With four victories in their last five games, the Charlotte Bobcats have nearly matched their win total from 2011-12.
They can already surpass last season's home win total on Wednesday night when the struggling Toronto Raptors try to avoid a fourth consecutive road loss in this series.
Since opening 1-3, the Bobcats have lost just once, 94-87 to Memphis on Saturday when they opened a four-game homestand.
Charlotte (5-4) surely wasn't expected to challenge for a playoff spot after finishing 7-59 last season and with the worst winning percentage at league history at .106, but there's no telling how successful rookie coach Mike Dunlap's team can be if it continues to play stout defense and win close games.
After ranking 27th last season with 100.9 points allowed per game, the Bobcats are holding teams to 99.0. They've limited their last five opponents to 98 or fewer -- the team's longest such stretch since an eight-game run Oct. 30-Nov. 13, 2010 -- after rallying from 11 down in the fourth quarter of Monday's 102-98 victory over Milwaukee.
The Bobcats improved to 4-2 at home and 4-0 in games decided by four or fewer points.
"They compete every night and they're not going to roll over," said Bucks swingman Mike Dunleavy. "When you do that in this league you're going to win more than seven games. They're going to blow that mark away this year obviously. They're headed in the right direction."
With a victory on Wednesday, the Bobcats will move past last season's home win total. Charlotte lost its last 14 there in 2011-12 following a 107-103 victory over the Raptors on March 17.
Exactly one month earlier, the Bobcats snapped a 16-game skid with a 98-91 victory at Toronto.
The Raptors (3-8) arrive in Charlotte following Tuesday's 106-98 loss at Philadelphia. Point guard Kyle Lowry had 13 points, seven rebounds, seven assists off the bench after missing six games with a foot injury, but Toronto was outscored 33-18 in the fourth quarter to fall to 1-5 on the road.
"We had control of the game and we've got to make basketball plays," said coach Dwane Casey, whose team is off to its worst 11-game start since opening 2-9 two years ago.
The Raptors have to get better on the defensive end. They're yielding 100.4 points per game -- 101.5 on the road -- and opponents are shooting 40.0 percent from 3-point range after the 76ers hit 9 in 24 attempts.
Bobcats guards Kemba Walker and Ramon Sessions haven't been a big threat from beyond the arc, hitting a combined 9 for 44, but they're averaging 20.2 and 17.2 points, respectively, during the 4-1 run.
Rookie Michael Kidd-Gilchrist is scoring 13.8 points per game with 7.8 rebounds during this stretch, while Byron Mullens is adding 13.0 points and a team-best 10.6 boards per game.
DeMar DeRozan and Andrea Bargnani totaled 46 points on Tuesday when the Raptors opened a stretch of 10 of 12 on the road. The two combined for 50 points in a 92-87 home win April 3 that ended a six-game slide in this series.
All of Toronto's victories have come on the second night of back-to-backs. The Raptors dropped 16 of 20 such games last season.

If the Raps lose this one, I'm not even going to lie...I might not watch them again this season. They find the most agonizing and frustrating ways to lose then once in a while show just how talented they are. It's not like we have a roster that screams 3-8 or lottery bound, they are just disappointing in every way shape and form. We don't even need the refs biased officiating to do us in most games we just do it our selves.

I don't understand why he'd follow his shot so aggressively when he already picked up an early foul. He knows his fouls (and stupid coaching) is the reason he doesn't play.
On another note - Lowry is a boss. Not only is he a foot shorter than Bargnani with more RPG, but he just gave Bargnani a pick...a 6 footer giving a 7 footer a pick? What kind of team are we?

Because Ross is not as "NBA ready" as we were told and Casey has a thing against rookies apparently? Plus he is a 2 not a 3 and Id rather not slide DeMar to the 3 permanently.

1) Landry Fields and Alan Anderson are out for extended period of time due to injuries. McGuire is our 3rd string SF.
2) Ross is more of 2 guards backing up DeRozan, but because Casey his horrible at making rotations, Ross hardly ever sees playing time and lets the veterans get more of those minutes. Which includes playing Lowry and Calderon playing the guard spot at the same time.
At least he's getting playing time now.

A lot of the problems would be solved because Bargnani being traded would mean that Colangelo is no longer a part of the Raptors. I guess the fact that he's not that good of a player doesn't hurt either.

Bryan Colangelo is the main problem with the Raptors. The time and money committed to an average player like Bargnani doesn't help our feelings toward him as a player though.

I've always maintained that this is a management problem with the Raptors. It's been this way since the inception of the Raptors, really.
Isiah Thomas handling with Damon Stoudemire and Marcus Camby.
Glen Grunwald and Rob Babcock unable to build around Vince Carter and changed so many coaches around him.
Bryan Colangelo unable to build the right pieces with Chris Bosh and now Bargnani/Lowry/Val, etc...

I don't necessarily know if that is true, but my biggest fear with Bargs is that he'll get traded. Most of the Rap fans here outside of myself and a few others will celebrate, then Bargs grows into being an All-Star level player. He has that kind of potential.
The thing that I do not like about our offense is that we aren't trying different looks for Bargs. We should be moving one of our biggest mismatches all around the floor.

First of all, I don't "hate" anybody on this team. Very rarely do I even "hate" on a Raptor that leaves a team.
Second, Lowry is very easily the best player on this team. Watch the games. Most valuable piece ? Maybe. Who knows what ceiling is Jonas going to give us, he's very much an instinct player right now, but I can see a lot improvements in his game. And tonight, Val his hitting mid-range jumpers... just think about what else he can possibly do once on offense when his offensive game is polished.
As for Bargnani, he is what he is now. I doubt there's anything else he can possibly give you from his game. I don't "hate" him, he just has to produce a lot more for his billing. I have high standards for him and if he can't get to that level or under performs or even worse... if he doesn't give enough effort on a night to night basis, how can you not put a lot of blame on him ? He is the franchise player, is he not ? Were not comparing him to Landry Fields here.

I think I hate Matt Devlin more than Leo. Didn't think that would be possible but I'll take Leo's smugness over Matt's cartoonish attempts at being a fun homer.
How I grade them:
Jack Armstrong = 3/10
Leo Rautins = 1/10
Matt Devlin = 0.5/10
Purge these guys from the organization too.

Yeah, but at this point, with this roster, Raptors games will end up like this very often. Refs do affect their results.

Yeah, I guess... but that they have to lean so heavily on the refs in the outcome of their games says a whole lot.
Take care of your own business and let the rest take care of itself, I say.
Charlotte has a brutal collection of talent. They bad need MKG to pan out and strike gold in the upcoming draft. That is a mess of a roster. At least it seems like their ownership understands that they need to be bad first because they can have any hope of long-term success.
Well, Gordan's contract comes off the books after next season. I like Kemba, MGK, Biyombo, and Mullens a lot. Henderson is a nice piece as well. Taylor looks like he's going to be a solid role player. Sessions is solid, and still young. I think they have a nice mix of vets, and youngin's. I like they're roster a lot more than ours. I'll say that much.
They look like they'll be competitive all year.

Mullens is brutal. He's more of a brainless chucker than Bargnani. Kemba looks better than I thought he would be but I still don't see him being anything more than a solid rotation player in the NBA. Much like Derozan. MKG is still very young and raw. Seems like a smart player but needs to develop some actual skills.

I liked Chuck early on but towards the end he was becoming what Devlin is now. Nothing more than a silly cartoon.

Mullen's is average 9 boards a game. His FG% is awful, but at least he rebounds.
I do think Charlotte is overachieving, and they'll come back down to earth at some point. That being said, they're no longer that laughing stock of the league.
As both rosters stand as is, Charlotte has a way bigger upside than us. Never thought I'd say that after last season.

I don't know about that. It's close.
They don't have anyone near as good as Lowry. And personally, there isn't a single player on Charlotte I'd take for the long-run over Valanciunas. Charlotte should have much better management with Rich Cho as long as their ownership stays patient and lets him do a proper rebuild.

Although we need to greatly improve on closing out games (understatement), all the Raptors need is for the refs to make the calls they should be making.
If we continue to lose out on key free throws like today, it will start to feel like playing with a handicap. :banghead: Either that or I'm just really butthurt

i'd take MKG, kemba, and henderson long term over valanciunas and maybe biyombo as well. lowry's a pretty good player but he's not getting any better and he's only a little bit better than kemba right now and kemba has tons of potential

You sir are absolutely insane.
I could see an argument being made for MKG's potential over Val. Kemba? No. Henderson?? Are you out of your mind?
