"Los Angeles Lakers superstar talked to CNN Turk reporter Barbaros Tapan, you can find his statements about his future plans and his flirt with Turkish team Besiktas last season during the lock-out. “My aim is to play until I’m 40 years old and I believe I can do that. This year, we added very good players to our squad. Steve Nash, Dwight Howard will make us stronger. Right now, things are not going very well but I believe it’ll get better soon.” TrendBasket"

Kupchak isn't gonna deal with an unathletic shot chucker. Kobe is all athleticism and no craft.

If the lakers can continually provide a pg who can take the ball out of kobes hands and allow him to get easier baskets, i can see kobe averaging 22+ on nice efficiency until hes close to that age. Granted, kobe continues to buy into that whole philosophy

He's going to play until he's 40. I guess we will see kobe playing garbage minutes for the Bobcats someday.

KOBE GETS 6TH RING AT AGE 58
Published: JULY 25, 2037 11:20 pm

http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o222/tmedny20/kobeold.jpg

It may have taken 27 years, since his last championship, but Kobe Bryant has finally tied Michael Jordan, Kevin Durant and current Iraqi born, Seattle Crabcatchers superstar Mohammed Jassim Ali, for six NBA championships. Although the picture above shows the 58 year old Kobe Bryant celebrating after scoring a bucket against his own team, due to an ongoing bout with Alzheimers, his coach stated, he just enjoyed Kobe showing that old school fire, that still burns inside. The Los Angeles Lakers had already built a comfortable 18 point lead, prior to Kobe being put in the game, during the final 37 seconds, of the fourth quarter. Kobe fired off 5 shots in that time and 2 of them were at the wrong basket. Lakers Coach Dwight Howard stated he just wanted to let the elderly Kobe get in the game, once things were in hand.

Like Mike ... if he could be like Mike

:oldlol:

Seriously though, he said he would retire at the end of his contract ... which make him what 36?

Another 4 years on top of that? These german knee surgeries, new health remedies, and the potential of acquiring LeBron or another big name free agent in pursuit of more rings must be mighty enticing.

FlipFlopBe

I remember at the start of his career he said he was going to retire from the NBA around 30 and then go play in Italian leagues.

Well unless he plans on taking a pay reduction of 50% that should never happen.

That'll be 23 years in the league. Damn how many players have actually done that? I'm guessing that list is short.

I take all these comments from Kobe with a grain of salt. Things change over time. He might get to the end of his contract and be done with the game. He might end up wanting to play until he's ancient no one wants him anymore. I personally see him playing through his current contract plus one more season. We'll see.

just 50% lol?

They'll need a coach that can actually have a rotation that doesn't allow him to play 40 minutes a night for that to happen

I think that every player has this wish. Its hardest on the star guards because when the reflexes slow and next fast high flyer slams on them a few times, the ego takes a hard blow. Kobe probably can't think of himself as a 18 ppg scorer, that gets dunked on and outscored a lot. Its part of what elevated him to greatness.

If he's healthy, he can easily put up close to 20/5/5 at 40. Playing to 40 is not such a distant dream like it was in the past and in 6 years there will be more than a few 40 year olds still playing.

Great point! Look at MJ, Stockton, Malone, and Kareem for example. All played at 40 and were STILL at minimum top 10 players at their respective positions in the L. I realize with Kobe its more about the miles he's played cause he came in right from high school. But still evolution and technology dictates that if guys can stay healthy that they can play into their 40's very well if they choose too in hoops, baseball, certain positions in football, etc. Kobe if he wants can BUILD a resume that can be the GOAT if he can play very well until 40.

Let's say Kobe becomes the all time leading scorer and get 7-8 rings along with his shit load of All NBA, All Defensive, All Star, Gold Medals, MVP, etc. His resume would be in my book the most impressive of all time of damn close to it. Jordan's mystique is so strong that NOBODY may eclipse as GOAT. But if anybody can do it, its Kobe playing until 40 and padding his resume. And Lebron before its all said and done (especially given his size, versatility, and skills) may have an even better shot than Kobe to pass MJ. As great as Kobe is, he didn't redefine his position TOTALLY the way Lebron did.

It would be great to see how long he can play at a elite level. What he is doing right now is amazing enough. Assuming he doesn't get a terrible injury, he may surpass Kareem in points.

LongLiveTheKing

False he's not playing until 40 at least not in the NBA.
