:
1) Jordan '91
2) Shaq '00/Wilt '67
4) Hakeem '94
5) Here's where it gets tough and my list isn't as definitive. Magic '87
6) Bird '86
7) Duncan '03
8) Russell '65
9) Walton '77
10) LeBron '12

Why does "shot-jacking" Kobe Bryant have 3 Playoff runs to the NBA Finals where he shot more efficiently than Barkley in his lone Playoff run to the NBA Finals?

Barkley '93 Playoffs: .488 eFG%, .552 TS%

Kobe '08 Playoffs: .514 eFG%, .577 TS%
Kobe '09 Playoffs: .492 eFG%, .564 TS% (won Championship)

That's not Peak Barkley. Peak Barkley was on Philly. Typical Kobe Bryant teenage fanboy that thinks 93 was the only year Barkley was relevant. Wrong, it was the only year he had a great team around him thus giving him his longest playoff run. He was much better on Philly before he stopped shooting so many threes.

Peak Barkley > Peak Kobe.

It's just something to piddle around with while we wait until a new season starts. A better list would have required a detailed explanation to accompany each vote and go through a vetting process by which voters can decide whether the explanation is well-grounded (even if you don't agree with it) before accepting it as a vote (a vote on whether to accept a vote!). It wouldn't weed out all the idiotic votes, but definitely most of them.

well, I've listed all of the posters, in the second post with the results and linked the corresponding threads, so every poster can make his/her own decisions as to which votes to count (I don't feel I should act as judge + jury)

needless to say I'm disappointed that the last thread turned into another Kobe-LeBron war and forced me to cut the polling short of the 10 full threads I had initially wanted, but it was just a minor project so it's not a huge deal

How is Kobe's 2008 - 2010 ranked the 5th greatest peak of all-time?

That three year stretch is only as good as past his prime MJ's 1996 - 1998 run from a statistical perspective.

Yet MJ won 3 rings as opposed to 2 rings. This list is terrible.

Feel free to use this thread for postmortem discussion. I have some issue with the order, but this isn't an awful top 10 (11), sequence aside.

So much for Wilt not being #1 according to most posters due to "not winning enough", but somehow, Russell, with 4 titles, all as his team's best player, 3 MVP's, 2 rebounding titles (also, probably a few seasons as a blocks leader) and while being the inarguably best defender in the league and the arguably best passing big man in the league, loses to just about any other GOAT candidate, even the ones who have less god-like stats than Wilt and more comparable to Russell's, while still winnng less...
Kobe at #5 above Russell, Kareem, Magic, Bird or LeBron is laughable as well, and I'm a Kobe fan. So, let's put it straight: If 2006-09 Kobe is greater than 1987-90 Magic or 1984-87 Bird, what exactly is supposed to be Magic's/Bird's argument overall, career-wise, above Kobe?
Bill Walton's impact in these 2 seasons was impressive, but it seems unfair to me that we're comparing 4 year peaks for any other player to a 2 year peak for him. The margins of peak duration among the competitors should be either 0 or 1 year and I'd pick 1980-83 Moses or 2002-05 Duncan over 1975-78 Walton.

You should make a best coaches of all time thread, I'd be intrested in seeing where guys like Pop and Riley land. Also with coaches you wouldn't have to deal with the Kobe/Lebron homerism.

Kobe from 06-08 put up 32/6/5/2/58% TS/26 PER with 54 different 40+ point games and 20 different 50+ point games. 3X All-NBA 1st Team. NBA MVP.

What's so laughable about him being there? :confusedshrug:
