Yea, Tmac's 2003 season was better than anything Kobe ever did. Kobe's best season was probably 2003 and Tmac was better that season.

Anyone else agree?

Pretty even, I guess

T-Mac: 32.1 ppg on 46% (39% from 3), 6.5 rpg, 5.5 apg, 1.7 spg

Kobe: 30.0 ppg on 45% (38% from 3), 6.9 rpg, 5.9 apg, 2.2 spg

They each scored 38 in both games. Crazy how Kobe is still an elite player in the NBA all these years later. I wonder if the same would happen for T-Mac if he got 20+ FGAs a game..

He didn't get to play with Shaq and conserve energy and take plays off. He had to do everything. Kobe did the same thing in 2006 and 2007 when his team was shit.

McGrady's 2003 season isn't as good as Kobe's 2003 season.

He was terrific, but leading your teams to wins is part of playing well. McGrady did a lot of playing well by himself...the way he played in Houston was a lot better than how he played in Orlando. His 2003 season, for all the team success it may have lacked, did stand out and is his best season...but he was a better player when he was healthy in Houston...and his first and third years there were great.

But he was never a good as Bryant.

We could argue that Kobe, with NO ONE else to defer to would have put up BIGGER stats than TMac.

I agree that Tracey McGrady's peak wasn't as high as Kobe, but he was part of that amazing 22-game winning streak in 2007. Yao missed the last 10 games of that streak.

For what it's worth, the Rockets were 126-70 with McGrady, but a mortal 11-39 without him. Moreover, Coach Adelman claimed that McGrady was the best passer he ever saw. Link (http://20secondtimeout.blogspot.com/2008/03/alstons-three-pointers-launch-rockets.html)

Since Adelman played against Pistol Maravich, coached against Magic and Isiah, and coached Clyde Drexler, his statement has some depth.

Peak T-mac is pretty close, if not greater than.

It'd be a hard thing though to say since Kobe has 5 rings and 15 yrs of excellence.

Meanwhile, T-mac had 3 great individual seasons and that's about it.

Why would he have to choose between the two? If his career panned out better, it's possible that he could have had both of those things at the same time.

2002-03 is arguable, but he definitely had a better season than Kobe in 2004-05.

The point is that he arguably did have one season better than Kobe, but he still ended his career with no ring.

If T-Mac had the choice, would he give up the success of that season for a good (but not great) season and get a ring?

Back spasms will do that to you, especially if it's a recurring thing.

I've had to play with back pain and it's hard, it really ****s with you mentally and physically.

Physically, it's painful trying to get lower than your defender to drive by them. Conversely, it's hard to get in a solid, low defensive stance without a lot of pain/discomfort.

Mentally, I would want to avoid contact at all cost while driving in whereas I would absorb it and finish normally. If I do get hit, it's much harder for me to finish while absorbing contact because of the pain.

03-15-2013, 03:08 PM
There were 2-3 seasons when they seemed to be even and you could build a case for T-Mac. I was between 2002-2005. Before and after that, Kobe has always been the better player of the two, and 2006-2008 Kobe is way better than any othr form of Kobe. (Or T-Mac for that matter.) Offensively speaking, this year's Kobe is still better than pre 2006 Kobe, it's just the defense he is lacking these days.
