View Full Version : James Harden is the best SG in the league

StateOfMind12
12-27-2012, 01:31 AM
I said it.

I doubted him and thought he was going to be exposed in Houston, but he is a superstar in this league and the best SG in the game.

Nobody at SG can touch this guy's ability. His elite and super efficient scoring ability, his passing ability and great decision making, his rebounding, his defense needs work but it's not the worst among top SGs, Kobe's D is easily worse.

Beardsanity combines as the best back-court in the NBA.

Harden will also win an MVP one day, a la Steve Nash in 2005.

James Harden has his team at 16-12 with a relatively weak supporting cast
Kobe has his team at 14-15 with a team of 6 HOFers.

We all know who is better now...

Nah I say kobe is still the best but harden is most definitely an elite SG is approaching into the elite tier of players. Lets see if he can maintain this kind of play for the rest of the season. He has had some truely awful games.

The rockets got a steal. They got a superstar caliber player for only kevin martin, jeremy lamb, and Toronto's pick.

Playing alot better than I expected, but not necessarily that (he's a good player), he's shooting better than I expected. I still think the playoffs is the ultimate test - if the Rockets get there, and they're on pace to, I'll be even more impressed. I think the instrumental piece to that team has been Asik, though. Doesn't seem flashy, yet a hard worker. On a side note, I never realized until the pic in this post how ****ed up Harden's grill is. I guess he's got enough money to fix them, but he's also got enough money to where it wouldn't matter if he doesn't. Great spot to be in.

Don't think he's better than Bryant, but Harden is a beast.

26/5/5/2 on 60% TS- incredible. Has a bunch of scrubs at 16-12. Anchoring the #6 offense in the league.

Assuming Kobe comes back to Earth, Harden will probably be #1 by the end of the season.

If the OP wasn't such a troll about it Harden could get a proper appreciation thread. He's really playing well and I wish he played up to his standards in the finals to give us a better series. Kmart is a nice replacement to fill his scoring void but his presence will be missed in the playoffs.

DatAsh
12-27-2012, 03:33 AM
It's between him and Kobe this season. Looking at the records and stats -

Harden
26/5/5 on 60%

Kobe
30/5/5 on 59%

Harden
Leading a relatively weak supporting cast to 16-12

Kobe
Leading an almost ridiculously stacked supporting cast to 14-15

- Harden appears to be the clear winner. However, watching the games still leaves me with the sense that Kobe is the overall better player, despite the superior supporting cast and worse overall record. The Laker's struggles have little to do with Kobe's level of play this season. In fact, he's played great. Having watched every Laker game this season, and virtually every Rockets game, I still have to go with Kobe at this point, though I will say that Harden does have him beat on paper.

12-27-2012, 03:38 AM
I don't understand how you can say they're "ridiculously stacked" when Nash has been out 25 games, Pau has missed 7 games and generally struggled, and they've had one of the worst benches in the game. Plus three different head coaches...

For the vast majority of the season it's essentially been Kobe/Howard and a bunch of role-players.

That was part of the "on paper" argument, and it's the reason I made that distinction in the first place. Like I said, the Laker's struggles so far have very little to do with Kobe's play.

This isn't last year though, they actually have a fairly decent bench with Metta, Jamison, and Hill. All three of those guys could be good starters on a number of teams. I'm not sure D'Antoni's properly figured out how to use his bench yet, but that's another matter.

What standard? Nash and Dwight and Pau can only do so much when Kobe is holding the ball for most of the game. Dont expect any of them to meet their averages of the past. They will start to get towards their old averages if Kobe decides to share the ball. Until then, expect more of Pau's 13-8. Dwight's 16-14. And Nash getting close to 10 assists.

He's amazing. One of the most dangerous offensive players with the ball in his hands - defenders must be scared to death of having to guard him.

Charges to the hoop with both power, agility, and a soft touch, draws fouls and makes his free throws, shoots from outside effortlessly... He's incredibly difficult to stop.

That said, he hasn't done enough yet to call him the best SG in the league, especially with Kobe playing some of his best basketball.

However, the SG position in the NBA was starting to get weak, so the one thing you can say is that he's proven that there's the potential to pick up the slack once Kobe and Wade have dropped off for good.

Dude everyone of your alts agrees with you, just be happy with that. But don't expect to convince anyone outside that "special" cicrcle about your nonsense..

Harden's dominant play has changed everybody's mind. Lord Harden forgives all and loves all.

But I believed in him the entire time so I should be the first to enter the Lord's castle.

Cant be a "lord" without the hardware.

The "Your right" one, when SOM12 didn't say anything other than "He already is" caught me rather strange...and then in the other thread, the guy changed his avatar and said something...and I just had a moment. That was frightening.

I was being sarcastic when I said your right cuz this kid is so ****ing stupid and refuses to even think about changing his opinion. I said Kobe is playing amazing and is still the best SG in the league. Harden is 2 for me.

Statistically wise, Kobe has actually been more efficient than Harden whether in FG% or PER. And on more shots too!

Nevertheless I'm not ready to make Harden the 2nd best SG in the league. He's might just be a proven franchise player now. But right now I'm still taking Wade over Harden.

Durant is closer to lebron than harden is to Kobe.

Its safe to assume harden will one day be the best SG in the L tho.

James Harden can't score against a good set half court defense. So no, not even close to being the best SG.

He may not be the best SG.
But for sure he's better than Kobe and Wade.
