View Full Version : Ron Artest in Peak Shape (Report)

Metta World Peace is in absolute peak shape. Much was made last season about how MWP came in out of shape and didn’t find himself until halfway through the season due in part to injuries he wasn’t able to treat during the lockout. But he says he’s 15 pounds lighter than he was last fall, and from watching him play, he’s not lying. We interviewed Antawn Jamison after the scrimmage, and he couldn’t stop raving about how great MWP looks and is playing. With attention focused on Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Dwight Howard, this could spell trouble for opponents.
- Speaking of Antawn Jamison, you can see almost immediately why he’s averaged 19.5 points per game for his career. The guy just has a knack for the bucket, whether it’s utilizing his unique array of floaters and leaners, or finding the space in the half court to get himself open for a jumper. He told us how excited he is about the team vibe he’s already feeling, with new/hungry blood from himself, Nash, Howard and Jodie Meeks* joining the likes of Bryant with a championship in mind. Jamison can’t stop smiling as he walks around the facility.
*Meeks was also in the building, but did not scrimmage.

Great news for Laker fans! Can't wait to see if all the new players can find some early chemistry and get on a roll!
Lakers players have been pretty low key and trying to keep the hype to a minimum . . . Lakers fans have pretty high expectations . . . I for one can't wait for the season to get under way

If Metta is in peak shape, then he will be dangerous. Dude was looking decent in the second half of last season.

He can be in peak shape, but you can't beat father time who is the most dominant player in all sports. Takes MVP's and turns them into role players, takes role players and puts them in wheelchairs, and takes people in wheelchairs to meet their makers in their sleep.

This begs the question - Is Father Time GOAT?

Metta World War
It would be the worst thing for the NBA if MWP did get some motivation and returned to simply being a half way decent player.. He doesn't even have to be great... If he just doesn't suck, it solidifies the Lakers' starting 5 to an optimal level..

Too little too late. They could've used him in shape last year when they actually needed his help. They get Nash+Howard now he wants to be in shape or something? :wtf: ****ing slacker.

Not really too late though and it's not that he was slacking, he had injuries that he was dealing with that forced him to be out of shape since he couldn't work out properly.

What kind of idiotic logic is this ?
him being in shape today is more beneficial to Lakers success than it could have been last season.

If anything I think Ron realizes that this team has a real shot at winning it all, and it's time to pick it up and be at peak levels to give them his all.

Older MWP off his meds is a net plus. That's a bi polar nutt job with a purpose.

Here's a guy who can really bother Lebron and slow him down some. He and Kobe know how to push him out of his comfort zones (see last season's second regular season game), and with Gasol and Howard down low, Lebron will really have to rely on the refs and his sharp 3-point shooters to beat the Lakers in the finals. OKC may do him a great favor, though.

You can definitely be in the best shape of your life at 30-35 years old, but that refers to cardio/strength/body fat percentage. You can never be as athletic as you were in your mid-20's, however, so his level of play likely won't improve much.

We can make a 1 month avy bet. If Artest hasn't great elevated his play by December first you wear the avy till New Year's. That gives him a full month and change to turn it around.

Outside of scoring 3+ more PPG and shooting a bit more efficiently he's actually the same player but with more minutes, more shots and adding Dwight has opened up the floor for him even more. His defensive efficiency, rebounding, passing etc are all exactly the same per minute pretty much. I was having a bit of fun with you trolling when I bumped but you're actually taking this seriously.
Bottom line is yes he's slightly better but it's still early and he could take a dip, especially when Gasol and Dwight start actually playing right.

Artest has looked really good, this is the same dude that everyone absolutely CRINGED when he took any sort of 3 last year, now the dude is absolutely beasting from three and doing a lot of the Lakers dirty work and has been their 2nd best player ahead of Dwight at times.
no pun intended

Do you not read? The main argument I had wasn't a joke, I did think Artest wouldn't improve really. The joke was me bumping it after a bad season opener only 1 game into the season. Keeping up now?
Now that that's established... Artest does look better, just not quite as much as Lakers fans are claiming like the dude above saying 2nd best Laker at times SMH. Even Gasol playing like a soft bitch and Dwight bricking free throws left and right are much better.

My main point of Artest looking like their 2nd best player was when Gasol was out. Probably bad wording & bad argument, but there's times where Dwight fumbles around in the post & looks out of place, and his defense isn't anywhere near where it was.

Artest I'm sure has had a game or two where Gasol didn't play and Dwight played like ass and was in foul trouble where he played better but I wouldn't think it's a pattern. I've probably watched less Lakers games than you this year so I'll take your word for it if you say otherwise but remember Gasol and Dwight even at their worst are quality players.

Metta was probably our best player last night. He led the comeback when we were down big along with Jordan Hill and just had a great game.
