On Sept. 13, we heard the first official Dwight Howard injury update from the Lakers staff, detailing his rehabilitation process.

On Wednesday afternoon, Howard continued to make progress, focusing on upper and lower body strengthening, core stabilization, light running plus some basketball activities.

Assistant coaches Darvin Ham and Chuck Person went through low post moves with the six time All-Star center (see video below), with Howard adding some shooting from the paint and the free throw line.

Howard dropped in a high percentage of his patented baby hooks with either hand, spinning either to the baseline or the middle depending on Ham’s defense, and showed his quick first step getting to the hoop when Ham closed out.

The team continues to stress that no timetable has been determined for Howard’s return, but allowed that there have been no set backs to this point in his rehabilitation.

exactly why he had lower back problems last season. guy needs to cut at least 15-25lbs if he wants to age well and have a long healthy career - his BMI at his playing weight last season was exactly 30.0... that's clinically obese whether it is muscle or not the lower back and knees are under a lot of strain with that kind of weight. I was hoping to see a much trimmer Dwight coming into this season thinking his Doctors would advise he lose weight but it looks like that isn't on his or his Doctors agenda

I'm sure it's just the photo. Two weeks ago people saw photos of Dwight and said he looked too skinny, that he lost all his muscle mass, ect. This photo is released, and people are saying he's too big, needs to lose weight, ect.

He looks fine in the actual video, in fact he seems a little lighter than normal in them. Like you pointed out, he should continue to keep a light load on his back and knees, as it will allow him to be quicker and more explosive in the short run, and extend his career in the long run.

Who exactly can stop them in the league? He shoots 60%. Keep getting him the ball and he'll do work.
I don't know what people want from him. People act like 80's and 90's centers were doing 360 jumpshots and 8 pivot fakes before a fadeaway jumpshot.

Keep it simple and put the ball in the basket. Dwight does that.

Yeah BMI is a terrible measure of athletic ability... Usain Bolt's BMI (24.9) is considered to be at the very end of the "ideal" body weight (Normal is 18/5-24.9)

For some reason I was thinking he got hurt in the final month of the season. Did he get hurt in March? Still you don't lose muscle mass in 6 months like Dwight seemingly has from the pictures/video. He had to have put on some weight, which is to be expected. If he starts playing in December he should be in peak shape by February. Obviously if he starts earlier he will be in shape earlier, but I figured rather say December than November in case he doesn't play.

Didn't the playoffs start end of April? So he got hurt end of march ish I think..

Nah it looks about right to me. If you're lifting constantly and stop, that's what happens. Plus we're not exactly sure what "supplements" he takes either.. But this is where muscle memory etc will help him. A month or two back in the gym and he'll be back to normal. You lose the pump pretty quickly when u stop lifting and start eating garbage...

For all the guys saying he looks "bloated" and needs to lose weight, wasn't he just cleared to begin running a few weeks back? If he wasn't even medically cleared to run how do you expect him to exercise in a manner that he would lose weight?

Remember he had surgery April 20 and the reports said that the recovery time would be six to seven months. I also read that it would take four months for him to be cleared to run (or about August 20). So with those timetables in mind, how do you expect Dwight to be in game shape right now?
