One may be sitting up straighter then the other at any given point as well (again could be advantage to either). The point is, this is a asinine way to judge someones height.

They look like the same height to me. You must be taking into account Nash's pompadour... and even then its a major stretch. Not to mention as you get older you lost a bit of height in Leno. And yet, their the same height even with the camera angle in favor of Nash.

:facepalm I have measurements for both players:

Kobe (height w/o shoes measured in his mid 20's)
6-4.75 w/o shoes with a 6-11 wingspan
176lb rookie, currently ~205lbs

West (As a Senior at WVU) - I just got his height info from an interview with an author of one of West's books
6-2.75 w/o shoes with a 6-9 wingspan
175lb rookie, 188lbs for his last 8 seasons

West has high shoulders and a large upper torso so along side people with the right angle he can appear bigger than his height alone would suggest. He himself claims he is "over 6-4" when asked about it in interviews but I'm guessing he's just saying that because he sees modern NBA players "listed" at 6-4 walking around at his height and he assumes he must be just as tall. 6-4 is probably what West would be listed at today - 2 inches less than Kobe's 6-6 list height. Which happens to be their actual difference in height.

As people age and especially if they gain a significant amount of weight they can shrink in their overall height.

Shaq at the end of his career is on record in interviews that he is 6-11.5 w/o shoes. He measured 7-0.88" w/o shoes as a rookie. Wilt measured 7-1.06" w/o shoes as a rookie and a few years after he retired he was measured at 7-0.5" w/o shoes. I have no reason to believe any of those measurements are not accurate. Both had gained 50+ lbs and aged 15+ years and had knee surgery. Barkley is an honest guy, brutally honest at times in an entertaining way but he is always a genuinely honest guy, in interview with Chick Hearn on youtube he specifies he is about 6-4 and 3/4 w/o shoes when Chick questions his 6-6 list height. which lines up quite well with his 6-4 and 5/8ths measurement for 1992. If you've seen Chuck Recently, he could be shorter than that, but that doesn't mean he wasn't just under 6-5 in his playing days.
