ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Kobe Bryant was busy scoring 31 points in 29 minutes of the Los Angeles Lakers' 114-80 exhibition loss to the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night at the Honda Center.

Oc course, cuz it's about Kobe, here come the ret**ded haters with their pathetic attempts at semantics, making themselves look even more stupid. Since it first takes reading comprehension skills to play semantics. A skill they CLEARLY lack, but what else is new? Of course Kobe is supposed to think he's some scrub, that got lucky to get 5 titles. Of course:rolleyes:

You gotta realize that these are pro bballers, and I'm sure that most starters believe that they can be the best,
all-stars probably believe they are the best...

Now, those in the top 10, they probably think they're the GOAT regardless of anything anyone might say...

They wouldn't be where they're at if they hadn't believed so...

Lost in all of this is the fact that A Rod wasn't the best in baseball for a long time. Pujols had him beat in a lot of things. It's just this past year where Pujols looked bad.

Cabrera is the best not A-Rod. Also in baseball one player can only effect the game so much if he isn't a pitcher.

I don't neccessarily think he meant "best in the league" per se, but one of the best to play the game in general. Though it is Kobe, so I wouldn't be surprised lol But I do genuinely think he meant it in the context of GOAT standings and not best in the league standings.

Nah, Kobe had admitted he believes MJ is the GOAT.

I truly believe that Kobe thinks he can be the best in the game still. He respects Lebron's talent, but not Lebron himself. During the ASG last season, Kobe called out Lebron... mind ****ed him into taking the last shot, which missed horribly.

This isn't to say that I believe Kobe is the best in the game right now, I don't. I do believe that he believes in himself so much that he believes that he can be if he has a healthy season.

People are reading way too much into this. When you take Kobe's words literally you actually miss the larger point. Kobe's message is about having a certain mentality not his actual rank in the game today. It's about thinking that you can perform at the most elite level even when you probably can't. It's about having a certain confidence that comes with the historical prestige of your name as an all time great.

skill wise. kobe is probably still the best

how else has he been able to last so long with nearly all his athleticism being depleted

ask yourself this question

if lebron james was 6-6, 195 pounds and had kobes small hands, limited speed, limited quickness and fragile bones/ligaments, and mileage

who would be more effective? kobe or lebron?

Him admitting MJ is the GOAT doesn't mean that he doesn't think of himself as one of the greatest to ever lace them up, something he has even said on an ESPN interview this past season. And as you said, yes, Kobe is probably the most confident player in our league, as well as probably the most cocky and competitive. But in accordance to what he said about A-Rod ("one of the best to ever play the game"), I believe he was saying the same about himself. He was talking about being one of the best to ever play. He was talking all-time, not currently. That's just my assumption but it seemed to go hand and hand with the A-Rod comment more than him saying he's hands down the "best player in the league".

Anyone with a lot of rep and very little posts is an alternate account, usually one of RG's. It's true with rep, though a lot of posters such as me have really high rep because a lot of our history on ISH came during a time where there were no negs, only reps. :lol If someone has like 3-4 red bars, then that usually means troll, though.

RG is literally OBSESSED with reps/negs. He reps himself with all his alternates that's how he gets so much rep. I remember when I used to lurk on ISH (some good reads on ISH is what got me to join here) is that he was always trying to prop his Spurs up and would take anything anti-Spurs as like a confrontation.

He's kinda like Clippersfan86 is to the Clippers. Everyone clowned him after the Spurs lost to Memphis in the first round 2011, when he said there was like no chance they would lose or something. I think he also pegged them winning the title that year too.

Only reason I've been on ISH lately the past few days is I got shit canned at my nightclub.

Him and B-Low would post the gayest pictures of themselves, duck lipping like a teenage girl and everything.

I miss a lot of the good, consistent original posters from the board. People you could talk ball with who knew their stuff.

Now we got the era of ISH keyboard PSYCHOS like pauk, and all his accounts (nash, sh0wtime, etc) ... LakersReign. Who never talks actual detail about basketball, but rather gets into fights confrontations for no reason.

To be honest, you were pretty bad when you got here in 2011, yourself.

Sucks about your job, though. I don't think Nash is Pauk, he joined before Pauk and Pauk would probably give himself away by getting mad more than Nash does IMO. It's possible though. I think a lot of those posters you mentioned left for the same reasons you probably did last year (for the time being)... because there are so many trolls on ISH at times and each thread becomes a shit fest that you have to sift through.

The board could definitely use more moderators and while their limited with no banning power, at least they can clean up some mess. For example, posting RRR3's picture over and over and over again, whether he makes a thread or posts in one.

I mean, how wrong is that ? Other dudes keeping track of another man's picture on their desktop/link. Then using it to ruin threads.

I've always said I wouldn't mind modding on here, just to stop the thread killing and name calling.

Is that thread still up ? I've seen him do that on 2 of his old accounts.

nash and pauk are the same. sh0wtime was his original account. The agenda is the exact same. Pick a username / team repping another player that has nothing to do with Bron, yet only talk about and religously defend LeBron.

ISH has a nice ebb and flow, which allows certain players and fans to shine at certain given times, depending on how the league's unfolding. This helps prevent the Board from becoming an endless circle jerk for a particular player, which brings me to my next post..... lol

Call Kobe delusional but he just explained his mentality to you. If Kobe didnt have that mentality he'd be Joe Johnson. I applaud honesty when it comes to athletes even if I'm not a fan of theirs. You guys rather nitpick Kobe and how he sees himself over the point of the article. Good job, good effort there guys.

Dude, come on now. There's this unwritten rule in sports where you don't toot your own horn, nor talk about how great you are. "I just did whatever it took to win". or "I've been feeling really confident in my game lately" are statements that at least show some kind of humility.

Saying sh!t like "I'm a bad muthaf@cka", or "Sometimes he forgets he's the best, where as I don't" just shows a lack of tact and major insecurity. We've all had HS classmates who would say "I know I'm the sh!t" and 9 times out of 10, those people end up being the kids with the lowest self esteem.

Kobe just sees his "pub" train winding down and he wants to keep himself relevant in any way possible. And the easiest way for him to do that is to just play some team ball, which of course won't happen if he's still making statements like this.

That's notactually what unwritten means. I can't exactly define it, but generally it boils down to ... is common knowledge. For example don't bang your sister. I can't understand why the greatest basketball players in the world wouldn't talk about their greatness, even if it makes them sound a little douchey. You are one of about 400 people on the planet that can call themselves the best at basketball in the world. **** not talking about how great I am even if i'm Luke Walton. Someone makes fun of you and all you say is "are you in theNBA biatch?" When they answer no walk away like a boss.

What he's talking about isn't anything that's "common knowledge." Kobe haters actually sit there and INVENT methods and ways to discredit the guy. There is no such unwritten rule in sports, cuz if there was then, Floyd Mayweather would be guilty of breaking it 2 hundred million times over. Dude is the definition of "tooting your own horn." Let me take you back even further. Ali used to talk mad sh*t about how great he was back in the day when he fought Frazier and Foreman, and all them. Look at a more recent event, Usain Bolt's comments in the last Olympics. EVERY major and popular sport on the planet has it's share of ego driven athletes. Some claim to be the GOAT, some don't. But yet nevaeh tries to claim, "there's this unwritten rule in sports." Which "sport" would he be referring to ...darts? Please.

Wow Kobe has really been running his mouth, flaunting the last few months. We get it Kobe, you're great, Smush sucks, Kwame sucks, you have a good now, but you're the still man. Jeez with the amount of times he states he's the best, it comes off as insecurity.

Lol I seem to remember LeBron talking in an interview one time about his greatness actually. No idea where to find it, but it was definetly in his CLE days.

Everywhere I've been, I've been the best player. I love being a leader, and I love being the best. I just want to get better. It's not about being cocky or selfish or anything like that. It's just how I am.

LEBRON JAMES, USA Today, Nov. 21, 2005

I've always been a leader. I've always kind of been the tallest person on the team when I was younger but always kind of the smartest. I was ahead of my time. I wasn't always the oldest, I kind of was the youngest on the team, but, I kind of knew what to do at times.

LEBRON JAMES, interview, Jan. 4, 2004

I don’t need too much. Glamour and all that stuff don’t excite me. I am just glad I have the game of basketball in my life.

LEBRON JAMES, interview, Jun. 14, 2003

-“We’re on the bus together and we talk about a lot of things and if you’re not trustworthy, like admitting you’re gay, you can’t be trusted. It’s a trust factor."
:facepalm
-"I'm only one guy," James said during the 2009 Eastern Conference Finals. "I took Hedo (Turkoglu) in the first game and Rashard (Lewis) hit the winning shot. I took Rashard in the second game and Hedo hit the shot. If I could clone myself, we'd be all right. But I can't.

-"No, I don't think so. Me being with Nike, we hold our standards high." regarding Stephon Marbury's $15 sneakers for kids

- "Because it's LeBron's shoe. It is, it's got my name on it." - on why his shoes cost more than Kobe's

-"...One day we might have another LeBron. Maybe." - on poor kids with dreams of being the next LBJ

- "someone sent that to me, so i sent it out. I didnt write it" - LBJ on his karma tweet

Kobe is probably only just in the top 5 right now, which is amazing for his age but he is delusional if he thinks he is still the best.

 That's my man Kobe telling it like it is. This is why we are going to miss this brother when he retires  I hate even thinking about it. But Kobe's comments about A-Rod are spot on. Watch ARod play. He has lost his swag. That confidence. Kobe, like Jordan, could be pushing 90 years old, stuck in a wheelchair, with two blown knees, would still think that he is the best and could beat anyone, and that is what makes Kobe so legendary...that confidence.

When kobe says he's the best he doesn't mean at his old age he's better than all current superstars in their primes. He's like the one old guy at the park who is slower than all of the younger guys and not the same player he used to be, but he still has way more Court savvy, skills, and overall basketball knowledge than everyone else. And all of the younger guys know it. It's that old veteran aura those guys carry around with them.

Everyone talking about insecurity and shit is delusional. This isn't the douchebag quarterback on your jayvee football team. This is kobe fvcking Bryant one of the most revered athletes of all time. He's just speaking the truth.

What's with Kobe continually making these public statements of how a great a player he is? :confusedshrug:

MJ never talked like that. He let his play do all the talking.

MJ is known as a cocky ***hole so using his HOF speech as a defense against this isn't smart.

Somebody find a quote where MJ said anything like Kobe has said while he was playing. I don't think it ever happened. Prove me wrong.

I wouldn't say he was known that way when he played but now that is certainly the case which is why I used his HOF speech as an example.

that's seriously much worse than Kobe. I don't understand why people are offended by Kobe too. Some of you say he's top 5, some say top 15. Even if he's top 15, he definitely has a right to feel he's #1. Top 15 basketball player in the whole world and he's supposed to be humble? I'm sure they all believe they're the best. It's what got them to where they are- for Kobe, his rings. There's nothing wrong with that thought.

And who cares what MJ did or didn't do? What does that have to do with anything??

There's this unwritten rule in sports where you don't toot your own horn, nor talk about how great you are.

Muhammed Ali used to talk about how great he was all the time. So please tell me where this supposed "uwritten rule in sports," you're talking about supposedly came from? Serious question

Oh, and by the way, repeating what I say like a pathetic parrot(nevaeh), instead of answering the question, is just confirmation that you(nevaeh) MADE UP that so called "rule."

What's with Kobe continually making these public statements of how a great a player he is? MJ never talked like that. He let his play do all the talking.

That's what's most appalling. And everyone on these boards know I rooted for him for awhile. The past several years his attitude, play, and even his fans have annoyed me to no end and turned me off wanting to see Kobe succeed.

It seems as though he's ridiculously insecure. The way he played in 2011 and 2012 is evident of that ... almost a mental / maturity regression of sorts. Holding on desperately to what isn't there anymore, instead of adapting and overcoming.

At this stage, it isn't Kobe being "confident" or even "arrogant" the way his stans in this thread suggest. It's just un-called for ... his place in the game as one of the legends is secure. Let your resume, impact, aura do the talking.

MJ as a 33, 34, and 35 year old didn't have to talk like this to pump himself up, or blow smoke up his own ass.

Him complaining about a short two season stretch where he had bad teammates, that cost him MVPs ... who as an NBA legend does that? It's worse knowing how spoiled and blessed Kobe was with superstars, talents, and stacked complete rosters the rest of his career to even make mention of things like that.

Now, being the benefitting from of ANOTHER super squad. And having to hear if he gets a 6th ring his annoying fans propping him up to MJ levels. I'm by all means wanting to see him fail again, this year.

IDIOT ...

Basketball is a team sport. Ali was an individual athlete that determined his success or failure. Not to mention Ali was charismatic. What Kobe's doing comes from a salty / furious / insecurity / spiteful place.

And in ALI's case he was speaking the truth. Bryant at this time, isn't.

The article got misquoted:

[QUOTE]"I just say to him, 'You're Alex Rodriguez. You're A-Rod. You're one of the best to ever do it,'" Bryant said. "I think sometimes he kind of forgets that and wants to try to do the right thing all the time. Which is the right team attitude to have. But other times you really have to put your head down and say, 'Hell with it' and just do your thing.

"Hopefully the next game they'll kind of give him a chance, maybe put him back at third and let him respond to the pressure, which I think he'll do."

Although both are among the best to ever play their respective sports, Bryant and Rodriguez would seem to be very dissimilar.

Kobe said he's one of the best of all time, not the best in the league now OR the best of all time.

Leave it to the great minds of ISH to follow the blind Shepherd that is ESPN without using an ounce of their own cognitive fortitude to seek further clarification. I'm not surprised; many of you are so embarrassingly eager to jump and critique every little piss Kobe takes that it just doesn't meet your agenda to realize the point of Kobe's entire statement, which was to motivate a friend and fellow competitor in a time of need.

Got NumberSix saying Kobe's the 3rd or 4th best player on his own team, never failing to seize an opportunity to throw dirt on the man's name or legacy :applause:

It amazes me everyday how many simpletons run wild on this board.

The article got misquoted:

Read the last part. Kobe is saying that he never forgets that he is ONE of the best, not the best. It's typical media propaganda to leave a part out and not surprisingly, it's from ESPN. :facepalm

Something similar to Ali comparison, it actually reminds of when Marc Jackson said something along the lines of trying to compare Kobe to Tiger Woods, when Tiger had his problems in the early parts of the 2010's and said that "Kobe would have figured it out by now", meaning he would start winning again or something.

This was around 2011. I found that really troubling, as Woods does have more than a case to be considered the GOAT golfer with is numerous individual success (an individual sport, which is pure mental too !), took golf to another level of pop culture (video games/commercials with mostly Tiger), etc... It also took Kobe years to finally win an NBA title, the ultimate goal, after becoming the man. It's not even comparable individually, but there was Marc Jackson with Kobe agenda.

That is more comparable than what this article tried to spin it as Kobe saying.

THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS THIS.

10 + pages of people bitching about a quote that wasn't even what he said.

ONE of the greatest, sorry that Kobe didn't re state the "one of the greatest" at the end of his statement.

He should have known it would be mis quoted & represented in a way to make him look as bad as possible.

HIS ACTUAL QUOTE WAS 100% TRUTH

A mod should close this thread, OP didn't take the time to find the ACTUAL quote & now we have a 10 page thread discussing something that was never even said in the way it was presented, which is what makes this any discussion at all.

Well, actually some of us decided to talk about other things around ISH and not Kobe's quote, which is why it went 10+ pages.

It isn't until went back and read the OP (had to roll my eyes at it being ESPN at first... I defended Kobe has to be say these things to remain confident, not reading the quote at all)... then realized the :facepalm mistake of him completely being honest and correct and people are calling Kobe delusional.

:oldlol:

Either way, I was more interested in the other conversations in the thread than the actual topic itself.

That's cuz 99% of the people in here b***hing about the quote lack reading comprehension, so they never bothered to actually read the article to begin with. All they saw was Kobe and greatest in the same sentence, and their blood pressure immediately went up. So they rushed in, spouting their usual hater tripe. I don't get the uproar, even if Kobe thinks he's the best it's his problem, it doesn't affect anybody's life in any way aside from his.

The Lebron quotes aren't that bad either he said much worse shit, talking about himself in third person iirc.
