View Full Version : Barkley is Outclassing Reggie Miller as an Analyst

Charles Barkley was impressive as an analyst in the previous games he's done and I find him even more impressive today. In fact I find him more impressive than Reggie Miller, who has done this for years. Miller brings very little to the table, has a habit of stating the obvious while not providing much interesting analysis. Barkley is easily the more adept analyst and can bring levity to the broadcast as well, something the wooden Miller cannot do.

They are both great. Miller is more serious, which you need next to Charles.

I don't find him to be more serious exactly, he is more simplistic in his approach and is unable to bring levity to the telecast. Barkley will go more in depth with his analysis while miller has the fast food approach to color commentary.

i would love for tnt to let barkley, reggie, and harlan call games during the play offs. Overall, theyre a better version of abc's former big 3 (van gundy, jackson, breen) and im a huge van gundy supporter.

ABC has done little right since they acquired the rights to broadcast NBA games in the 02-03 season. The 2003 NBA finals was an absolute embarrassment because of how awful ABC was.

More fast food analysis from Miller just moments ago regarding Jordan, saying Jordan was all athleticism before his first retirement and added the post game following his return from baseball. A simple look back at those playoff series in the first three peat would show him that this is far from the truth, he was constantly posting up against the Suns in the finals, as well as against the Lakers two years prior. Miller should be better than this by now.

Barkley seems to be more in tune with the game than Miller, he's a bit more attentive. Miller is unfortunately a cookie cutter analyst.

It's very interesting to see Barkley grow in this role and show his talents, while Miller is effectively mailing it in.

Love how Barkley's "first of alls" very rarely have a "second of all." Guess he ate it

Reggie has marbles in his mouth and regularly butchers the English language. Also his weird shouting before commercials is super awkward. I can't believe he's still announcing. He was horrible when he first started and he's still cringe worthy. He's only good when his partners give him shit.

Miller sucks as an analyst, period.
He was great tonight. he made the game more interesting than the normal Reggie/Harlan game. But i dont think he should be doing it every week. it would get stale. IF he does one game every month, i'd be happy with that

Sounds to me like you're in love with Charles Barkley because he's in love with LeHype James. Tonights on air performance by Sir Charles proves my point. David Sterns role in ESPN/TNT. By having play by play sports casters manipulate peoples point of view. I've never heard more ass kissing from a sportscaster / former basketball player in my life. It was the most PATHETIC performance by a TNT sports annalists EVER. I would say Barkley has LeHypes Balls to his chin... :lol

nailed it.
Chuck is just Chuck, and that's why he has such a massive following.
Be real, and good things will happen.

i like both... barkley is just so charismatic it doesnt matter what hes doing hes still likeable and entertaining.
tnt just needs to get rid of shaq... damn hes annoying. miller is fine IMO, and i respect his opinion on the game.

Reggie generally sucks, but he worked pretty decent on a 3 guy team. Having a fellow former player that doesn't just let him say whatever the hell he wants helped.

Kenny would be the perfect sidekick for Chuck, as he is in the studios. I think he wouldn't be too bad on his own either, he has pretty good insight to the game. The problem is that the halftime-show would suck without one of the two carrying the show with Shaq.

Barkley is just a loveable goof. Every country has them. They can say and do the dumbest things and people will still love them.
Like when Charles said that the Heat are not a good three point shooting team, and Reggie corrected him and said they are the best in the NBA this season, to which Charles said yeah they are the best but they still don

Barkley's is a good sidekick I guess. He's really pretty bad at analyzing and commentating on the games though. He just makes up for it with his humor.

I hated this combo. Mark jackson with his "Hand down, man down" crap, JVG always griping and bitching about bullshit, and Mike Breen sounding like he has something up his ass. Keep it. And take Kevin harlan with them.

I actually like Miller's commentary. Their styles are just different. Barkley is the quirky type of commentator like the Dicky V's, Lee Corso's of the world.
Barkley was also fortunate enough to be anchored alongside kenny the jet, who's style works in a synchronous/symbiotic way with his.

:biggums:
I heard him repeat "The Spurs & the Bulls play the hardest" like every quarter.
And he flip flops a lot on his opinions.

I agree.
Mike Breen and JVG are my favorites but Chuck needs to do more games.
He knows the game and is capable of making great observations about how the game is being played and is absolutely hilarious.
C-Webb can fill in when needed on Inside and maybe Shaq could have frequent inexplicable mic issues so he would actually be bearable.

You're comparing him to Dickie V? That's ridiculous. Vitale spends the entire game screaming like an idiot no matter the circumstance and provides no worthwhile analysis. Barkley has numerous good points throughout the telecast, much better than Vitale.

So you don't like Miller or Dickie V? You think Barkley is a better analyst than Dickie V? Dude is a legend. He is like 90 years old now.
I especially love Dickie V's articles for ESPN because it became clear to me he's just talking shit and someone else is writing it down. I was like man this dude even puts baby when he's writing?
Stop being so ****ing serious, man. There is very little in this world, especially in the sports world, that you should get so riled up over.

Barkley talks out of his ass. He's as good analyst as that yappy old guy in a park, on the bench. Just happens he were around the basketball more, but his intelligence level is just around the same.:hammerhead:
