If Rose was healthy I wouldn't even think twice before picking him to build a team around that could win a championship next year.
Rondo would get a lot of consideration aswell.

I feel that his inability to shoot or create for himself consistently is a big hole in his game and affects the way teams can defend Boston. It's a little suspect that they had the 3rd worst offense last season with him running the show.

I think he can create consistently for himself. However, I feel the fact that he has created a play style where he almost never does makes him better. Because he always has another bullet to pull out. And over the last few years we have seen that he can consistently pull it out.
Personally, I don't think the last two Celtic teams were very good. IMO the only reason they had a chance was because Rondo turned into a truly elite player. Guy is a master at getting the best out of his teammates. And he isnt just some pick and roll spammers racking assists, the guy is a top 2 facilatator of offense in the league. I have him over CP3 bchehe is under achieving too much and still doesn't always understand the balance between pass and shoot. Also, he hasn't been able to mesh the talent on the Clippers. Rondo is able to make others players the focal point while still dominating. CP3 has to always be the focal point no matter what.

its unbelievable to me how often so many Laker/Kobe fans, can't tell which, put down their players to hype/justify Kobe. Bynum has only been one of the more dominant players in the NBA this year when he's been healthy and emphasized...
you guys have always been so ignorant is bliss regarding the talent you have, especially the size mismatches which every other team/fan knows that you're biggest advantage, but you want Kobe taking 25~ shots a game from the perimeter, and say everyone else sux
one bad Bynum game when Kobe wasn't playing doesn't automatically mean he can't be a 1st option or he HAD to have Kobe....Lakers lost to the Wizards, almost to NO's and some other tanking team i can't remember with both of them earlier in the year. losing last night isn't just on Bynum...

Amare dropped 30 spots, despite dealing with injuries, death in the family, etc. Derrick Rose didn't drop 30 spots and he will be gone the entire season.
And Melo at 17 is an absolute joke. Once D'Antoni was gone, Melo was putting up MVP numbers in April.

I'm guessing most of the voters are more-or-less basing this off what they did this past season, not what they think will do next year. So it shouldn't really be a big surprise Amare dropped and Rose didn't.

What did Steph Curry do better than Amare? 15/5 in 26 games played? What did Zach Randolph do better than Amare? 11/8 in 28 games played?
Amare, despite injury, despite playing with about 7 different pgs, despite his brother dying, put up 18/8 in 47 games.

We were mad at him last year because we know how capable of a player he is, but he would consistently just...not really show up. He still put up close to his career averages last year. Considering the fact that he got traded...oops wait no nevermind "basketball reasons", he did all right given the circumstances.
I know you love Amare, but the dude is a bum now. Bosh is all right, but he does not bring all the qualities that Pau Gasol brings. Gasol is probably the most versatile big man in the league.
I don't get why people get all upset at ESPN rankings anyway. They will probably have Blake Griffin at #3 BECAUSE HE DUNKED OVER A KIA EXPLOSIVE POSTERS!!! :facepalm

The point is, they should be ranked either according to potential or actual results, and not a mish mash of whatever they feel like for each player.
Pau's stats were not impressive last year. Dirk came into the season completely out of shape and put up 15/5 in January.
Melo was player of the month in April putting up 30/7/3.5 on 49%.
Basically fck BullShitProgrammingNetwork and all their biases. They all come from Boston and always go out of their way to shit on NY teams and players.

Pau put up 17.4 PPG/10.4 RPG/3.7 APG/1.4 BLKPG on .501% shooting. That's pretty darn good, especially considering it was a "down" year for him. He averaged a double-double and nearly 4 APG as a big who was constantly being traded everywhere, supposedly old and overpaid and horribly mis-used by Mike Brown.

They both finished 36-30. He never had a 25/10 month, and finished with .5 more rebounds per game, and didn't come close to 55% in any month.
Go look up Melo's boxscores in April, when Lin and Amare went down, while playing with Mike Bibby as his PG.

6 Kobe (8.88) - I don't know if I have a huge problem with him here, but he absolutely cannot be behind Rose (whether this is based on last season or next season, it's still a farce)
7 Love (8.86) - I haven't watched him enough to argue this, but shouldn't his teams be winning more if he's top 7???
8 Wade (8.77) - complete disgrace, ESPN completely destroyed any credibility they had by putting him this low
9 Westbrook (8.76) - should be ahead of Rose, healthy or not
10 DWill (8.69) - shouldn't sniff the top 10, so 10 is the best place for him
They list their criteria as an evaluation 1-10 by voters of "the current quality of each player." Rose???

That's a hard question to answer. I think a huge chunk of the reasoning for Love being ranked 7th is because he hasn't even entered his prime yet and his still improving, in essence they are projecting him to get better. On the other hand, you have players like Dirk and Wade who have plateaued and/or declining.

i guess. Still odd to me because Kevin Love hasn't even shown he could be a number 1 on a playoff team. There are 7 other players who would have gotten that team to the playoffs.

You guys are not being logical at the same time.
Players like Kobe, who played most of the season, could have simply regressed to the point below Rose (who is still in his early 20's). It has little to do with how they did last season, since Rose was injured and Kobe definitely had a worse year (last year) in comparison to his 2011 season. I mean he had a pretty inefficient year, lets be honest.
That's how ESPN perceives it, I believe Kobe got a score of 9.40 last year, no?
This year he got 8.88.
The problem I have with this ranking is Kevin Love.
They've basically said that Kobe is only 0.02 better then Love, that is absurd. I'm not even going to mention the disrespect Dirk, Wade and even Westbrook got by being ranked behind Love.
I will say this one last time, KEVIN LOVE IS NOT AN IMPACT PLAYER. He is efficient but he shoots like a guard, he's a machine on the glass but he is a liability defensively. He is an alright passer though. I really just don't like him, I would take Gasol, Bosh and LA over Love any day. Dirk is a no brainer to me either. I'd rank Love the 4th or 5th best PF, and the 8th or 9th best big man behind the players I have already named plus Bynum, Howard, and Garnett.
So in conclusion I'd have him ranked somewhere in the late teens.
Nash led a very mediocre team to playoff contention, even with all the injuries in Minnesota, Love still couldn't achieve similar results. I'd take Nash over him in a heart-beat, impact wise, Nash is in the top fifteen without a doubt. Better then Griffin, Gasol and maybe even Bynum.
I'm sensing it will be Rose, Paul, Howard, Durant and James. I would be shocked if the order is different. Only possible change would be Howard over Durant.
Blah, Love is so overrated it's sickening now. Guy hasn't even sniffed the playoffs yet... better then a PF who led his team to a championship just two years ago? Unreal. Dirk is easily top ten still, and Melo is way to low.
These rankings are terrible, but it's ESPN after all. It seems like they just throw names out after the top 20 or so.

Regarding people who say that CP3 should be ahead of Rose:
"better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt"
Ironically this can be apply to the players in question as well because everyone thinks Rose is a scrub now since he didn't play but CP proved he is a scrub last year against the Spurs

Tyson Chandler over M. Gasol, Harden, Duncan, Pierce, Horford, J. Smith is a little crazy IMO.
I've been saying this before, Chandler has been one of the most overrated players in the league since the Mavs won the championship.

Wade at 8?! This is just like the 08-09 season where everyone was doubting him. Keep doing it, and we'll see what happens. :facepalm

I wouldn't be surprised if that's their goal. Kobe and Wade at 6 and 8?

You can't really argue Kobe any higher than #5. I guess if you want to say he's #4 ahead of Dwight due to Dwight being injured and not having much of an ipmact last season, that's fine, but he's still not a better player at this point in his career than a healthy Dwight.
Not sure about Wade at #8 either. I'd definitely take a healthy (by Wade standards) over Kevin Love and, next year anyway, I could see him surpassing Kobe. Not sure he should be any higher than #6 or #5 based on last year, though.
The Rose top 5 ranking is confusing as well. A healthy Rose definitely has a case for top 5, but he's not going to be healthy next year. We don't even know if he'll be back before March or maybe even the playoffs. At the same time, you can't just completely drop him down to like #20 or #30, either. Not sure what their criteria are. If it's based mostly on last season, based mostly on what they think they'll be next season, or a combination of both. With 100+ different people voting I'm sure there's a lot of variation.

lol at Josh Smith so low, without doubt the most underrated player in the leauge.
LaMarcus Aldridge is probably more underrated than Smith.

I kind off think it differently. Kobe and Wade being any higher than #6 would be getting there because of reputation. I actually don't have a problem with Wade's ranking, but I do think Kobe and Wade should be a spot next to each other.
Agreed with Rose. He's going to miss the majority of the season and he's Top 5 ? Purely of reputation of his MVP year. You can't even guage him properly because of this injury. If it was possible, I would have put his status as an incomplete.
I think Love should be Top 10 and I can probably see improve more this year.

Rose in the Top 5? Injured? Really ESPN? I love Rose and is a top 5 player when healthy, but come on, he won't even be relevant next season (or he shouldn't be, he really should take the whole season off imo)

and there we have it the ESPN voters have just removed all doubt about themselfs. I guess they forgot what happened when Bulls played the Clippers last year? what a bunch of brainwashed idiots.

Deron Williams is #10 but Paul Pierce isn't in the top 25.
Seriously...Deron has no argument over either Pierce or Rondo. Pierce is always underrated. And when it comes time for playoffs, not only is Rondo much better than Deron but he's better throughout the playoffs than Deron is at his peak in the regular season...that's crazy.
The whole list is stupid...and like someone said, Derrick Rose wins the MVP and is #8. Derrick Rose misses over a third of the season, his team still has the best record, and he is going to miss more than half of the upcoming season...he is now #5. Que?

Ummm..he didn't have a great series but he was paying hurt, and it was noticeable.

Last year CP3 was #4 ahead of Dirk, Durant, Kobe, and Rose, which really made absolutely no sense at all. He coasted the whole regular season like he didn't care that much and then had one great playoff series. Made no sense for him to be ahead of the Finals MVP, scoring champ and WC finalist, the previous 2 Finals MVP, and the MVP and EC Finalist. He deserves to be there this year, but last year made no sense at all.
Cant wait for Kobe to go: "Not bad for the 6th best player in the NBA..." after a scoring outburst... :)

CP3 hasn't been performing for the last couple of years. I think its time he show us his talent again before people just anoint him.

Well some of it probably wasn't about Rose himself but rather his competition on this list...two of the guys ahead of him last year, Wade and Dirk, declined heavily.
And Chicago's poor playoff performance without him this year can certainly be an argument used in Rose's favor. Going from an ECF team (and losing to Miami) to a first round-and-out team (and losing to Igoudala's Sixers) is a big drop off.
That being said though, due to Rose's injury and the fact that we don't even know if he will ever be as quick as he once was, I don't really like him at 5.

His rank went up but his score is worse than last year.
