rondo could be the better player and the best point guard in the league by far but he doesn't want to score points. and scoring points is what his team needs the most.

Bill Simmons is kind of a tool at times, but he recently suggested that this is due to the fact that Rondo's avoiding contact due to fear of going to the line

does anyone watch enough Cs games to get a read on that theory?

I don't watch enough Celtics games to confirm, but I will say that Rondo dominates the ball, plays 38 mpg, and only takes 3 FT's per game. Either he's not looking to score, trying to avoid contact... or getting no love from the refs.

Combination of not looking to score and avoiding contact really. I really don't think he has the mindset to go hard to the basket and hope for a foul. When he drives it seems like he looks to pass as soon as any kind of help comes, when he could often just toss himself in there and get to the lines.

Right now the Celtics need scoring from Rondo, but he appears disinterested. Time to sacrifice some boards and handoffs for what his team needs most.

Do you guys think his mentality hurting the team? I'm not baiting, just trying to figure out what's going on with this team...pre-season I had them as a clear top 2 seed in conference, and they're about to fall back to .500.

CP3... Rondo's iffy jumpshooting and free throw % are too big to overlook. In the last 2 minutes of games that severely limits your playmaking ability if you're considered "the man". While you could argue CP3's height hurts him in the last 2 minutes of games, I'd feel much more confident in CP3 making something happen than Rondo. He's also too arrogant for his own good.

I would like to him look for his shot more, but honestly I'm not too worried about that. They'll have a streak of 20 games or so where they play at a 70% clip and they'll finish 3-5th in the conference. I genuinely think the entire team just plays to get through the regular season. People love to write off the Celtics every year, but I can guarantee come playoff time they'll be fine and Rondo will put up some kind of 18-12-7 line.

It does and it's my main knock on him. He's not assertive enough, even in the playoffs when I think he picks up the intensity and becomes much more assertive - he could still be more assertive.

Especially with KG at center that lane opens up far too much for him to be averaging 12 points a game.

lmao this isn't even a question.

Rondo is below CP3 as a player (but not by much).

But CP3 isn't just how well he plays. It's about how well he leads.

He took the worst franchise in the league and did everything for them. Recruited the players, worked the media, gave them belief in themselves, led them on and off the court.

Chris Paul is the greatest leader in the league and that counts for far more than who is the better passer or has the better handle.

Rondo, though I like him, is nowhere near the leader and, in fact, has been suggested to be a loner type

2010. KG was coming off a knee surgery and had his worst season as a Celtic and Pierce was mediocre throughout the entire Playoff run. Rondo was easily the teams best player at that point, especially since he was playing out of his mind that postseason.

Rondo is one of the most overrated players ever. Most of the time teams don't even play defense on him and his top ppg average in his career is 13.7. He cant lead one of the most stacked teams in the league to above .500. Once Garnett and Pierce retire, Boston will be one of the worst teams with Rondo as their leader.

Wouldn't you consider 16ft-3pt midrange? anyhow, Rondo has taken 1 less shot from that range than CP3. Free throws Rondo has always bee awful at, but he's at a career high .647 this year.

PER has little to do with shooting. My reply was aimed at Sharmer, CP3 is the better player.

I don't know why you guys think Rondo is great, but he pads his assists. Like he is all up ahead on the other end all alone for an easy layup yet passes to a guy behind for a contested layup. That shit's messed up right there. Those are just empty stats.

I'll definitely want a guy who can actually take over games when it matters. CP3 all the way.

2012 Playoffs
CP3: 17.6 PPG, 7.9 APG, 5.1 RPG, 2.7 SPG, 42.7% FG
Rondo: 17.3 PPG, 11.9 APG, 6.7 RPG, 2.4 SPG, 46.8% FG

Rondo played 19 games to CP3's 11 games and faced teams with appreciably better defense, including the Miami Heat.

Also consider Rondo is a better defender in the playoffs.

CP3 is clearly one of the four most impactful/valuable players of this season (LeBron, Durant, Melo), but again: in the playoffs Rondo takes it to another level he doesn't care to do in the regular season because he's a lazy ****.

The Celtics three other guards on the team, Courtney Lee, Jason Terry, and Leandro Barbosa have been sucking ass this entire season. Bigtime...

Rondo was arguably the best player on the Celtics 2010 run. The Celtics were 6 mins away from winning the title that year. However, not to give him moral win, but when you doubt that Rondo can be the best player on a winning team while CP3 has never been in that position, I can't see your point as being logical.
