I am a Laker fan. I am moreso a basketball fan. It's not like this guy has fallen off the face of the earth in his abilities. In the not so distant past, he absolutely dominated in the Olympics. It is because the team took advantage of him and utilized him. His biggest problem is that he is the only player on the Lakers that compromises and tries to be a part of the team. He is infinitely more skilled than Dwight on the block, yet he goes to the outside to try and clear space for Howard. It's ridiculous. He is probably the best offensive option on the Lakers. If they ran the offense through him (while Nash isn't around), and let Kobe become a jump shooter the team would do much better. For his own sake, I hope he goes to another team and puts up 20, 10, 2 bpg with 50% on a playoff team.

I just disagree with that. Howard gets less shots than Gasol, but he dominates more than him plus he isn't 100%. Kobe was also playing great until tonight. Howard should get more shots. MWP is getting around the same shots as Howard, which should not happen IMO. Howard should get way more shots.

Gasol isn't being utilized properly, I agree. He is skilled in the post, so put him in the post. I understand if he is giving Howard some space and preparing for the jump shot, but it might be better to have Gasol come off the bench and you'll have another good post scorer and a good scoring option to come off the bench (since the bench kind'a sucks).

Gasol is sucking defensively though.

So they should go away from the scoring leader to run the offense through a guy who routinely can't get double digits? :confusedshrug:

If it wasn't for Gasol, the Lakers wouldn't won game 7 against Celtics in 2010,

He was huge in the 4th.

I don't think he ever was/or ever will be a statistical beast ala Kevin Love. However, when you actually watch basketball him (and his brother) understand how to play a team game.

He has one of the best back to the basket games. I'm not saying he's better than Kobe, or even better than Dwight. I'm just saying that the offense running through him would lead to less turnovers, higher efficiency and an overall more successful game. This is because he routinely makes the best decisions. He knows when to pass, when to attack and who to pass to.

A lot of the Laker offense right now is running some nonsense, then eventually Kobe just hawking up a shot. Luckily, they were going on for a while. Now though he has some tired legs and we saw what happened tonight. There is no flow to the game.

It's the reason Kobe is a 4th quarter beast. In the 4th quarter the screws are tightened and you need somebody that has that selfish gene. However, for the first 3 quarter you need someone that is gonna play a team game and get the offense running smoothly. Right now they have Dwight in the post and there is nothing great happening from it. Not really his fault..just unless he has great 3 pt shooters around him he isn't really that great of a 1 on 1 back to the basket player. He would be better served letting Pau go to work and then cleaning up the misses.

What do i kno though. Just saying what seems obvious I guess.

one of the few big man to have where being a jump shooting team won't be truly detrimental to your offense because he is going to establish some type of rebounding position already.

defensive end though. big wings and a center who has lateral quickness makes up all the differences even if a team is trying to play small ball.

how interchangeable would a prime Gasol and Rashweed Wallace on the Pistons.

quite debatable.

such as a healthy Bynum+Sheed+Odom+Kobe running the triangle.

maybe Ariza would have worked out just fine for the Lakers

because he does intelligent coasting on defense

If he thinks he's in no position to actually manage a stop he doesn't try and risk getting a fault

most NBA players do this except the give it all out one gear only players

Like I said, stifled by Kobe. He was there all along, but Kobe ball (plus coaches that bought into Kobe ball) prevented him from playing up to his potential.

Kobe was injured last season, and Pau was probably unmotivated by the rest of the team, but he still looked better than Kobe this season. The other 2 seasons Kobe was mostly fine and Pau was forced to take a backseat.

So then explain the 2013 playoffs and 2014 season.

Pau was forced to take a backseat throughout all of 2013 and then the play was through Dwight in the playoffs (can't play through Pau if you hope to re-sign Dwight). In 2014 Pau was likely not very motivated, but that said, he was mostly just under-appreciated by his fans. This season his is only scoring 1 more point and grabbing 1.5 more rebounds than last season.

Lakers could use that 25+m they paid Kobe to sign 2-3 above average NBA players to help the team.

Kobe stans like to act Lakers has been bad without Kobe but they forgot Kobe actually taking up majority of cap space. Use the money on someone else who play team basketball. Lakers could still be good

Kobe has been a negative impact through out his career! Even when he's positive, he was replaceable with other super wing star players.

If u were to get out a chart and grade a PF's skill level across the board in ALL AREAS, Pau is CLEARLY a top 6 PF of ALL TIME! I'm not saying GOAT or peak value wise. I'm talking in terms of total all around skill level on both sides of the rock. I really think Pau is up there with guys like Duncan, KG, and McHale in that sense. And like Duncan, Pau brings a center's size and post skillset to the PF position. I think Duncan, McHale, and Pau are the best PF's of all time in terms of post arsenal on the block.

Funny how Kobe already proved he could win if they replaced Shaq. I thought Kobe couldnt win without Shaq.

Kobe won rings with Pau who isnt a superstar. How come Shaq needed superstar guards, Kobe and Wade to win titles. How come he couldnt win with 3 all stars in 98, Eddie JOnes, Nick Van Exel, and 19 year old bench player Kobe.

Pau is more skilled than Duncan and McHale. He is mentally weak though which is not a good trait. Imagine if Pau was a poker faced assassin like Duncan. Pau would be a top 3 PF all time.

Most players only get 3-7 prime years, Kobe did nothing without Shaq/Pau in 3 of his prime years!
