View Full Version : Kevin Durant First Career Triple-Double

We get threads for triple-double watches, so why not a thread for an actual triple-double?
Durant get's his first career triple-double tonight with 25 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists. Had just 2 turnovers and 2 steals, too.
He's flirted with one a couple of times this year but finally got over the hump tonight.

I'm not sure how anyone could label Durant as a volume shooter when he's only shooting 16 times a game.
Congrats! Its his career high in assists to with 10.

I figured that Durant would have a better shot of getting a triple double with blocks or steals than his passing...

Durant is going to do so much more damage to teams if he keeps us this more all around 25/10/5 type stuff vs the normal 30/6/2 or w/e. I love what we are seeing out of him.

I don't either, but that's exactly what pauk said in the "LeBron and Durant are the two best players in the league" thread. Of course he threw in his "I love watching Durant play and he's a great player" disclaimer, then proceeded to call him a great volume shooter.
inb4 pauk gives Durant an underhanded compliment to prop up LeBron.

Your praise for Durant is "he's a great volume shooter" or "he's a great shooter/scorer." No, of course he's not been as good of an all-around player in his career as LeBron, and probably never will be; but you don't lead a team to the WCF and NBA Finals at 22 and 23 years old if all you are is a "great volume shooter" which is EXACTLY what you called him not one or two days ago.
There's more to his game and it's forever evolving. He's still just 24 years old, but you're seeing the type of progression towards being a great all-around player that you want to see from a potential all-time great. He's averaging a career low 16.5 FGA/game this year, has shooting percentages of .511/.469/.885, and his TS% is 60%+ right now. He's starting to cutback on his turnovers, too, and his passing is night and day better than it's ever been in his career. I don't know how or why it got so much better all of a sudden, but it has. Not only is he averaging 5 APG this year, but he has another 2-3 great passes that lead to another easy pass for someone to a teammate for a wide-open shot; or, "hockey assist" if you will.
It won't always be pretty this year because it's his first season for taking an all-around approach to the game, but he is turning into a well-rounded player, instead of being just a "great volume scorer."
You think it's praise, and it may be unintentional, but it reeks of fakeness.

Well yea, but i wouldnt put Durant at Lebrons level as he does a bit more overall... but i love em both, Lebron gives me that allround bball pleasure and Durant gives that high vol shooting pleasure
You may not think or realize, but that's a backhanded compliment. First off, he's not even a "volume shooter/scorer." He shot 50% from the field last year and is scoring even more efficiently this year. His defense has been better (still not great but it's been solid and borderline great at times), his playmaking/passing is leaps-and-bounds better, and he's turning into a very good well-rounded player.
And no, I'm not saying he's on LeBron's level, but he's more than what you're willing (or unwilling) to give him credit for.

Why do I feel like people aren't making a big deal out of Durant's rebounding ability?
Your praise for Durant is "he's a great volume shooter" or "he's a great shooter/scorer."
Yes? Isnt he? :confusedshrug:
No, of course he's not been as good of an all-around player in his career as LeBron, and probably never will be; but you don't lead a team to the WCF and NBA Finals at 22 and 23 years old if all you are is a "great volume shooter" which is EXACTLY what you called him not one or two days ago.
Great volume shooter is an observation in context to what i mostly like about him in a post comparing him to Lebron and that is what he mostly is... a shooter/scorer, compared to Lebron... did you find other posts aswell where i said he "is a great player and the 2nd best player in the NBA"?
There's more to his game and it's forever evolving.
Absolutely... but he is what he is at this given moment.. he is trying though and that is very good..
He's still just 24 years old, but you're seeing the type of progression towards being a great all-around player that you want to see from a potential all-time great. He's averaging a career low 16.5 FGA/game this year, has shooting percentages of .511/.469/.885, and his TS% is 60%+ right now. Yep, he is improving and has become more unselfish.
It won't always be pretty this year because it's his first season for taking an all-around approach to the game, but he is turning into a well-rounded player
I agree he is turning into a wellrounded player, but unlike you i had that thought before he got his first career triple double and first time reaching 10 assists.......
instead of being just a "great volume scorer."
Durant is a strict scorer, "great volume scorer" as you call it, a great shooter... that is working at becoming a wellrounded player....
You think it's praise, and it may be unintentional, but it reeks of fakeness.
...and yet you have still failed to explain that "fakeness"...
All in all you have been nothing but very immature & ignorant...
and thats not the first (or maybe the last) time i will throw those words upon yourself... and could be the culprit to your behaviour towards me anyways... but i dont care, you are bringing it upon yourself... its only you who is acting like a douchebag...

So you call other people fake and insult them because they refuse to take Durants genitals all the way in? Is that it? I had nothing but praise for Durant, i said i like him for his shooting/scoring... and i consider him more than that, but compared to Lebron? He is actually more one dimensional compared to Lebron... he is "well-rounded" and an "allround player" only compared to someone else... or what the heck, you can call him whatever you want... but i consider somebody a "great allround player" only according to required level of offense & defense and other intangibles on both ends.... you may call him whatever you want... for me Durant is what i see he is, a strict scorer who is trying to improve his allround game...

I agree he is turning into a wellrounded player, but unlike you i had that thought before he got his first career triple double and first time reaching 10 assists.......
You've got a really weird way of showing it, then, since I've never seen you call him anything other than a "great volume shooter" or "great scorer" or "a 7-foot Reggie Miller" as Heavincent pointed out.
And please, don't insult me. OKC is my favorite team and Durant is my favorite player. I've watched 100+ Thunder games the last two seasons (since I got League Pass for the first time last season). I'm well aware that he's becoming a good all-around player; and yes, I'm aware of his flaws (turnovers and inconsistent defense) but I also know that since the 2010-2011 season he's been more than just a great scorer.
Durant is a strict scorer, "great volume scorer" as you call it, a great shooter... that is working at becoming a wellrounded player....
A volume scorer is someone that gets a lot of points on a lot of FGA, and shoots so-so or bad percentage. Durant is not a "volume" scorer. He's an efficient scorer. It's rare to see a player who shoots as many perimeter shots as he does (which he's not doing as much of at this point in his career either) shoot and score so efficiently, but he's does.
...and yet you have still failed to explain that "fakeness"...
All in all you have been nothing but very immature & ignorant...
Look, I know English isn't your first language, so I understand you may not get how what some of you say about Durant comes off as "fake" or being nothing more than a back-handed compliment, but that's what is feels like every time you call him a "great volume scorer" or "great shooter" while seemingly ignoring the other aspects of his game that make him a great player.
and thats not the first (or maybe the last) time i will throw those words upon yourself... and could be the culprit to your behaviour towards me anyways... but i dont care, you are bringing it upon yourself... its only you who is acting like a douchebag...
How am I acting like a douche bag? It seems like anytime the "LeBron vs. Durant" subject is brought up on ISH, you try to be complimentary of Durant, but it comes off as something else.
In some form, you start off by saying "I like Durant as a player and love watching him play", which is fine; but then you'll say something like "but, LeBron is a great all-around player and Durant is a great scorer/shooter." It may not even be your intention for that to come off the way it does, but it comes off as you saying "Yeah, Durant's good, but he's basically just a scorer." If you are aware of Durant's all-around game, then this is the first I'm hearing of it.
I apologize for my douchiness and for being a jerk, but every time you call Durant a "great shooter" or "great scorer" it really grinds on my nerves because it comes off as a back-handed compliment instead of a compliment.

Why do I feel like people aren't making a big deal out of Durant's rebounding ability?
Because I'm not sure he's a better rebounder than he was last year or the year before. Yes, his rebounding numbers are up, but it has more to do with Durant hanging back and grabbing an extra two or three rebounds per game (in instances where there's a group of 2-3 other OKC players around the rim and no offensive players in the area) that he normally just let someone else get while he ran the floor. I don't know if I'd necessarily call it "stat-padding" because he's using those opportunities to bring the ball up the floor and initiate the offense.

Westbrook was pretty damn good tonight as well.
Yeah, he deserves some attention as well. 30 points, 7 assists, 5 steals, 2 rebounds, 1 turnover, and he was 12/22 from the floor.
Martin had a good game, too with 23 points and 5 assists, and I think he was something like 5/7 from three.
The offense has been on fire the last two games. Granted it was against the Hornets and Warriors, so that's not exactly something to hang your hat on. But they had 90+ points through three quarters in both games and shot the lights out from three.

This was a little too easy.. lol
Lebron will be doing what he always does against this one dimensional sceletor, humiliate him offensively and defensively....
Durant is basically a 7 foot Danny Granger.. he is just a shooter/volume shooter
not just some random 6'11" shooting sceletor that wins a team accomplishment because he simply had the best supporting cast....
Durant Playoffs:
27-7-4 @ 50% FG while playing pathetic defense...
hahahaha.... this one dimensional sceletor? hell no...
just a ONE DIMENSIONAL SCORING SHOOTER........ THATS ALL HE DOES........ WHEN HE CANT HIT HIS SHOTS, HOW DOES HE IMPACT THE GAME???????? TELL ME?

pauk's MO is to throw out a compliment, then degrade durant and bring up lebron. that way he can, 'b-b-but, i totally acknowledged how good durant is'. i don't understand why..there's not really any threads stating durant is better than lebron but pauk seems insecure that durant is considered the second best player in the league by many. so he just ends up saying stupid shit like 7 foot reggie miller, ray allen, danny granger, kevin martin, etc. first of all, i was huge on granger but then he just stopped improving his game overall and that was years ago. if you think KD makes the same impact as granger, i have no words. honestly, why not just call him a 7 foot jr smith?
if he feels KD isn't the second best player in the league, that's fine too. he just has this thing where he indirectly criticizes him more than any other top 5 player.
and apparently if you quote him, that isn't fair game. if you feel it's out of context, at least say so. otherwise, it's hard to ignore this pattern and it's just becoming more apparent.

But i will answer anyways, first of all i know i always didnt had great words for Durant, but those words were actually honest & factual compared to Lebron (which most of those posts were made of in context/response as i remember) with a hint of retaliation to the overrating of Durant that was going on 1-2-3+ years ago... most of those posts you presented were old... many things have changed since then with my view on Durant and Durants improvement itself, but even then i ALWAYS liked him for what he was, i just didnt like the overrating that was going, anything i said there was true at that specific time compared to Lebron (and me being a man of facts, i can show you) when Durant used to have "Durant is better than Lebron, Durant will kill Lebron, Durant is the best player in NBA" threads and so on...
Durant compared to Lebron 1-2-3 years ago:
1. Durant was more and more one dimensional the further back in time we get and even though he has improved overall/allround he is still one dimensional compared to Lebron, its not as bad as it was before.. but yes... props to him for trying to improve & improving, but i love the guys game as it is right now and as it was back then, he reminds me of my favorite player of all time which is Reggie Miller... the "sceletor" frame, the shooting... and even if Reggie is my favorite player of all time, i would say compared to the likes of Jordan & Lebron he is one ridicilously one dimensional "sceletor"....
2. Durant is a "sceletor".. yea... that certainly came out as an insult, but is intended more like a joke compared to the difference in size compared to Lebron, if it makes you feel any better this is what i sometimes call my favorite player of all time (Reggie Miller) when compared to... most.... especially if i had to compare his physique to Lebron... When that comment was made Durant was even skinnier than today... he certainly is still somewhat of a "sceletor" compared to Lebron... :) But dont worry, i dont use that word anymore...
3. Lebron due to being such a better and more impactful player who used to more or less expose Durant the further back in time we go, more often than not... indeed... (once again, i can show you) and even to this day, Lebron will most likely come out on top on the success column more often than not... it certainly has been a fact, especially last year... im sure you remember....
4. Yes, back in the days i thought Durant was much of a Danny Granger clone and he still reminds me of him in terms of style/skills/talent and so on, but is certainly better today (i am talking about the prime 26 ppg Danny Granger, he certainly didnt recieve the type of hype/overrated statements Durant did by dropping the same numbers anyways, but thats another topic)... that certainly i think was not a bad assessment at the time, but was yet again made in response during the "era" where Durant i felt was getting overrated when compared to Lebron... This assessment is kindof different today aswell... he certainly is better than Danny Granger ever was...
5. Durant and pathetic defense... compared to Lebron, the further back in time we go the more factual it is... yep.. absolutely... that assessment has changed aswell as Durant has improved on that end.... but STILL, compared to Lebron today in that department, i dont know how to put it in safe words... but.. no, he aint a great defender compared to Lebron today...
6. About Durant not impacting the game when his shot is not falling...... oh yes, that is more and more true the further back in time we go... and even to this day compared to Lebron that still remains the same, but ofcourse to a lesser extent...
Today, i love Durant.. much has been said in the past... but time has changed and i love his game (love his shooting/scoring) and i dont think he should try hard to change that and i dont think he can change that anyways and become a Lebron type of allround player, he said last year afterall "I want to be more like Lebron, i want to get triple doubles" - this is what Durant said after NBA finals during an interview, it explains somewhat why he seeks to work with Lebron during the ofseason alot... i think he will become better, but i dont think he is a great allround player yet compared to Lebron, but is improving...
Now, CHAZZY.... do you want me to give you some quotes on your point of view on Lebron and everything else you have been saying about him? You are a bad example on this forum of a "unbiased, reasonable, logical, factual" poster with your Kobetardism and Lebron cynicism you have displayed during your time here.. so this is very funny coming from you.... I wont and i dont care... i will leave that stupid behaviour to someone else...
Now please stop wasting my time with this gibberish, i will next time only respond if you want to reasonably, logically and factually discuss basketball & share basketball knowledge... this is what i am here for...

I watched the first two OKC games of the season and was under the impression Durant was trying to compensate the lack of Harden's playmaking.

That is a bit over 2 years now and i guess something like 15 posts a day which certainly doesnt mean sitting day & night here..... i think you posting only 255 posts in 4-5 years is much more hilarious.... but with the quality of this post you just made i can understand why you never had anything to bring...
Another thread derailing post...

Durant is going to do so much more damage to teams if he keeps us this more all around 25/10/5 type stuff vs the normal 30/6/2 or w/e. I love what we are seeing out of him.
Me too. This is what I always hoped of him or thought he had the potential to play like so its nice to him rebounding the ball consistently and passing more. I hope he can keep it up for the season.

Yeah, LeBron is just light years ahead of Durant defensively. That's why Durant put up 31/6/2/1/1 on 55%/39%/84% on him in the finals.
Lock down!!!
LeBron was lucky he had scrubs like Battier, Miller and Chalmers having miracle games every night and putting up 20+ while Durant's 6MOTY never actually made it to any of the games and Westbrick was building a castle.
Don't really understand why people say Durant is one-dimensional. Do people realize that Durant actually averaged more rebounds then Lebron last year? He did in 2010 as well. He's also averaged more blocks the past few seasons as well.
The only statistic where there's been a huge difference between the two has been assists. People are acting like Durant's been just a better version of Jamal Crawford.

@Chazzy's gibberish.
First of all, have no idea how you do it or have the time to do it, but very impressive! I guess a confident troll like you will take it to any level huh?
How are you going to say that, and then follow it up with that insecure essay? :lol Most of those quotes are from one or two threads from a couple months ago, so all of your excuses about it being many years ago are moot.

What the hell did I just read from pauk? I skim through it and the only words I see are "context" and "lebron".

More to come IMO.
He is facilitating more and getting more boards on the defensive end and the scoring is automatic.

Stop giving attencion to trolls people. This is exactly what they want. Instead let's laud the best scorer in the league (by far) and who is becoming a very good all around player also

Let me guess, people will continue to rip on pauk, but totally ignore this stupid post.
Posters seem to only want to hold other posters accountable when it suits them...which kinda weakens their own credibility. lol

its pretty warranted

Stupid post?
Did Durant not accumulate those averages throughout the finals?
Did Battier, Chalmers, and Miller not each have a 20+ point game in the finals?
How did Harden play in the finals?
How many shots did Westbrick take (and miss)?
Fact is, Durant was scoring at will in the finals. 31 ppg on 55% is about as good as it gets from a perimeter player. If LeBron was as great defensively as he's made out to be on this forum, Durant doesn't come close to these numbers.
I know you LeBron d!ckriders like to make him out as some DPOY candidate, but unfortunately pretty chase-down blocks aren't all there is to defense.

"Lebron was lucky scrubs were having miracle games..."
Yep, you didn't say ANYTHING stupid at all. Saying Lebron was lucky to win due to miracle games by scrubs is more stupid than saying Durant is a taller Reggie Miller.
I'm not a fan of Lebron more than any other star player....I'm a fan of logic.

It's a fact, though. If those role players don't step up and have those big games, the outcome of the series would likely be very different. If Thabo, Perkins, and Fisher had games of 20+, Bronzy is still ringless.

A large majority of that difference came as a direct result of Lebron's superior ability to make plays for his teammates. Durant wasn't setting his teammates up in the same way Lebron was.
