Could have beaten a top 3 team who have been playing well and are pretty oiled for a good year...Lakers had no offensive structure and nearly won on pure talent.

Talent? If they had any talent on the bench, they'd have won this game by 10...
You know it's bad when Lakers fans are celebrating "almost" winning :lol

What? Im still celebrating Kobes 5th ring...what u talking about???
'nearly' doesnt count in this league. hey might as well celebrate Pauk's and his thread on LBJ getting 'NEARLY' a triple double every night right

I just don't get it. Do Lakers fans have a built-in defense mechanism that makes them blurt out "Kobe! 5 rings!" whenever anyone says something they don't like or agree with?

Lets judge them two months from now when they have a coach and their starting point guard playing.
Howard & Gasol both were pretty terrible tonight offensively. Both turned the ball over too much and weren't aggressive or effective scoring the ball. It was a really bad game for LA but their defense kept them in the game.
If they play to their potential, they are the best team in this league. Right now? Kobe is the only one doing a damn out there. Howard has looked bad offensively lately. Had a hot start but then seems very mediocre. He beat Duncan almost every time yet hesitates to go strong for the dunk and ends up turning the ball over.
Ah, forgettable night.

 Spurs averaged 20 turnovers the past three games. They are anything BUT a well oiled machine right now. The fact that they only had six turnovers tonight tells us the Lakers aren't really that good defensively. Spurs had a bad shooting night and still beat LA on their own court.

He did but he probably shouldn't have with his back flaring up before the game. He was bricking wide open shots tonight. Pretty obvious he needs a week off at least.

Agree, Spurs are flawed themselves. Manu's what 1st or 2nd game back? Not saying Lakers didn't play hard.... and compete very well but neither team played well so do NOT say SA played like a well oiled machine.

Bro, they've come into the season with essentially the same players, same system, and such.
Lakers have been thrown together....Had Mike fu*kin' Brown....
Had various injuries in and out of training camp. Lost Steve Nash early on. Didnt even establish much of an on court chemistry.
Fire Mike Brown.
Lost Steve Blake......
And are now playing with a stand in coach, with no real system in place, and no point guard.

This. No Nash or back up pg, no coach, too many turnovers, still pretty bad overall bench(in my opinion) and missed free throw oppurtunities. Tough tough tough ****in loss but with all things considered with the circumstances we have going up against a team like San Antonio, I think this game only proves a (hopefully) healthy Lakers gonna be a dangerous well oiled machine come Grammy time.

spurs are old tho, not well oiled......
5 rings isn't unprecedented and doesn't mean he could throw away his 6th... and with their talent they should be easily getting this...
i don't get it tho - the spurs have been running the same pick and rolls for years shouldn't it be easy for teams with laker talent to adjust?

Spurs were missing wide open shots or shots that were barely contested. Them coming of two data rest and a stomach bug that hit the entire while in the road is a reason why.
I honestly wasn't impressed by the Lakers, at all.

Dude, it doesnt matter how much talent you have.
Take a look at that Dallas team when they took out the Heat that had far more talent in their corner. Better teams just win.
Right now the Lakers are all over the place in terms of their chemistry and their talent. So yeah...for LA fans, this was promising for the simple fact that when shit does click, it should be clearer skies.

For a storied franchise like the Lakers that is a contender pretty much every year, it's not discussion worthy. If this was the Raptors or Wizards MAYBE then.

Ginobili was 1-8 and bricking wide open shots - what part of the Lakers defense aggravated his back before the game? He was a game time decision tonight.
A couple Spurs are recovering from flu including Parker(missed the last game) and Jackson.
The Spurs averaged 20 turnovers in each of their last three games. Not a well-oiled machine, at all. The only player that has been playing well all season is Duncan and the big Lakers frontcourt didn't really effect him at all. Parker actually performed well above his season stats(which tells us how awful of year he's having).
If you want to see a GOOD defensive performance against the Spurs, the Clippers game a week ago was a hell of a lot more impressive.

I'm happy we looked as good as we did all things considered. Storied franchise or not Lakers were 1-4 a short while ago and looking shitty, now we won 2 out of 3 and was close to beating an elite team without our two best point guards and no real coach and just generally looking a lot better.
If you don't consider it discussion worthy don't join the discussion... You want to tell Laker fans about what to expect from Phil Jackson and what type of games that are or are not discussion worthy... Your screen name says clippersfan so don't try and be the judge of what Laker fans can or cannot talk about or how they should be feeling.

He's right about Kobe's low clutch percentage, though. He makes a lot of clutch shots but he shoots more than any other player. A volume shooter in that regard.
Despite Kobe having a good season from an offensive standpoint, he's been horrid defensively. His lazy defense is the reason Danny Green was able to hit the game winner tonight(Pop designed the play knowing Kobe would do just that)
