just like tnt's chris webber said

gasol ( 7 foot ) is a passing center

howard ( 6-10 ) is a cutting power forward

put gasol on the low block

put howard on the other side. let gasol go to work and if they choose to double. itel be an easy lob dunk instead of a kick out jumper

problem solved

what's good griff

You realize positional designations in basketball don't truly matter, right? They're just artificial constructs to make the game easier to understand. What you can and can't do on the court is a lot more important than whether you're listed at forward or center.

they do matter when its an offense geared towards the center on the low block strong side and the power forward on the high post weak side. which is basically what the lakers do every single time. and its why we never see gasol with his back to the basket down low and always shooting jumpers. and its also why we see howard settle for these running hooks because he has no idea how to create for others

Agreed, let the guy who has no jump shot stand in the corner to space the floor instead of the guy who can makes jump shots.

you obviously missed the point... you don't want bigs shooting jumpers. you want them inside. so if pau's on the block. he can't settle for long dumb shots

we all know howard won't camp out there because he's smart enough to realise he's more valuable as a cutter and lob specialist

pau can't cut or jump. this is why he camps outside

we want high percentage shots for our bigs. left handed hooks by dwight and college three's by gasol arnt getting it done

pau backing down guys with an actual decent hook shot and being able to pass is a much better option as a post player

and dwight as the clean up guy on the weak side makes more sense

but pau plays like a PF and dwight plays like a C

The problem is nobody will respect Howard's midrange game so bringing help and recovering will be easy for opposing defenses. Dwight has also never shown the ability to work (pass, shoot, drive) from the high post like a Duncan, KG or Gasol.

Dwight Howard is a center. Pau Gasol is a PF.

There is no argument for Howard not being a center. None. Move on.

Howard is a Center.
Gasol can play both PF and Center.

But the way he plays PF doesn't fit Dwight, who needs a PF with 3 point range.

funny... remember when Gasol got traded to the Lakers... The Lakers world was like "omg we need Bynum to play C, so Gasol can move to his natural position... the PF"

but Gasol has played the best ball of his career when he starts at Center with Lamar at PF...

Op is a moron

i'm just repeating what webber and kenny said on tnt

it makes sense. paus a better decision maker. howards a better roll man to the basket and clean up guy

and didn't you see last night? pau got a ton of assists by being the first big to catch the ball and howard barely has any initial plays called for him. howards points mostly came off assists from kobe or pau or put backs

what i said was basically what they ran last night and it worked

so how am i a moron for predicting the success of the lakers?

I believe Gasol is much more effective when he is the "Center". He and Bynum never really fit together and the issue persists with Dwight. I don't think the answer is to switch their positions though. I think Gasol needs to be the backup Center and they should make Jamison the starting PF. Then Gasol could play his game and we wouldn't have to trade him. It would also help solve our bench problems. Lastly, it would help get Jamison going.

Although Pau is technically taller, I would bet that Dwight reach/length is greater.

does it really matter how we define their respective positions? i have always agreed that gasol's best asset to the team is his passing, and we can use dwight as ibaka on steroids.

dwight is a good player but he can't seem to take advantage of his position on the offense. furthermore, we'vr turned gasol into a less accurate channon frye

Your correct in assuming the height to the top of their head is deceptive - however Dwight's reach still isn't "greater" - it is virtually the same though;

Pau armspan 7-5

Dwight's armspan 7-4.5

And based on the height of their shoulders (which looks very comparable) their reach is probably very similar as well.

The real difference maker is Dwights athleticism.
