I can't stand this type of auto-tuned rap with such a boring and repetitive beat (looping the same 5 seconds over and over, for real?). I honestly can't judge his skills as an emcee from the song you recommended to listen to (Trap God), but based on my criticism already stated, I don't agree with you whatsoever.

IMO, comparing Jeezy and his CTE label mate Freddie Gibbs to Gucci is kind of insulting. I don't think that either of those artists are making anything even nearly as mind-numbing as Gucci's music.
I feel like Jeezy and Gibbs put way more thought into their songs and are way better rappers in every sense of the word.

Rapping wise Boogeyman is probably the best song Gucci ever made and it would be the worst song on Jeezys first album. Gucci isnt even special as a dope boy rapper.

It only becomes boring and preachy when rappers focus more on what they're rapping about than the fact that they are making a song. The quality of music has nothing to do with the "message" (whether it be ignorant or "conscious"). It's about the song itself as a work of music.
And I tried to reply to your PM from a while back but your messages were full.

That's the market right now. The rap landscape is about drugs, violence and explotation of women because we as consumers like it. I personally don't support killing someone but I take the music as art not real life.
The reason the aggressive violent stuff is what I listen to is because of the unflappable confidence and ambition. Jeezy, Gucci, Biggie and early Jay Z all have grit and drive. It's raw.
The popularity of this music has a negative effect on uninformed non-black observers giving the impression that the black guy ringing you up at Wal Mart might have more glass pots then Wal Mart does back at home.
I completely understand your agrument about prolonging the missdistribution of information about how other races really are just the same. Human beings with lives and ambitions no different from skin color to skin color.

Yet non of my white friends get harassed by gang unit for wearing red or blue like me. I know how the worl should be but this is the way it is. Kids of other races can go through a "goon faze" like Andy Reid's kids but the ghetto is my foundation, I can't shake it. Negative stereotyoes cause me and mine hardships. We have to stunt all this ignorance and promote more realistic images, positive ones that can produce positive outcomes for our kids.
I'm tired of ****** shooting up shit and selling drugs and bragging. It's way past old. But when you grew up seeing drug addicts, gangbanging, and the people you love are really getting killed in this life it means more to you that just entertainment.

I didn't grow up in the same environment as you and that affects my opinion on that type of music. Since I don't see shootings and bystander deaths on a regular basis it's easier for me to see it as purely storytelling and role playing.
There is nothing glorified about killing a child with a stray or a house full of kids with nothing to eat because crack is first on the list.

Because I like rap music. There's nothing intricate or special about my reasoning. The message is only one aspect of rapping. And rapping is one aspect of rap music. The message means nothing if it's not conveyed well in this field. It's not like an essay where the subject matter is what composes the entirety of the work.
Nothing here contradicts what I said. Do you care about a song having a message or not? Sounds like you do. The message factors into the quality of the song.

No I don't. If it does, cool. If it doesn't that's cool too. I'm saying the quality of a song shouldn't be judged solely on what the song is talking about. That's like 1/5 of what actually goes into the song.
I have to disagree 1/5. Lyrics are huge.

Frankly to me, this is the epitome of what I call the 'fast food generation'
Our music is packaged to sell. Look at all genres of music. This isnt just rap.
Look at the movies Hollywood has been throwing out there. You think they push remakes on us like they do because we love them? No....they're cash grabs. They bank of simplicity.
Our arts suffer all around the board.
This artist ( I remember him when he first came out ) is a joke. His music is a joke. There is no "deeper" shit going on that we cant wrap our heads around.
And for the record....is some kid here, REALLY gonna tell me, at 31 years of age, that I dont "understand" wtf the message is? Look little kiddies....You havent earned ENOUGH play time on this planet to tell a grown ass person the lyrics are "going over his head"
Its garbage. Music is WEAK right now.
The irony is, most of them will argue record sales....which happens to be the very reason these execs purposely simplify this shit to push it out there by the bundles.

the logic is just so bad in that post. gucci has been an independent artist pretty much his whole career. when gucci has forced shit for a label he has never really sold. his albums have never sold well. he had maybe three legit successful singles. his fanbase and critical praise has come from the music he is making on his own and giving out for free (mixtapes). if gucci is a joke then every ignorant street rapper ever is a joke. biggie is a joke, dr. dre is a joke, 50 is a joke. you can't selectively use these arguments.

Amazes me that so many teenagers and barely 20s think they are the "real" rap fans.
Ive been listening to rap since sneaking to play Rebel Without a Pause on my grandmas stereo when she was at church in the 80s. I had De La soul, The DOC, and Main Source tapes right through Coolio, No Limit, Bad Boy, and Cash Money. Right now on my MP3 player you might get Scarface and Ice Cubes Hand of the dead Body right before Shorty Lo or Trouble and Alley Boy next to Pimp C before David Banner and Organized Konfusion.
I listen to the Youngbloodz, Killer Mike, Eyedea, and some old E40....
I listen to everything.

Off beat mumbling is not creative. At best you could compare it to scat in jazz or the blues but id hope nobody dared compare that clown to Louis Armstrong or Albert Collins.
And 100 classics?
Get the **** outta here.
Snoop doesnt have 100 classics and everything he put up until like 1997 was probably near classic.

Gucci is in the box of retarded entertainment rappers that people like. From all races at that. You can hear people recite Gucci catchy adlibs. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah, gucci! Its retarded, silly to some but thats entertaining as hell to others. They dont listen to Gucci to see if he can rap better than Gibbs or is even better at trap rap than Jeezy. Its like Beavis and Butthead, Jackass, Viva La Bam. Stupid shows that have stupid humor and people like it. Toss in South Park. Yes I said it, and some of you love South Park so how dare I compare Gucci retarded antics to that of South Park. Same stuff in the retarded box in my book. All that kind of humor is pretty much the same. Think about it, how do a couple white guys doing dumb shyt for x amount of hours become celebs and paid nicely? There is no skill involved in doing something retarded, neither is rapping like a retard. But there is an audience that finds it funny.
That audience could be other retards or people with good sense about them but they enjoy that 5mins of nonsense. I like certain Gucci Mane songs. Not a fan, wouldnt dare buy an album or mixtape. But some songs I like. Catchy adblids, hooks, good beat. All you need to capture an ear.
Dont see how anyone could act like Gucci is good tho. He aint underrated.

Gucci has flows. I can understand people's perception of him being set in stone. First impressions mean a lot. When Gucci first appeared on the national scene he was trash, but over the years his skills have improved vastly. He is now easily a better rapper than Jeezy, and is more compelling on the mic than Freddie Gibbs will ever be.

A Cold Day in Hell was more lyrical, realistic, and in depth than any Gucci album to date. Young Jeezy pretty much won a battle for Atlanta with Gucci then went on to do better than he could ever imagine in the rap game.
I guess seeing the epitome of ignorance in rap is compelling for white and Asian fans for example, but for educated blacks it is not as charming....Gucci can be the hottest out at a certain time, he can have a hit or two, but he does not pass muster when it comes to being the best anything (except clown or sucka).

Gucci is way more varied on the mic than Jeezy is. There has been little to no growth in Jeezy's spitting. The only thing that has improved from album to album for Jeezy is his beats. Gucci on the other hand, has been adding new flows and cadences to his arsenal at a break neck speed. Jeezy hasn't had a flow on any song as good as Gucci's flow on "D*mn Shawty".

Here's some of my attention young man.
They were both trash on "So Icy". By the second half of "Back To The Traphouse" Gucci had already become a better rapper than Jeezy. The space between the two only became larger over the years.

They were both trash on "So Icy". By the second half of "Back To The Traphouse" Gucci had already become a better rapper than Jeezy. The space between the two only became larger over the years.
And yes the improvement between the production on 101 and 103 is vast.
1. You didn't need to respond, just soak up some game.
2. You said first impressions might be why some don't like Gucci and I blasted that notion. Both rappers were first heard at the same time and on the same song (by most). Yeezy has gone on to do bigger and better things, sells more, has more respect in their hometown, and is a better artist by association. Jeezy put on Freddie Gibbs and works with Jay Z. Gucci?
3. Thug Motivation 101 was Jeezy's best produced album by far, you suck at rap analysis son. Suck! Cross your fingers when rap is being discussed here.

There are at least 12 songs on 101, 103, and the Recession better than Gucci will ever make. 12 on each.

Some things gucci says may go over white folk heads but I'm a n!gga and I know exactly wat hes sayin, and the results are .......He still f*cking sucks ass ...I like 3 songs maximum he's ever done ...He's not better than Jeezy.
And lost ppl, if u hear this type of rapper say anything like "I got chickens in the coop" No! he's not a black farmer, he has large quantities of cocaine in his vehicle.

If "So Icy" was the first time you heard Jeezy, or Gucci for that matter why would I value your "game"?
Look at your three "points" closely. They are weak. Your have an ignorance on the subject of both Gucci and Jeezy, yet you are still trying to proffer weak arguments.
For you music must fit your antiquated narrative of "inner city Black struggle" that views music as the cause of inner city black strife instead of it being merely symptomatic. You post the same inane ramblings in every single Hip Hop thread. Give that crap a nap son, its tired and fussy.
Both Gucci and Jeezy attempt to make catchy adlib heavy pop hop records. Gucci is just better at it. Working for Jay Z isn't necessarily a badge of honor. Memphis Bleek works for the man, and Jay Z has a sketchy track record when it comes to putting on quality artists. His cosign means nothing to me.

both Gucci and Jeezy are two of the worst things to ever happen to rap (I won't even call it hip hop). If you enjoy either there is something wrong with the way you process music, see a doctor. Seriously, they're shitting in your ears and you're paying them to do it. There are many grey and subjective areas when it comes to personal taste in art, but I'm not wrong here, you are. Sonic garbage.

:facepalm :facepalm LMAOOOO worst post of the year, easily. and so disrespectful. Gucci's new mixtape was easily better than the recession. Gucci is BACK! listen to him this last year. Trap back, Im up, and Trap God are all GREAT mixtapes.

Black men endorsing positive black images is "inane rambling?". Yeah, that seals it, you're really not as smart as you think you are....just because I urge young black listeners and artists to first consider the images they project before they present their art doesn't mean I can't appreciate all forms of rap. Some artists can and do portray a realistic representation.....Gucci and Jeezy do not. I am looking at their works as strictly entertainment, beyong my personal issues. Both are really sub par, but at least Jeezy doesn't sound like a mumble mouth idiot.
My points are strong. Most people heard Jeezy and Gucci on the same track (don't give me that bullshit like you were on to them so much sooner than most), Jeezy is more popular commercially, has more cred in the industry, puts out better artists (Gibbs is way better than Wocka), and makes better albums.
Thug Motivation 101> any Gucci album.
You picked a lame horse I'm this race point blank, and no amount of snobby rhetoric can save your choice....sorry Charlie.

obviously tm101 and the recession are better than any gucci album and this statement doesn't mean anything. rap since both have started has been mixtapes with the exception of the superstars (kanye, jay-z, drake, ross). gucci has significantly more classic songs than jeezy over the same time and is more skilled at rapping, therefore he is the better rapper. it's very simple. stack bundles who would have been 30 today never got to the point of making an album and i don't hesitate at all to call him a legend.

That was only for Dasher who said Jeezy's beats have gotten better than probably one of the best productions that came put of Atlanta.
I might dislike your taste but your love for rap music is evident and you seem to know your shit, at least in respects to current rap, so I'm not mad at you.....I might not have given Danny Brown's crazy ass a listen if it weren't for you among a couple other new school cats with talent.
Gucci is a legend in the south, ill Gove him that, but overall I would not. In the West and esp on the East his name doesn't ring bells like that.

You must have earned your bars speaking on something other than rap because you sound silly.
"Gucci man has flows?"
Nah son, sit the **** down lmao.
Gucci was locked up for shooting up Jeezy's crew when Jeezy was blowing up. The reality of it is that Jeezy stole Gucci's style. Here is the real Jeezy for ya; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4kz5QenOiQ

I'll give you that, although I'd say Jeezy matured a lot more and doesn't get face tatts and wear silly jewelry for the **** of it.
I wouldn't call Gucci Mane stylish at all.
