Thanks for the update guys.

I'm going try to add different things to the OP, not just GW shots. I will try to attempt and put other things that should be considered "game winning" as well, like the assists, rebounds, blocks, steals, etc...

Tony Parker's three vs the Hornets was as good as a game winner too.

Well I call that the "go ahead shot", but GW's main criteria is 24 seconds or below.

I will say that Parker has been the best crunch time shot maker and producer in this brief young season.

It's a game winning shot either way you look at it. The shot was for the win and it counts as a game winner also because it's 24 seconds or under. Allen just one upped him.

It's definitely a "clutch" shot regardless, but it should be also counted as a GW.

They lost, it's not a game winner. It's a clutch shot, that's all. It's not like it sent the game to OT either, so I fail to see how Iguodala's shot counts.

Wtf is this? I usually like youir post but this is retarded he went for the win but you have to WIN for it to count. LeBron would of had a shit load of game winners in his career :lol Never have I heard of this definition for a game winner

With the negative feedback, I'll add a new section.

I don't know, I've seen clutch data record Iggy's shot as a GW, so I just followed it.

All these would be technically "clutch shots", anyways. So I'll just call it "Take the lead with 24 seconds or under shot".. :confusedshrug:. Little bit of a weird name, but it's 24 seconds or under.

Agreed here ?

You were right initially Legends, that Iggy shot is considered a "game winner" by the criteria used on most sites, and the same one's people use to tabulate the totals of star players like Kobe and Lebron. It's just a technicality to call it a clutch shot since the opposing team scored afterwards.

Well, technically, I did not make that criteria. It was just I read from other analysts using it.

I do think I should try an expand the list, perhaps to 2 minutes and less, for situations like LeBron and Tony Parker earlier in the year. I know 82 games will do better job too.

Yea, if the other team doesnt respond to your gametying/to take the lead shot and if your team doesnt score anything more aswell it should count as a gametying/gamewinning shot... but ofcourse to do it with under 24 sec is i guess considered more "clutchesque"

Wasn't the traditional definition of a gamewinning shot, the actual last shot in a game?

Its not strictly a game winning shot. Its just as important, since we don't give up the lead from there, but a free throw was made after.

I've never heard or read that actually being the traditional definition, but I wouldn't disagree with that. I've read that if it's 24 seconds or less, it's game winning, but I also consider shots made before that timeline (and if a team does not tie) as just as much a game winner.

The fact that the Cavs did not tie the game and the Allen made the shot at the 18.2 second mark makes it more than a valid game winner.

The free throw Allen made just adds to the lead itself. It doesn't take away that he also made a game winner and the Cavs didn't tie.

I've considered adding defensive plays to the list, but I don't know how many of them have been out there this season so far.

Yea, that is just to rare...

Plus you can have a gamewinning rebound, steal, forced turnover, shut down defense etc... :P

That's be hard to keep track off. Because steals, rebounds and defensive stops happen all the time so you don't know what.

Nov 29: Ray Allen makes 24-foot three point jumper (LeBron James assists) with 22.6 seconds left; 105-100 Heat Win vs Spurs

I think it should probably count as a gamewinning shot because Ray made it 101-98 afterall... Spurs scored only 100 pts, thats 101-100.... thats the shot that won the game... those Lebron/Ray/Wade FTs later was just additional pts because of the fouls Spurs were forced to take...

While I was thinking "Deja vu ?", unfortunately I can't add it as a "game winner".

Reasoning ? The Spurs did end up tying the game at 100-100. However, I think I can add it as a "Take the lead with under 24 seconds rule".

Ray Allen has been dangerous in the big moments and LeBron's looking for him. :applause:

Legends is actually right, after seeing the play by play... Ray Allen made it 100-98, it was LEBRON who made it 101-98 with a freethrow... Splitter then hit 2 fts making it 101-100... Splitter would have tied the game if Lebron didnt hit that freethrow...

Ray misses and the Spurs likely control the game. They were up 98-97 with 44 secods to go. Missing would give them the ball and a chance to go up by 3-4. That last shot was the last made shot of the game, and it was the one that essentially won the game for Miami.

where's kobe's three?

Misses the criteria cut, because it's 0.5 tenth more than 24 seconds. I know, it's kind off a dumb rule (did not make that up, basketball analysts did) and I probably should have considered making more lists (clutch shot in 48 seconds or below; 1 minute and under, etc... probably still could, but it's pretty deep in the season already).

Kobe's shot is "clutch", regardless.

It should be at least on the "Take the lead with 24 seconds or under shot" category here and Lebron assisting i guess would be in "Game Tying assists leaders"

Most Clutch NBA Players Today

This is always a high topic for debate, usually it's a matter of personal opinion. However, using my standards, (The shot is taken in the fourth quarter or overtime with 24 or less seconds left - making it as close to a last possession as we can for filtering stats. The game is tied or the shooters team is down by 1 or 2 points, this way any shot can tie and/or win the game.) you can see if your favorite player is one of the elite crunch time players in the league.
