View Full Version : Who's game is the most aesthetically pleasing?

We all know that Lebron and Durant are two of the best players in the game. Lebron is the most complete basketball player today, and Durant is a helluva player. But, in your opinion, who is the most fun to watch out of all the hoopers today?
I'll start it off with Kobe. He's inefficient, yes, but when he's on fire the stuff he does on the court are amazing to watch. Some of the best footwork in the game. I also like Paul Pierce. These two are creative when it comes to getting shots off.
Let's stay on topic, yes?

Chris Paul and Derrick Rose far as how likely they are to do something id call beautiful on any given play. I also love watching Nash and Tim Duncan. Id watch the highlights of a 30 point game from Duncan over perhaps anyone in the league Rose aside.

I agree that Tim Duncan's game is beautiful in the classical sense of the word. No movement is wasted. It's like watching the Parthenon. The polar opposite of Dirk, who's more like a weird contemporary art piece.
Nash has an incredibly fluid, aesthetically pleasing game, like Rubio (though Rubio's shot looks horrible).
Derrick Rose is the ultimate "wish fulfillment" player. You watch him and wish you were able to do what he does.
Then you have pretty much the entire former Celtics Big 4 - Rondo for the moves, Pierce for the footwork, Allen for the way he moves without the ball, Garnett for the sense of purpose in everything he does.
Ginobili, Scola.
KD and Tmac for the smooth effortlessness.
Lots of different styles that work for me.

If you guys could, you can post highlights of the players you chose so we can all see the best of what these players do. Just to see why you appreciate their game so much.
Also, I agree with the pass first point guards. They are awesome to watch, but my favorite point guard has to be Rajon Rondo (coming from a Laker fan, that's a tough thing to admit). CP3 also, he's just so smooth when he handles the ball.

For me it's Kobe. He adds some drama to the game, while Lebron or Durant are more like basketball machines, which can be a joy to watch, but it lacks that 'something' extra that others players bring to basketball. Jordan excelled at doing this while being a winning machine too.

I'm also a big fan of watching Ginobili on offense. He's extremely intelligent and deceitful with his movements. Almost Barry Sander-esque when he drives, to be honest, like his hip separates from his body. And a terrific passer with elite vision to boot. Probably the sexiest part of his game is his pace. He looks out of control and never really is. Not sure how that works, but it's awesome.
Anyone who can orchestrate an offense like both teams on the court are puppets is great. I'm speaking of the Rondo's, Nash's, and CP3's of the game.
Bigs? Scola has a beautiful post game. Even more impressive that he's not that great of an athlete and is smaller than many of the PFs he's defended by. Then there's Al Jeff, who probably has the most polished post moves in the game right now.
Lastly, of course the silky players: Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, and Kevin Durant. Heck, I still love watching McGrady play. The guy moves like a Barry White song, even still at his current age and crippled body.

I don't understand why some people are disagreeing with others. That's why it's in your OWN opinion. Let's not ruin it with baseless arguments about who's good and what not. I just want to see people's opinions. I've been able to look at some highlights from the players mentioned above, and man I guess I don't pay attention much to these players cause they're all pretty amazing.

My favourite players to watch:
Rose: His drives are a thing of beauty, and when he gets his floater/pull up going is so good to watch. Combine his speed strength and athleticism and he may have one of the most aesthetically pleasing play styles in history.
Dirk: When he has a set jumpshot it really is quite goodlooking, and you just know its going in.
Dwight: I like watching a real big go to work in the paint, sealing for position, putbacks and catching lobs. His post game is also quite pleasing to the eye, its just his touch is rather average and those sweeping and spin hooks hardly ever drop for him. I believe by the time he hits 30 that his post game will be polished and he'll eventually hit the 25ppg mark.

Come on theres a lot more to Melos game than that he plays like that when he's having a bad game but every player does annoying shit when there having a bad game. He has a ton of moves great foot work he's quick a nice looking jumper he used to be a pretty great athlete too when he was with the nuggets.

there are some guys i love watching, just because of the little subtelties of the game, that they consistently execute well, chris paul rubbing his defender off a screen to walk into the lane, duncan re- setting a screen a dozen times to get parkee a wide open jumpee. things like that are consistently enjoyable. id put the gasols, nash, varejao (his relentless defense is a joy to watch), andre miller, rubio, harden, they all fall into the same group.
then there are the more dramatic, traditionally exciting players, rose, kobe, bron, westbrook, durant, irving, melo. they can all go through slumps, missing shots, turnovers, whatever, but they all have the potential to make once off, unbelievable plays.
i guess with the first group, its more about the process, and the second is more about the final result.

I like watching the players with unique games- the ones where if you could only see their silhouette you'd know who it was from their moves.
Being an OKC fan my two are KD and Russ. KD because of his crazy length and lankiness- I swear sometimes when he dunks it looks like the ball is carrying him up to the rim.
I'd have to say Westbrook is my favorite just because of the sheer reckless he brings to his game. Anyone who has ever accused him of not caring about a team or being a stat padder is effing insane- nobody hits the hardwood as often as he does if they only care about themselves. Westbrook has this strange kind of herky-jerk athleticism that makes it seem like he's always ready to explode.
Even though the Lakers are kind of our nemesis I admire Kobe's game just for the drama of it. I was in awe when he hit a three and held up his finger to shush the crowd during the 2008 olympics gold medal round. Kobe has a certain kind of ruthless to his game that doesn't seem to recognize anybody else on the court but Kobe.

Rose, you know he's coming and he's going to put some dynamo in it. Its like watching a great running back. Is fluid like water and lite like air.
Lebron, power, flair, speed and versatily are a rare combo. Great Bball sense can morph into any other position.
Chris Paul, he creates options with great execution and clear thinking. I love the way he kind of hovers into a situation and then figures a way to make it explode.
KG, plays all out and with crazy intensity. Very rare in any sport to see intensity and versatilty together in one of the best defensive executors in the league. KG makes more right defensive plays than I ever seen in the sport. He's like a great linebacker (Lawrence Taylor) with his decision making.
Will like to see more of Rubio.

I'll make a homer pick, too, then. I like Deron's game the most because he seems to always be in control. He seems like he can dominate people from the PG position in a way other players can't.

Let's stay on topic, yes?
The best to watch are usually the small quick guards (CP3, D Rose, Tony Parker).
They have to move around more and do more dribbles moves just to get up a good shot.
Personally for me the most aesthetically pleasing are Anfernee Hardaway and Scottie Pippen.
For me it's Wade ahead of everyone. He can do anything. He's a highlight reel.

It used to be Nash by far, but I gotta admit I haven't seen much of him these last couple years.

Ginobili, Parker and co all have a beautiful game but it's more of team thing than an individual player.

Dwayne Wade, Allen Iverson and Ray Allen's.
Ray Allen, because I love the way he plays off of screens. I appreciate movement off the ball that can not only occupy 1 defender, but sometimes a whole teams. And if you don't have a post game, this is the way to do it.
Love the way Iverson and Wade attack the basket recklessly. Usually ends up in highlight plays...either from the crossover or the finish.
