Sick of hearing all these people around here thinking that 6'6" is some kind of standard for shooting guard height. Yes guys like Kobe, Jordan, Vince, T-Mac were all 6'6" shooting guards but they are a more of an exception than the norm. They are tall shooting guards. Not every team in the NBA can have a 6'6" freakishly coordinated and athletic SG.

People on ISH make it sound like a 6'3/6'4 SG is a totally worthless player with "no height". D-Wade and Eric Gordon are 6'3, OJ Mayo 6'4. Tony Allen 6'2 or something. All are great SG's to have especially if you don't have a star swingman.

So stop posting crap about "undersized" shooting guards being worthless in this league.

I haven't heard this sentiment. NBA heights are all bs anyways.

6'4 3/4 without shoes. And we all know NBA height is measured with shoes on. So yeah he's closer to 6'6".

A lot of guys on here automatically dismiss guys like Mayo and Ellis as "too short" for the SG position. That they are somehow non-impact players strictly because of height.

height can definitely be overrated at times. it's that wingspan that can really make a player elite.

I don't know who you've been talking to who said 6'6" is norm height for SGs, but they clearly don't have a clue.

Feel free to ignore them. 6'2" is an undersized SG

Ellis is kinda short for a SG... Mayo not so much.

NBA.com height is incorrect, he has said he is 6'4 WITH shoes on. I think someone knows their own height.

He's lying. I saw that he was measured at something like 6'4 3/4 with no shoes, pre-draft. He's grown. Kobe is clearly taller than Michael. Early on, he was even listed at 6'7 by some people. He knows his own height and he knows how to lie. He's at least 6'6 with shoes.

Wade is like 6'3 but has around a 9'6 wingspan. Kind of helpful.

idk why is Durant still 6'9 when he is obviously taller? because they do measurements off positions.

The elite tend to be taller. Not sure why that is. There are exceptions to the rule, like everything.

But if you look at the past several drafts, most SGs are in the 6-4 range now. It may or may not have been undersized back in the day. Right now? It's average.

Weird because PGs seem to be getting taller. PG and SG are almost the same height.

Why would he lie? :wtf:I suppose I'd have to see or watch quotes or lines where Kobe truly admitted as such so I could get a feel for context, but I feel as though a lot of people tend to throw different heights out there at one point or another, especially if their barefoot height is not squarely on an exact inch.

For instance, I'm 6'2'' and 3/4 inches tall. At different times, I've claimed 6'2'', 6'3'', and 6'4'', often for no good reason. If people ask me how tall I am after they see me dunk, sometimes I used to claim 6'2'' (the rounded down version of my height) to make my ability seem more impressive. On the other hand, if I throw a pair of shoes on, I'm suddenly about 6'3'' and 3/4, where rounding up to 6'4'' would make NBA and mathematical sense. In truth, when people ask, 90 times out of 100 I'll rightfully claim 6'3''.

The hang up on NBA height always confounds me (not directing that at you, brandon). It just seems almost any NBA success story will at some point include, "And he was actually closer to 6'5'' than he was 6'7'', so that's even more impressive." In truth, since everyone is listed in the NBA by shoe height and are thus shorter than listed, all those "actually" stories seem moot.

Yeah, if he's really 6'4.75" without shoes, that means he's essentially 6'5" without shoes and 6'6"+ in shoes.

Legit 6'6 kobe, MJ, Reggie, Tmac is even bigger can shoot over ppl, less easier to shut down, and age well, well not if u ****ed up like Tmac. Tweeners are always more inconsistent and falls off quick.

Wingspan goes a long way, too. I was measured at 6'3.75" without shoes and was listed at 6'5"; but I also have a 6'8" (and change) wingspan and people just assumed I was taller, like 6'6"ish (which isn't even close to true) because due to my length I look taller than I really am.

The "undersized" SG's that are 6'3" or 6'4" can get away with it if they're long. I think it can be a bit of a detriment if they don't have much length, though. Although that doesn't necessarily matter in my opinion, either.

Damn. Im 6'1 and have a 6'4 wingspan and i thought that was long for my height. 6'8 is a good wingspan for nba players. But i do have high shoulders so my standing reach is like 8'2.

I think Brandon is saying that Kobe claims to be 6'4 with shoes on...that's just a shocking bold-face lie if Kobe wants any self-respecting mammal to believe that. I wouldn't be surprised if Kobe was closer to 6'7 with shoes.

But on Wade...he's 6'3 and 3/4 or whatever, with or without shoes?

But Wade is a bit closer to the camera. All in all, you can clearly see that Kobe is about 2 inches taller than Wade. Kobe may or may not be 6'6" but I'm pretty sure he's closer to that than 6'4" with shoes on.

In the following picture, even with Kobe's head slightly tilted forward, he has a clear advantage over Kidd and Wade who are listed at 6'4". D-Will is slightly short of 6'3" and Paul at like 6' as listed. So I see no point at trying to justify that Kobe is 6'4" unless the NBA is 2 inches off from the other players' height measurements.

Not so much with height as it is with size.

Gordon and Wade are strong enough to match up against any SG in the league.

Players like Monta are undersized.

Joe Johnson should play SF IMO. Not sure why he doesn't.

btw, I don't think Kobe is 6'4. I've seen him up close before and he seems much taller than I am (6'0); not just 4 inches.

6-3 6-4 shooting guards and 6-7 6-8 power forwards have always been prevalent in the NBA.

It's just another myth that NBA marketing makes up, trying to make the players seem bigger than they really are.

height is overrated in the NBA. the only real size that matters is your wingspan.

Kobe is technically taller than Wade, but I'd be pretty shocked if Kobe is as long as Wade is. It doesn't matter whatsoever where your head ends. It's where your hands reach that matters.

And almost every single one of those 6'3" and 6'4" SG's and 6'7" and 6'8" PF's are still better than almost every SG and PF in Euroleague.

Avery Bradley is like 6'1.5 but his wingspan is like 6'9 similar to rondo who is 6'1 solid.

Wingspan is key to how successful a player can be throughout a game.

Jason Maxiell really is not that great an athlete and the guys wingspan and iq allows him to rebound and block shots at very good rate being 6'6 PF.

Kobe is taller than 6'4" in shoes. I'm around 6'4" in shoes, and I've stood next to Kobe... and he had a couple inches on me, easily.

You don't need to be 6'6" to play SG, but if you don't have that length, you need to be good at using your body/weight, have a quick-release shot, or both.

Almost every player in the NBA(especially the perimeter players) have their listed height boosted by at least 1-2 inches from barefoot height.
