So who else is looking forward to this tomorrow?! I've been an apple product consumer for now 4 years. I've had like 3 iPods, and recently in May I bought an iPad. Now I'm really excited because I've been due for an upgrade for months, and with this new iPhone coming out I've decided I'd just get this.

Also, changes to the iPod and iPod Touch lineup are rumored, along with iOS6 and a bunch of other stuff.

So, you've already convinced your parents to buy you yet another redundant Apple product? Good on you, man. I wish my parents were that liberal with many when I was a kid.

I've got a 3yo 3GS that's on it's last legs, been looking forward to this. If it's just an updated 4 with a slightly longer screen I'm gonna look at a Samsung or the new Nokia Lumia. I just want it to look different to a 4 :oldlol:

It's my bro. He was questioning what to get me for my birthday and he didn't know, so he just decided to leave it up for me to decide a phone that I want. I'll be paying the monthly bill though as I work on the weekends.

:wtf: What's up with people assuming that parents have to be insanely generous to get their children an iPhone. 6 of my 9 closest friends have an iPhone 4 or 4S. Almost everyone in the school has an iPhone as well.

When can we reserve the phone via our carrier?

EnoughSaid

Why have you had 3 ipods in 4 years?

Well I got a Nano in like 2008, then my brother bought me the newer Nano in like 2010, and then I got the small watch nano when it came out.

I'll definitely pass on the iPhone 5, just like all the other renditions. I'm keeping my eyes on Blackberry 10 developments.

What can the new one do that the current one can't?

Faster processor, more RAM, longer screen and better quality viewing. Probably faster in a bunch more departments and then you get iOS6 on there.

Yes it does. Is your current phone broken? Then you don't have to upgrade, you're spoiled and you jizzed when you saw the new iphone that you can show all your kiddie friends. :lol I've had that phone for 3 years, ipod classic for 4.

What can the new one do that the current one can't?

According to the rumors:

Faster processor
Thinner
better battery life
LTE
Longer screen
New screen technology
Improved camera
Bigger speakers
Smaller dock connector (possibly magsafe)
New earphones
New design
Possibly newer version of Gorilla Glass
Unibody encasing (making it stronger, lighter, more durable)

Along with new iOS 6 and possibly new services that have yet to be mentioned. One feature that I'm looking forward to is 'Passbook'. Apple's version of NFC technology. It's basically a digital wallet that lets you store your cards, tickets, coupons etc.etc. of course, it's the 'implementation' that'll make it useful since there's already apps and phones that have similar functionalities/features.

According to the rumors:

Faster processor

Not quite. When you look at the benchmarks, there's hardly any difference.

Thinner

wow really so all the new Iphone offers is that its .5 inch thinner? Okay cool.

better battery life

unconfirmed.

LTE
Longer screen

Here goes Apple copying Samsung again.

New screen technology

False, screen with builtin touch is not a "new" screen technology.
It has been in use wildly since the 00s. Just because Apple id last to the party and starts using something doesn't make it "new" dumbass. "New screen technology" LMAO. wow talk about being a sheeple and straight up clueless.

Improved camera

Really? thats not an upgrade.

Bigger speakers

Now you are just reaching.

Smaller dock connector (possibly magsafe)

This has nothing to do with the Iphone 5.

New earphones

Again nothing to do with the Iphone 5.

New design

Actually there is no new design. Its just taller with a much smaller battery.
Its thinner because the battery size was reduced. Thats the only difference between the 4 and 5. and dont even get me started with 4 and 4s gimmick.

Possibly newer version of Gorilla Glass

Just stop you are embrassing yourself. At this point its funny at best

Unibody encasing (making it stronger, lighter, more durable)
We are talking about the iphone 5 device. Not whether it got a face lift. Get it right.

IO6 exists in i4. All you have said here is regurgitated nonsense from a typical fanboy. Only an iphone sheeple will somehow turn the fact that the iphone is missing a crucial feature "NFC" into a good thing with their blatant deluded rationalization.

Still have a bit over a year left on my 4S contract. 199$ upfront and 15$ a month for their required data plan, so that is 360$ data over the course of two years. Not that expensive to own and easily worth 200+ in a year and I'll just use that to upgrade to the next Iphone. Not in any hurry to get the 5.

I'll prob be getting it since I currently use an Android phone and before that I had the 3GS. I like switching things up every couple of years.

Good for Apple, they are only 2 years late on the 4G front, but it won't matter I'm sure their fanboys will still act like Apple invented it. There is no such thing as 4G for cell users, It's just dedicated 3G renamed for marketing purposes. Actual 4G is controlled by the US Military and is for GPS purposes only. (public and military use)

It's faster only as long as it's not over polluted with users, once everyone is on the fake 4G band or LTE the older less used 3G bands will be rededicated, renamed and faster. It's a techno shell game.

You guys are actually the sheep. Why do you want to carry a monstrosity of a phone? Droid phones are freaking too big and it's funny as hell that I see people carrying around those things because they think it's cool.

Give me an Iphone all day everyday. Small and thin and can do a lot.

Sometimes it isn't about software or specs....form factor is very important.

I remember a time when cell phones were like bricks. Then they made it smaller and smaller. Which was great. Then they got bigger and bigger because phones became mini-computers.

I like what Apple is doing and that is by sticking with the same attitude...and that's form factor.

Enjoy carrying that big @ss phone while the Iphones will always be a classic when it comes to form factor and function.

Remember, it's still a phone.

Androids are nice, my report has one and he shows me how to do a ton of things on it that are real cool. That said, this is a thread about IPHONE 5 and it's unveiling, not Iphone 5 vs. Android, or which phone is better, etc. Using the thread as a forum to argue one phone against another is just obnoxious.

Good for Apple to take the iconic Iphone and taking it to the next level.

Love that they didn't make it as huge as most phones on the market. Slight increase in size but still very manageable in the pocket.

Make it bigger but not wider due to form factor. It feels real good in your hand when you are talking.

I was using another friend's phone and it just doesn't hold well in the hands when talking.

Apple's entire notion was related to its usability for most people. Making it wider would make it awkward for most people to hold and operate, that wouldn't be the case if it's taller.

to be honest here, the iPhone is perfect form factor in your hands. You can practically do everything in one hand.

These big phones today suck because you have to use two hands to do things because the radius of your thumb cannot cover the entire screen.

Your thumb's radius can cover an entire iPhone screen due to it's great size.

Calm down lol. I like Android more too, but acting like this wasn't a good update to the phone isn't smart. It was a good update. They finally made the screen bigger, added 4G, further improved the speed and software.

It is slightly ironic though because before the catchy thing about Apple was how simple it was to use, but since then they've gotten the notifications bar from Android, and now the "command center" type thing where you can control brightness, auto rotate, music playing etc. but they've got the separate (one you drag with one finger down, the other you drag with 2 fingers upward) which is actually more complicated than Android makes it, yet Android is too complicated.

I don't know, some people are just a little too loyal to a bran, but you're doing the exact opposite, hating on the good things, just because you think they should've come earlier.

I dislike how thin phones are getting. Maybe it's just a personal preference, but I still feel like the 3GS has had the best form factor. It just fits perfectly in my hand. Feels good to hold, and just nice form all around.

Might upgrade to this in January. Depends on how well iOS 6 runs on my 3GS. I know people complained about 5 ruining it, but personally I think it still runs pretty solidly.

I'm the opposite. I want something thinner and lighter.

My main concern (aside from battery) is the front glass. The back aluminum plate will ease many user's fears, but how about the front glass?

But the new iPhone really doesn't impress me, a 4 inch screen is not a great upgrade to start with. I've had the S2 who had a 4.3 inch screen and I never felt that it was too big and I even switche to the Galaxy Note with a 5.3 screen and had very little problem with it's size.

But you got to realize that other big companies like Samsung, Nokia, Sony and HTC have plenty of new phone's all the time. It's only Apple who got their one release per year thingy going on. Almost every elite phone from every company makes sense.

The LTE is nothing new and I don't really don't feel that the new iPhone is something I would desire to have. I mean, a 4 inch screen and minor changes is gonna make the new iPhone look ancient in a couple of months compared to their competitors.

I love my iPhone 4s but I can tell you for sure that I'm not going to buy the new iPhone if I decide to buy a new phone in like 6 months or so.

4 inch screen, 1.2 mpix front camera and LTE is basically what it everyone are getting crazy about. All those things have been around for years.

Yes, the 4s is still damn good and you know that I own one as well but honestly, investing in a iPhone 5 now with those tiny upgrades is pure stupidity and they have not upgraded their stuff enough to compete with that phone for a year 'til their next release. You got to realize that the top notch phones today, like the HTC ONE X is already 5-6 months old and the Galaxy S3 is 3 months old and both those companies release new phones way more often than Apple.

A 4 inch screen? Had it two years ago.

LTE? Nothing new.

1.2 megapixel front camera? Had a 2 megapixel front camera 18 months ago.

You must not go out very often.

When I do, I am usually doing something with friends or running errands, so I don't use my phone for browsing when I'm out.

I am very social and I like to converse with friends and people that are with me. So I don't need a big phone to browse the web.

My friends and I are not those people you see at restaurants, where the entire party of people are staring into their phones.

Some people just couldn't care less if it came out already on Android or whatever. They are comfortable with the iOS and they are going to stick with it. So to a lot of people, bigger screen and LTE is huge for them.

No one said that you need a Galaxy Note a la 5'3 inch screen.

And the iPhone is not the best phone "out there", with these small upgrades the iPhone 5 looks pretty bad compared to the Galaxy S3 who's already 3 months old and both Samsung and HTC are dropping some more bad ass cellphones soon..

I don't really care about size, I have a 4S now but the 9empire kid was making a huge deal about phones with bigger screen's than 4 inches, if girl's can use 4'5 inch phones without a problem then he'll be able to do so as well.

Was more looking for a decent reply in why anyone would think it's worth to buy it over the 4s. And I don't mean "why" as in having a desire to have the newest Apple-product, more why anyone would think that the few changes would be worth an upgrade.

Actually, the constant releases are targeted at multiple consumers. Whereas the iPhone, only one, is targeted at three demographic really. Fashion enthusiasts, people who have no clue what they are doing, and social outcasts.

Samsung for example. Releases phones like Note II, which is targeted at people like me. People who need a powerful device everywhere they go, with a stylus system. SIII is there target at the high-end phone owners, they have smaller models to fit people with small hands, they have phones with qwerty keyboards, qwerty slide phones, phones that are rugged for people who travel or do wild-like hobbies, more affordable options whilst still maintaining top level hardware in such price ranges.

Apple? Releases one phone, every year, one price range, not so versatile, for 3 pitiful demographics. You're apart of it, which makes me laugh.

traditionone

Most people who upgraded to iphone 4S should wait till next year when they're eligible for another upgrade before buying another device. Can't forget about 2 year upgrade cycles when judging devices or making this kind of purchase decision. This should be targeted to users who upgraded to iphone 4 2 years ago who are due for an upgrade. If you have the money to burn, knock yourself out. If your iphone 4S is working just fine for you, it's not the financially responsible thing to buy an iphone 5 at full price just to have an iphone 5. Wait a year, get an iphone 5S or 6 at the upgrade discounted price with a new 2 year carrier contract.

Only recently was it set aside only for Adobe to pursue HTML 5 and its future.

However, flash is still available, and thanks to the open-software of Android, it will be around forever, till eventually HTML takes on video support with ease on mobile interfaces, only then will Flash become obsolete. But right now, it's not.

android doesnt have "flash code" built into it.
some android phones will have flash player preloaded.

But as of august 2012, adobe is no longer supporting flash on android and they removed it from the play store.

of course you can still download the most recent flash player 11.1 apk.
Android has flash support code in it. Not only that, practically every competitive phone in the market has flash built in, and every custom rom is the same way. Sure, flash support was dropped, but it's still around. You state it as if it's a con to have it. Which I don't get. It's not an argument. Somewhat agree. Asshole is the objective here initially. But someone called out my phone, and I responded to the idiot. He's gone now, and we all can breathe.

When I'm on the streets, and I'm waving my phone around, every now and then I'll get a comment about my S II X from a witty iPhone user. But, I never once have ever called out an iPhone user. Not once. I can recall several times when I'm on the bus or subway and some half-ass clown makes a remark about my phone vs his iPhone. Just the other day, I'm at the library, I pull out my phone, these two guys sitting across from me go "Ha, look at that" and pointing at my phone. I gave them a murderous look, and the conversation didn't go anywhere.

I honestly can't go a week without, especially with the recent court issues, and now the iPhone 5? I'm just getting started unfortunately. So forgive me if I come out bitter, I guess it just comes with the phone.

im actually an android supporter. I have a galaxy s3.
Im just saying android doesnt have "flash code" built in.
Flash is either installed or its not installed. Which is very easy to do, just download the flash apk and install it.

Nothing i said was wrong. I said some phones will have flash built in. Phones that will natively come with JB will not however.
The guy said most Androids don't have flash built in. However, I can't recall an major phone in the Android market that doesn't have flash support.

Flash support has been built into the Android OS since 2.2.

This is old stuff man.

It has been proven repeatedly that the iPhone performs faster then the higher specced phones. They're just better on 'paper' that's it. The iPhone's tight integration between OS and hardware allows them to make it run much faster and efficiently than what the specs indicate. Which is why even with these over clocked phones still don't run as smooth as iPhones as a whole.

Specs don't usually tell the whole story.

People need to stop staring at spec sheets and use those as a gauge of how the phone performs. Those are a halfway decent place to start, but you could have super awesome hardware in a phone and have it be a moot point if it leaks and freezes and just generally trips all over itself.... Plain and simple, iOS does not need anywhere near the same hardware specs to keep up with perceived performance on the user level. Add to that the fact that the grubby carriers insist on saddling the Android phones with crappy bloatware, and the manufacturers add their terrible, buggy, laggy, POS UIs on top of them, and it doesn't matter if you're using the flagship processor from the year 2050, it's not going to keep up.

Add to that the fact that the grubby carriers insist on saddling the Android phones with crappy bloatware, and the manufacturers add their terrible, buggy, laggy, POS UIs on top of them, and it doesn't matter if you're using the flagship processor from the year 2050, it's not going to keep up.

shut your stupid mouth. check the software benchmarks, iphone is no where on top. for example internet browsing. IE on Nokia is actually on top on that benchmark the last time i checked.

So shut your stupid mouth. You dont even know what benchmarks are. All these things can be tested and quantified and we don't have to take your sheepified notions.

Dumbass question... how much more expensive (if any) are monthly payments for smartphones compared to regular ones?
The cheapest AT&T Iphone data plan is 20$ for 300mb a month. I'm still grandfathered on their old 200MB 15$ plan. :oldlol: If you constantly check facebook and etc when you're out, then you're going to want to get their 30$ 3GB plan.

You see, this is why nobody can trust anything you post. You post nonsense with no evidence to back it up, and to someone who actually HAS used multiple smartphones side by side constantly, I can tell you that you're wrong.

I am the person who tests all phones for my business (Fortune 500 company with over 5,000 employees) before we can offer it as an "Approved device."

I can tell you that the S3, SIIx, and Galaxy Nexus all outperform the 4s. Download speeds, smoothness of UI, customization, anything you can point to.

iPhone 5? No clue, it's not out yet. But I doubt it'll be any better than the S3 (which has been out for weeks). And I KNOW it won't perform any better than high-end Android phones coming in the next few months.

And don't even get me started on iTunes... :facepalm

Basically you walk into a MS store and your phone competes with a Windows Phone in some simple tasks like posting to FB, looking for a restaurant, etc. The trick is that the Windows Phone is geared towards these tasks. (which can be accomplished via apps and widgets in iOS and Android phones)

It's like a carnival game, the game is tilted to favor the house. In this case, the games favor the windows phone because the windows phone has some "apps" (if you will) built-in and immediately accessible by default; while the same functionality could be put in an android or ios phone (if the user cared enough to do so), it isn't by default and thus when you step up to the plate, chances are you'll lose. Also, the windows phone operator does this 8 hours a day, for weeks at a time - so, in a handful of say 4 or 5 tasks, they are extremely adept at knowing where and when to press without even thinking about it. Lastly, it seems that they pick the "task" to complete depending on which type of phone you have and how old it is.

The user with the best chance at winning would be one that practically lives on their phone - e.g. an android or ios analog of the person running the windows phone.

Declaring that a windows phone "smokes" android or ios because the game is rigged to favor the windows phone is disingenuous.

And, yep to this. However, some people have beaten the system using Android widgets (I'm guessing iPhones get those in 2013 or maybe 2014).

The guy said most Androids don't have flash built in. However, I can't recall an major phone in the Android market that doesn't have flash support.

Flash support has been built into the Android OS since 2.2.

The A6 hasn't even be tested yet. So it's not about how many cores, it's about how powerful the cores are themselves.

"Incremental changes" is true because it's really hard to mess with perfection. The first generation iPhone was the best phone ever and you just refine perfection.

Look at all these companies that are making copy cat Apple product and design.

Iphone 4 is a fantastic phone and still destroys most phones out there so perfecting that would be hard.

LOL, you're bashing android throughout this whole thread. It's great that you like the iphone, but when you start making up complaints like the "big" size issue when nearly everyone I know that has an android loves the size of the phones, it just comes off as disingenuous. It's not just for browsing either, it's everything. I use my GPS and the extra real estate on the screen when I mount it on the car makes a huge difference.
